Re: MLB 14 The Show Franchise Progress

I'm loving the game, as evidence of me being a season and a half through a franchise already with the Phillies.

Summary: I had a fire sale, and traded Lee, Papelbon, Howard, and Utley. In return, I got Jacky Bradley Jr., Garrett Chencinni, Anthony Ranaudo, Alex Reyes, a mid level reliever, and Tyrone Taylor. Not a bad haul, but I'm a long ways off from ever competing.

JBJ, Cenchinni, and basically my whole team are really struggling. I've been debating calling up Franco, but I might as well wait for the Super 2. Going into the trade deadline, I'm debating if I should try and take on an expensive piece to have something for next year, because I don't want to have two 100+ loss seasons on my hands.

Re: MLB 14 The Show Franchise Progress

I just started a fantasy draft franchise with the hybrid roster set with the Padres. I have to say, I am really liking this team.

I had the 6th overall pick. Here is how they look.

      C. Devin Meseraco (71 OVR, C Potential)
      1B. Miguel Cabrera (93, A)
      2B. Jose Altuve (78, B)
      3B. Matt Carpenter (74, B)
      SS. Luis Sardinas (74, A)
      LF. Oscar Tavares (82, A)
      CF. Andrew McCutchen (81, A)
      RF. Yasiel Puig (77, A)

      SP. Julio Teheran (80, A)
      SP. Michael Wacha (79, B)
      SP. John Lackey (78, B)
      SP. Scott Kazmir (74, B)
      SP. Noah Syndergaard (75, A)

      SU. Carlos Martinez (74, B)
      CL. Kelvin Herrera (81, B)

I have a decent bench with Sam Fuld, Charlie Blackmon Chris Johnson and Yangervis Solarte.

I also picked up Jon Gray (72, A, 22 yrs old.) and Archie Bradley (70, A, 21) to develop in the minors.

I love my lineup and knowingly sacrificed some pitching. But hopefully playing in PetCo will help my pitchers out.

I felt the hybrid rosters with affected overall rating drastically changed the draft for better and worse in certain spots. I never should have been able to get McCutchen towards the end of round 2, but also it elevated other guys who normally dropped to the 3rd or 4th rounds like Stanton or Harper.

      What do you guys think?

I'm not kidding, that was my plan once the pitching rosters come out. I love Citizens Bank Park in this game and the Phillies are an old team.

My plan was to trade Howard, Utley, Byrd, Lee and Papelbon to completely rebuild the roster and free up the budget for free agency.

I completely agree. That's one of the main reasons I don't do fantasy draft franchises. It's difficult to fight the temptation of stacking my team with all A potential players.

Re: MLB 14 The Show Franchise Progress

Just wanted to mention a particular two game sequence from my White Sox franchise in May. Was sitting at 10-19 at one point, and am now on a five game winning streak.

Four game home and home set with the Cubs, and we swept the Wrigley chapter in hilarious fashion.

First game was pretty much a typical Jeff Samardzija outing, they scored no ones for him, and we eked out a 2-1 victory (Cubs hit a solo shot in the ninth).

Second game I get word Felipe Paulino hurt himself in warmup, and I have to emergency start a somewhat tired Mitchell Boggs. So I figure, the hell with it, and play my whole bench. Boggs dominates for four, and the bullpen give up two runs late. Travis Wood really held in check on the Cubs' side of things.

Poor ol' Cubs though, in the bottom of the ninth with one out they proceed to load the bases, walk a run home, and then we go on to score four in the inning while they use four pitchers. Travis freaking Flowers hit the double to put us up two. We went on to win 4-2 after the rally. Hilarious. Cubs are now 13 games un .500 at the start of May, and we're 15-19.

Sitting at 72-54 in my first year with the Rays. Just finished a heck of a game with Price on the mound against the Rangers. He went 7 scoreless, allowed just 3 hits and K'd 11 and walked away with a No Decision.

Lost the game in the 11th inning when Shin Soo Choo hit a 2-run HR to walk-off. Still hold a 1 game lead over the Red Sox for top spot in the AL East.

The pitcher spot up next, so I called on Gattis. But my over aggressive mindset I tried to steal 2nd and got threw out. And what do you know, Gattis hit a 431ft solo HR. The Nats brought in the closer Soriano and I lost 2-1.

Not sure where to post this, but this seems like the place.

