Just hit for the cycle with Jose Altuve. He's absolutely crushing the ball for me right now. Hitting .301 right now. I don't know why I ever wanted to trade him anymore lol

Also, Mike Foltynewicz got his first chance at a save. He came in with the bases loaded in a 4-run ball game and forced an easy ground ball to end the game. So far, the transition is a success. Hopefully he can do better than Corey Knebel did in that role.

I am using the O's and am waiting until between the All-Star break and trade deadline to call Bundy up.

What are your impressions of him?

Re: MLB 14 The Show Franchise Progress

No big World Series post. I got destroyed by Oakland. 4-0 sweep, I think I scored three runs. That pitching, man...

That said, I had a fun time building the roster with long-term contracts and keeping the winning core for a few years to come! I am going to begin Spring Training after this post, with posts to come following Opening Day (I'll probably do monthly updates). I ran dangerously close to going over-budget, but a couple contracts will clear in 2016 to ease the burden slightly.

Here is the (expected) Opening Day roster:

            Manager: Ryne Sandberg (4 years)

            Catcher: Welington Castillo
            First Base: Anthony Rizzo
            Second Base: Brian Roberts/Emilio Bonifacio
            Third Base: Javier Baez
            Short Stop: Starlin Castro
            Left Field: Nate Schierholtz
            Center Field: Justin Ruggiano/Emilio Bonifacio
            Right Field: Giancarlo Stanton

Luis Valbuena will come off the bench. Bonifacio will become more of a utility player and pinch runner when necessary, but will see his share of starts. Backup catcher is Eric Haase, a younger fella I picked up in the Rule 5. I plan to call up Kris Bryant late May/early June. Giving him a little more AAA time, just because. That may change if he has an excellent spring training.

If Bryant does have a great spring, I am debating moving Castro to center field full time. It'd be risky, but I don't feel like toying with Baez and his shoddy defense early in his career. Castro has an awesome arm and good range, so it could work.

I also parted ways for David Freese (rent-a-player who had no place with Bryant coming up), and felt like giving Brian Roberts a comeback trail. Ruggiano and Schierholtz also give a veteran presence, and will platoon in the outfield by season's end. I also signed Grady Sizemore, but I don't know if I'll have a place for him after spring.

            Starting Rotation:

            Jake Arrieta
            Travis Wood
            Jason Hammel
            C.J. Wilson
            John Lackey

            Bullpen:

            Chris Rusin (LRP)
            Hector Rondon
            Blake Parker
            James Russell
            Kyuji Fujikawa (SU)
            Edward Mujica (SU)
            Pedro Strop (CL)

I signed John Lackey to add another veteran presence, and a guy who's been there (not to mention clutch in the postseason). Wood, Hammel, and Arrieta were extended for three years after wonderful 2014 seasons, and C.J. Wilson has one year left. He and Lackey will mentor all pitchers.

I traded for Mujica in the offseason, and decided to part ways with Jose Veras (who struggled in the postseason and blew a key save in the World Series) and gave the role to Pedro Strop in what appeared to be a natural succession for him

Alcantara retired due to injury, so that sucks. I do have Almora and Jackson waiting around, though more emphasis will be placed on Almora moving forward.

            Stoked for 2015! Stay tuned!

Re: MLB 14 The Show Franchise Progress

85 games into the season and I'm 60-25. My last game played I was shut down by David Price...He went the distance giving up 1 run and striking out 13...I had no chance. Kuroda fell victim to the gopher ball giving up 4 home runs including a couple of paint scrapers in 5 innings of work. Overall he gave up 6 runs in 5 innings. Not a good start.

As far as my Yanks, i'm way ahead of the competition. 15 games ahead of the Jays... so I won't recap the division standings. As far as my lineup goes about halfway through the season...It's been a hot start followed by a sever cooling down of the bats. There won't be many Yankees in the All-Star game...Maybe 5, but that's not what matters. Winning it all matters.

Here how the bats have fared 85 games though the season

I was looking at stats in my franchise. Ran across this guy Justin Verlander.

                  7-0
                  64.1 IP
                  0.98 ERA
                  7 ER
                  71 SO

The good news is I have a solid 12 weeks for him to cool off before I face him.

Third game of the season in my Red Sox franchise and Peavy throws a gem. No hitter, 9K's, 4BB's. 3-0 win over Baltimore. We're 2-1 to start off the season.

Using dynamic difficulty, and I've seen a lot of posts about no hitters and perfect games, but this is the first I've thrown in all my years of gaming, so I'll take it!

Currently 8-10 with my Yankees, playing every game. Pitching has been very good for the most part, but offense has been terrible. Beltran, Ellsbury and Gardner have been playing at or above expectations. Every other hitter has been mediocre to terrible.

Re: MLB 14 The Show Franchise Progress

Well, one game into May (2015 season), my Astros are 16-12 (just a half game behind the Rangers for the division lead).

Dexter Fowler is having an incredible season at the plate, hitting .389 with 3 HRs and 16 RBIs, and his OBP is .443. Jose Altuve is hitting .298 with 1 HR and 11 RBIs. Jason Castro is hitting .286 with 3 HRs and 17 RBIs. Aramis Ramirez is hitting .269 with 4 HRs and 17 RBIs.

George Springer has the lowest batting average on the team, hitting .206, but he has 6 HRs and 12 RBIs. 2 games ago, he hit 3 HRs in one game.

My starting rotation has been the surprise of the year. Jarred Cosart is 3-0 with a 3.72 ERA. Eddie Butler is 2-3 with a 3.77 ERA. Asher Wojciechski is 3-1 with a 3.34 ERA. Scott Feldman is REALLY struggling right now, though. He is 2-2 with an ERA of 8.07. He walked 5 guys the last time he took the mound.

