Re: MLB 14 The Show Official Trade Discussion Thread
And the Upton trade I would go Herrera straight up. Because the Braves have a need at 2nd now that they traded LaStella. And the spreadsheet values Upton at a low B. And I think Herrera fits that.Comment

Well let him nickel & dime the CPU away.. LOL. I am surprise the CPU took the deal. If he is only controlling one team. I was able to trade Evan and J. Schafer to LAD for Either in my Braves franchise.Comment

Re: MLB 14 The Show Official Trade Discussion Thread
I just saw something on a website regarding the Dodgers and trading Greinke. Not going to go into details but I was thinking, I am going to start up a franchise soon using rosters that are up to date. And put where I project the rest of the big FA's to sign so that way they are not just sitting in FA.
I am going to use the Red Sox and will probably look to acquire Greinke. Would this be a decent package: Cecchini, Marrero, and 2 of Matt Barnes, Allen Webster, Trey Ball, Edwin Escobar, Eduardo Rodriguez and Brian Johnson; and a lowel level prospect?
Cecchini would give the Dodgers a third baseman for the future, Marrero could be the SS. And you can't have enough pitching. The 2 pitchers I would be most giving to give up are Brian Johnson and Escobar.Comment

Re: MLB 14 The Show Official Trade Discussion Thread
I think that you could certainly put together a fair package for Greinke, but I dont't think it addresses what LAD is trying to do--win now and simultaneously get cheaper. I haven't looked into researching it too much eg Greinke's current salary to determine how likely it is that he opts out into a market consisting of top shelf arms like Price, Zimmerman, Cueto, or eve Latos who is a notch lower in quality but two notches better in cost to value. I might question the realism aspect of it. The winter meetings might give us more clarity or if you are patient, WTNY did a pretty good trade between the white and red sox for Sale that I thought was reasonable but I'd probably have thrown in another of the red sox's many 2nd tier SP prospect arms. It is in his dynasty link at the bottom of his posts.Comment

Royals franchise
Need LF because I traded Alex Gordon last offseason
Want Matt Holliday from STL
As part of a package at least 1 of the following pitchers would be involved in the trade
Yordano Ventura
Kyle Zimmer
Brandon Finnegan
Jacob DeGrom (acquired from Mets in trade)
Miguel Almonte
Thoughts or suggestions?Comment

But I would do this for Sale and Phegley: Vazquez, Rodriguez, Barnes and Sean Coyle. I only want Phegley back because there are no catchers on the open market that the Red Sox would go after besides bringing Ross. But I would be open to taking either of the other 2 just to use until Swihart is ready in (2 years) a year.
Also could I trade Cespedes, Marrero, Wendell Rijo and Bryce Brentz for Chapman. That gives the there OF with a power bat in Cespedes, Brentz is there just in case Cespedes decides to leave in FA. And they also get back a SS and future 2nd baseman. That would be 3 top 20 prospects and Cespedes or that is even too much.Comment

I don't know what Matt Holliday's stats are but the Royals would probably do something like: DeGrom + Jorge Bonifacio + something else. Even then, I'm not a big fan of that trade. The Royals have plenty of outfield options. I don't know what roster you are using but they have Lane Adams (minor league player of the year in 2013), Jorge Bonifacio and Reymond Fuentes (doesn't exactly have the tools for LF).
I used to follow the Royals pretty extensively and was probably their biggest fan on these boards until this season because of personal reasons that made me severely dislike them.
I've heard that sound 3 times... once was Babe Ruth, the second was Josh Gibson, and the third was Bo Jackson- Buck O'Neil

Problem is none of those minor league outfielders wouldn't fill an immediate power threat in the lineup. Just like real life the Royals are last in the league in HRs and Holliday is 5th in the NL in homers.Last edited by BrendenSox12; 12-04-2014, 09:34 PM.Comment

Royals are built from pitching, speed, defense and overall athleticism. They don't really rely on hitting home runs to score runs. That's just who they are as a team.

I would rather keep Swihart as catchers are really hard to come by, especially ones with even a little power.

Royals will not part with Ventura, Zimmer or Finnegan in any trade whatsoever. The Royals have trouble developing good pitching and these are the most talented pitchers they've had since Zack Greinke. That being said, they're really high on Almonte so I guess DeGrom is the odd man out. DeGrom is a good, solid talent but nothing really special like the others imo.Last edited by rjackson; 12-05-2014, 02:34 PM.Comment

Re: MLB 14 The Show Official Trade Discussion Thread
I would like to hear thoughts on how Texas would react to an offer of Jose Quintana (cost value and productively underrated #2) for Profar. He has lost value due to production and injuries and is now going to spring training to play with Odor and Sardinas for the 2B and utility roles. I know they are down on him but wouldn't want to sell low, either.
I feel like TEX would have to throw in a Martinez and/or Jackson to make it even but am not so sure what the concencus would be so thoughts, please?! fwiw, the CPU employs him as bench and DH against lefties with Odor and Andrus starting. Rosters are current.Comment

Thanks for the response. I think I am underestimating Profar's value in the math, but you are also low on Quintana. You say he is a number 3? He has quietly snuck in 3.7 fWAR and 5.3 fWAR the past two seasons. ERA last year of 3.23 and FIP of 2.81 pitching half his games in a perceived hitters' park. If I just blindly gave you those numbers, you'd say he is a 1 or 2 who could get 20MM AAV as a free agent. But since it is Quintana, you'd be hard presses to say 15MM AAV am i right? Quintana is only paid 5MM a year so he is full of surplus value. That is why he is on the untouchables list with Sale and Abreu. I used 10MM surplus AAV in my math and Profar was 5 MM short in overall value to Quintana straight up. Plus TEX needs pitching. I felt that it was a match but again, it didn't feel right either because they'd be selling low on Profar.Last edited by rjackson; 12-06-2014, 10:24 AM.Comment

Quintana has a career 3.55 FIP which is not #2 material and his HR/FB% last year was one of the luckiest values around. He nearly led the league in not giving up homers on fly balls. He was more hittable last year and struck out a shade more batters, hence the 2.81 FIP, which reacts to less homers, more Ks, and is not sensitive to H/9.
Quintana is good and has a nice amount of surplus value given his salary, but Profar is way more valuable than what you're suggesting.Chicago Cubs | Chicago Bulls | Green Bay Packers | Michigan WolverinesComment
