With the 1st half of the baseball season wrapped up, the Angels sit at 48-47 (4.0 GB) in the AL West division with the Oakland Athletics sitting at 52-43. Texas Rangers at 47-48, Seattle Mariners sitting at 45-50 with the Houston Astros are 42-54. With the division up for grabs for all 5 teams the 2nd half will be a true test for the Angels who will look to get back into the playoffs. Talk about MVP, Mike Trout leads the team in Average (.348), Hits (116), Runs (61), Doubles (22), HR (25) & RBI's (65). Albert Pujols might be only hitting .241 but is 2nd with 21 homeruns and 62 RBI's.
C.J. Wilson leads the team with 9 wins and 3.20 ERA, Tyler Skaggs is 2nd with 8 wins but has a 4.12 era after his last outing he was roughed up. Fernando Sales (8 W / 2.74) and closer Ernesto Frieri (2.81 ERA / 30 saves) are the only two holding down the pen while everyone else has a 4 plus ERA.
Down on the farm Triple A closer Matt Shoemaker has a 3.10 ERA to go along with 30 saves, and R.J. Alvarez has a 1.86 ERA through 38.2 innings with 24 K's. Top prospect Taylor Lindsey leads the team with .313 Average and 14 Homeruns and 55 RBI's not much else to look at. Eric Stamets made the double a all-star game posting a .271 average, 6 homeruns and 78 hits.

The Athletics lead the AL with the best record with the Royals and Yankees and Red Sox sitting at 50-45, looking at the AL playoffs the only two teams that look to be out of the playoffs are the White Sox who sit at 39-58 (12 GB) and the Astros 42-54 (10 GB), all else are decided by within 7 games or less. Which team will pull off the big trade to push it's team over the edge and get into the playoffs will be the question.
The Dodgers lead the NL with the best record of 57-40 with Pirates (53-42), Cardinals (52-45) both chasing behind. Two surprise teams are the Padres (50-45) and the Phillies (50-45) will be looking at trying to grab a playoff birth, while the Cubs and Reds look to be sellers at 42-53. One hot streak could throw in a wretch in all 3 divisional playoff runs.
First half MVP of the season goes to Prince Fielder (.289 ; 27 HR ; 83 RBI) in the AL, and in the NL Ryan Howard (.294 ; 19 HR ; 69 RBI).