I'm a big franchise guy, and I'm running a franchise with the Yankees(Favorite team) and Twins(Wanna help build them up). I'm looking to have one more franchise and having trouble deciding on some teams. The teams I was thinking of were:
Rays-Small market, low payroll, opposite of Yankees basically
Angels- Underacheiveing team with lots of talent
Brewers- Interesting team with some good pieces
                    Dodgers- Tons of talent

So what do you guys think? Open to any other suggestions of teams as well, thanks in advance.

Well, I decided with the new Pitch Edit rosters coming out soon that I'm going to go ahead and wait for that roster and then start a new franchise.

One thing I don't like to do is pick teams that are already stacked. I like having something to build up.

Right now, I'm thinking the Rockies give me the best of both worlds. They have 4 very solid guys that can stroke the ball in Blackmon, Tulo, CarGo, and Arenado. And with their weak pitching staff, it gives me something to rebuild.

But at the same time, I really wouldn't mind taking an older team with big name guys and trying to start their rebuilding project... like with the Phillies.

Doing Season Mode with Rangers. I have 9 games left in April and I am 12-7 and 2.0 games back of the AL West leading A's. I have 6 games vs the A's in the next 9. Should be interesting way to close the month.

I restarted my franchise using 30 team and hybrid rosters.. Liking them so far, I've been simming the first 7 innings of games until I get to where I was in my last franchise.. My Red Sox are currently 6-6, just lost to the Yankees in 15 innings... Drew bobbled a ball at short that would have been the third out, and let the runner from third score. Bum.

                                Year: 2015

I'm 12-12 with the Astros and 4th in the AL West

                                Lineup:

RF Robbie Grossman: .220's with 1 HR & 8-9 RBI
                                CF George Springer: .292 with 8 HR & 16 RBI & 9 SB
                                C Jason Castro: .280's with 1-2 HR & 15ish RBI
                                3B Matt Dominguez: .290's with 3-4 HR & 16-18 RBI
DH Adam Dunn (vs LHP): .170's with 4 HR & 8 RBI
DH Jesus Guzman (vs RHP): .260-.280 with 4-5 HR & 10-12 RBI
                                1B Jon Singleton: .300's with 5-6 HR & 15ish RBI
LF Domingo Santana: recent call up in the .250-.275 range with 2 HR
                                2B Marwin Gonzalez: .330 with 2 HR & 12-14 RBI
SS Johnathan Villar: .230's with 0 HR & 8-9 RBI

                                Bench:
OF James Ramsey - pinch runner and spot starter
C Carlos Corporan - try to play him as little as possible
MIF Brian Roberts - gives my young guys a day off when needed
1B/3B/COF Jesus Guzman - virtually a starter with amount of PT he gets

So far my team is hitting pretty well. Lately I've been chasing a ton of "Ball 4's" and it's been frustrating. Springer started out slow but has been tearing the cover off the ball lately. His power is unreal and he's top 5 in HR's in the AL...and top 3 in SB's. I am a pretty big fan of my lineup but I'm weak in the outfield outside of Springer. I don't know if Grossman or Santana are long term solutions for me. Guzman has been a great player so far but he's got a limited ceiling. If I'm in a playoff race I'll try to upgrade the OF position with a solid veteran. If I'm not in contention I'll try to obtain an upgrade in the OF anyways.

SS stud prospect Carlos Correa is doing very well in AAA and I'm targeting a mid-late June call up if he continues to progress. Right now Gonzalez and Villar are battling for the starting 2nd base job as Correa is going straight to SS. So far Gonzalez has been amazing and surpassed my expectations. If Villar loses this he'll likely stay on the squad and replace Roberts as the fill-in MIF.

                                Pitching:

Cosart - pitching decent but walks are killing him
Oberholzer - Started off strong but has struggled recently
White - Is in jeopardy of being demoted from the rotation. Really struggling
Folty - Throws 99-101 and has had two dominant outings in his last 2 starts.
Appel - Only had one start and took the L. Was very average in the start.

Peacock & Feldman - long relievers and both are doing solid
Darin Downs - Doing ok as my LHP out of the pen.
Brad Zeigler - I just cut his ***. He got lit up and wasted some nice leads. Disappointed big time with him

Josh Collmenter & Chad Qualls: Both have been great setup guys and have good ERA's

Closer Shae Simmons - I nabbed Simmons in the Rule 5 draft from Atlanta. He throw's a 96-99 MPH RFB with an ok slider and circle change. He has yet to give up a run in 9 appearances and is 8-8 on save chances.

So far I'm pleased with my team. I'm starting to weed out some guys who aren't performing well and I'm excited about some arms in my farm system. I could use another bat or two in my system. I'm gonna try to hit the jackpot in the draft. I have pick #3 or #4
