Well, it lists Altuve as 2 B's, but as an Astros fan (laughable I know, but I live close to HOU), and someone who always uses the Astros for Franchise Mode...I would want just a tad more than that. He's a solid 2B, and recently signed a very cheap extension (something like 4 years/12 million) and isn't a free agent until possibly 2020 (I think 2018/19 are team options).

Altuve to the Padres would be a very good match. Houston needs position players much more than pitching. I'd have to think about it, but Spangenberg would be part of a nice return.

Altuve has never been an above average baseball player. If anything, he's worse less than that. He's 8% worse than league average offensively in his career with pretty bad defense. I wouldn't give very much for him.

Re: MLB 14 The Show Official Trade Discussion Thread

I think what helps Altuve is more the market, or lack of, for his position. There are lots of good-to-really good 2B, but most of these players will not be moved, as quite a few recently signed extensions, play on contending teams, or are young players who teams are looking to develop. The ones of course who could be moved (someone like Utley) are getting up there in age as well, while Altuve is still just 24.

I would take a couple of position players for Altuve, but I couldn't see them just giving him away after an extension and leaving them a hole at 2B. I was thinking something like Spangenberg + Jankowski or Rymer + maybe (and that's not a must) a young arm (bullpen even, not highly rated).

I'm Indians and out of contention. Rangers are 1 game out of first in division and leading wild card by 1 game. What do you think of Masterson for Joey Gallo and either Matt Harrison or Derek Holland (tell me which)? Feel free to throw out any other ideas, but I like Gallo as the prospect to surround the deal on if that's realistic?

I believe it's realistic for the Rangers to part with either Holland or Harrison but not if they're in contention like you said. Gallo could be the centerpiece but if you want a pitcher in return, it'd have to be someone like Robbie Ross/Nik Tepesch

Adding Harvey would definitely be something for Theo and Jed to consider

Particularly at 2B and SS, anyone have any ideas on who these two guys could land?

                Thanks!

Here are some names that you could dig deeper with

                Elvis Andrus
                Jose Altuve
                Everth Cabrera
                Nick Franklin
                Chase Utley
                Jimmy Rollins
                Rickie Weeks
                Brandon Phillips
                Josh Rutledge
                Aaron Hill

Don't know if you'd want to go young with upside or veteran with track record?

^ Piggybacking off of this, I don't know how you'd feel about trading Gardner, but you could execute the Gardner-for-Philips trade that the Yankees apparently rejected in the offseason.

Didi Gregorious is another name, too. Looks like Owings has that SS spot sewn up.

I'm sure the D'backs would be interested in both Pineda and Sanchez so that's a really good call. The one most likely to leave is Gregorius like you mentioned and I said Aaron Hill. Let's also not forget Martin Prado who's able to play 2B but they'd have to be overwhelmed to let him leave.

                      Tor get: Shark, and barney

Cubs get: Stroman Norrisn Tiardo, Nolan and Dj Davis

                        Altuve for:

                        Luebke + Joe Ross/Walker Weickel

                        Corey Spangenberg + Johnny Barbato

                        Corey Spangenberg + Cameron Maybin

Cameron Maybin + Walker Weickel + Stauffer

Anything works for me, just trying to find a good fit.

                        --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Also If I trade for Altuve then that means I have to move Headley so here is a 3 team deal I came up with. Tell me what you think.

Red Sox Receive: Quentin, Venable and Street. (Venable to play CF. Sizemore and Ibanez are both hurt for awhile).

Cardinals Receive: Headley + Tazawa (RP BOS) + Deven Marrero (SS BOS).

Padres Receive: Piscotty (RF STL) + Grichuk (CF STL).

STL and BOS have the best records in both the AL and NL. Venable is probably gonna be starting in RF for the NL all stars and Quentin might be a backup on the all stars if he makes it. Headley is playing good (batting about .290 and on pace for like 24 home runs) but he wont make the all star team.

Don't think you're giving /quite/ enough for Altuve. Luebke/Ty Ross/Erlin + Casey Kelly would be good.

The Red Sox are pillaging everyone here. Merrero and Tazawa for Quentin, Venable AND Street? Also, Padres are getting ripped off a little. Piscotty + Grichuck for Quentin, Street, Venable, Headley doesn't seem right.