The biggest surprise on the mound has been Brett Oberholtzer. He's 2-1 with an ERA of 2.18. He's got 26 K's and only 6 walks all year. He's been incredible on the mound so far this season.

Now, with all of that being said, we should be winning the division right now. Heck, we should have at least a 3 game lead in it. I took Corey Knebel in the Rule 5 draft thinking he would man that closer role, but he STRUGGLED. He blew 4 save opportunities, and has a 0-2 record with a 7.56 ERA.

The move that has saved my season so far has been moving Mike Foltynewicz to the closer role. He's converted his first 3 save opportunities. As a starter, he would start off really well, but his low stamina means he lost control quickly and teams would score runs off of him easily.

As a closer, Folty avoids the possibility of his stamina dropping. Hitters can't touch him when all he has to worry about is pitching one inning.

My two weaknesses are shortstop and LF. If I could get some consistent production from those two spots, this team could be looking to climb the contender ladder very soon.

4-2 now, just had my first walk off win. Down 3-0 in the 6th Ortiz and Napoli went deep back to back to make it 3-2. Stayed that way until 2 outs in the 9th, Middlebrooks hit a 2 run HR on a 2-2 count for the walk off win! This was a game after we got 1 hit by the Brewers at Fenway.

Re: MLB 14 The Show Franchise Progress

Right around the quarter mark of my season (25-19). Continue to play some great baseball in May. Adam Jones is now tied for the team lead in RBIs with 31 (Wieters also has 31). JJ Hardy's hit streak was snapped, but he continues to hit the ball hard to center and left field. Manny Machado is finally starting to pull out of his slump too.

So I last left off with Detroit coming to town. Lost game 1 to Max Scherzer (7 IP, 5H, 1ER, 3BB 5Ks) just couldn't put hits together, as I had 7 hits but only 1 run, a Matt Wieters solo shot in the 7th. Ryan Flaherty had 2 errors and was "put on notice." Game 2 I got my first win of the season against Detroit 5-2. It didn't start off all that great as Anabal Sanchez was filthy through the first 4 innings and has a 2-0 lead going into the bottom of the 5th. Ryan Flaherty who had an error that lead to an unearned run, got an change-up low and inside that didn't fall out of the zone, and ripped a 2 run HR to tie the game, THey would chase Sanchez in the 6th with 2 more runs as Steve Pearce jumped a 96 MPH inside fastball to left. Flaherty was sent to AAA after his second 3 error game in a row, Steve Lombardozzi was called up. Took Game 3 again on the long ball as Steve Clevenger and Chris Davis (2 HRs in the series) went deep scoring all of the Oriole runs in a 3-2 victory. For the series the team hit 6 HRs.

Went to Kansas City for a 4 game set, and managed to grab a split winning games two and four; 5-2 and 4-3. Had a 4-2 lead in Game 1 when Zach Britton let 3 runs score in the bottom of the 8th to take the loss 5-4. I felt is was more my fault I knew he was in trouble but didn't bring up an arm from AAA while the rest of the guys took a break. Lost game 3 When I left Ubaldo Jimenez out there to pitch the 7th, he got 2/3rds of the way, but gave up 4 runs and we lost 4-3. Both losses were my own fault for not getting my guys out of there earlier than I did.

Game 4 was a wild affair, it was a tight game all through with it ending 2-2 after 9. Neither team could do much of anything to score runs, or even get guys on base. Wei-Yen Chen pitched 7 great innings allowing 4 hits and 2 runs. Bull pen was equally lights out going 6.1 without giving up a run. In the 14 I managed to score an unearned run, when I took a wide turn on a double with Nelson Cruz and as I was heading back I the cut-off man threw the ball high I turned towards 3rd base and since I was advancing there when the ball went out of play I was given 3rd and home, to score the run. I had saved Tommy Hunter who game in only needing two outs as Britton struck out Dyson for the 1st out. Well Hunter gives up a solo HR to Norichkia Aoki, to tie the game at 3 in the 14th. In the 15th Adam Jones doubles and gets driven in by Chris Davis. This time the pen holds on and we win 4-3 in 15 innings.

Game 1 against the Pirates is why I love this line up. Their starter Brandon Cumpton had a little bit of a funky release that took me a while to pick up and Miguel Gonzalez gave up 3 runs in the bottom of the 1st. Well Cumpton was cruising he has 8Ks in the game, through 4 innings. In the 4th inning I started to figure out his release a bit as Manny Machado hit a triple to left center and Jones brought him home. Well in the 6th inning I really did figure out his release and him, as we scored 4 times including a 2 run HR by Matt Wieters. Team has two triples, two doubles and the HR as we finished the game with 13 hits and 8 runs in a 8-3 win.

One more game against the Pirates, then a quick 4 game home stand against cleveland before a 10 game road trip to Milwaukee, Houston and The Rangers.

Our record of 25-19 has us 2 games behind the Blue Jays (28-19) and a 0.5 game up in the wild card ahead of the Yankees (25-20).

Playing with my home town team the Braves. Very slow out the gate, on the road. 0-6, OUCH!! I thought I had a win but CP Kimbrel blew a 4-2 lead over the Nats. Game 3 of the series a showdown between Teheran vs. Strasburgh, I went up 2-0 with 2R HR by Freeman. They took over with a 2R shot by Zimmerman in btm of the 7th and scored twice in the 8th. Giving them a 5-2 lead. Top of 9th, Heyward led off with a 2B, Freeman drove him home with a 2 bagger of his home. J-UP, Johnson and BJ couldnt get it done. I loss 5-3... Losing is not bad with the Show... Homestand.....up next..
