Can someone share some advice on the best way to get a good jump when stealing bases?

I'm playing in RTTS and my guy has a speed rating of 80 and base speed rating of 35 or so. I do manage to steal bases sometimes, but even when I do I lose points because it said I had a bad jump. What's the trick to getting a good jump?

Here's what I'm doing now: I have a one step or in some cases a two step lead. I am also holding the left stick to the left in case the pitcher throws over my guy will automatically dive back to the base. Then I watch the picture closely. As soon as he starts his move to the plate I quickly (flick) the left stick from the left (where I am already holding it) all the way to the right.

My guy takes off for 2nd and is safe a decent amount of the time, but then RTTS says my jump was bad and I net just a few points for the steal. I've also tried the same thing but with holding R1 while the picture waits to make his move so that my guy is leaning right. This doesn't matter - still results in a bad jump every time.

What do I need to do better? Thanks!

I set my guy to 5/5 speed pre-draft so I started out with 90 speed/65 baserunning, but I think this should work regardless as far as getting a good jump:


1. Switch to button baserunning

2. I don't take a lead, but you might want to since your speed and baserunning are lower.

3. Before the pitcher becomes set, click R2 down and then let go. Don't hold it, or tap it. Just a solid click and release. You'll feel a vibration. This is you telling your guy to take off as soon as the pitcher makes his move.

4. Don't do anything. When the pitcher begins his motion your guy will take off and get a great jump. All you gotta do is control the slide (or it will slide automatically if you don't do anything).

5. If the pitcher goes into a pickoff move, just click L1 ASAP. Your guy won't run if the pitcher does a pickoff so you'll know right away if it's a pickoff

If you run a season instead of a franchise, do you not have access to anything lower than AAA, or am I doing something wrong?

Where is the double switch in franchise?
All I can manage to find is straight substitution.

Are you an American league team? If so there is no double switches since pitcher doesn't bat. If you are an NL team when you go to put new pitcher in it will as you if you want to sub, or double switch....pick double switch...put pitcher in the new slot in the batting order and then select a player to hit in pitchers spot

So maybe its different in other modes and maybe this has been talked about already on one of the hundreds of pages about this game so far but can someone tell me what the deal is with Wrigley Field?

- Full Ivy in April, yet the announcer still references an ivy-less wallin April on this game but the ivy is fully mature on the game.
- The manual scoreboard only lists the Cubs game. It doesn't even list any of the other games in the league. wtf
- In day games there are black squares that cover up sections of the OF wall. Looks stupid as ****.
- I dont know if its every stadium but for night games the lighting gets super dark in some areas on the field.

Everything else with the Cubs and Wrigley is pretty good (aside from Junior Lake's face and the Cubs coaching staff being fake people) and I hate to be one that complains but I figured this stuff should be figured out for the ps4 and/or updated at the next patch.

Are you playing a franchise? A reg game the ivy is in....on my Reds franchise I played at Wrigley in april and the wall was brown still. as far as the scoreboard. If you are playing a 30 man control you must sim the other games for the scores to show

You're not doing anything wrong, there are only 40-man rosters in Season Mode.

If you run a season instead of a franchise, do you not have access to anything lower than AAA, or am I doing something wrong?

Thanks so much for the tip. I prefer to use analog running. Can this same R2 technique be used with that?

They probably ran out of time with the ivy stuff. Bcruise mentioned that.

Stadium lighting issues have been known for a while now and Devs are looking to fix it.

Cubs coaches and Managers are fake because they weren't part of the MLBPA, by the cut off date. Same goes for Tigers, Mariners coaches etc.............

Cubs scoreboard issue. Idk what that could be. If you're playing 30 team control you have to sim all the other games first before you play yours.

The black spots on the OF wall during day games........are you sure it isn't shadowing?

Yeah they are not shadows. They are just huge random black squares. Thanks for all the info. Makes sense!

What??? U got a brown wall? Yeah I play an offline franchise with the Cubbies and the ivy is mature. Are u playing ps3?

I doubt it, since Analog running uses the stick. But I'm not very familiar with analog baserunning so I couldn't tell you for sure. Maybe you can tell your guy to steal with the stick before the pitcher becomes set, in the same manner as the R2 button works, you could give it a shot.

Quick question. How do a make a second profile to use to assign to the other 29 teams when i start a franchise/season? My Default profile, along with all other teams shows as "experienced"

Never mind my question above it looks like they trim down the presentation in online franchise I guess it's off-line franchise for me
