        Re: MLB 14 The Show Franchise Progress

        Ok so after yesterdays corrupt file debacle I restarted my Pirates franchise. This time around I did things differently as I just used Knights osfm roster instead of re-creating all the players drafted in the 2014 draft. I also decided to just go basically straight to the regular season this time and use mostly guys the Pirates have in real life, although I did make one trade to add catching depth and my opening day roster looks like this.

        Lineup
        1. Gregory Polanco (screw super 2 status)
        2. Starling Marte
        3. Andrew Mccutchen
        4. Pedro Alvarez
        5. Ike Davis
        6. Neil Walker
        7. Russel Martin
        8. Jordy Mercer
        Bench
        OF Travis Snider
        OF Jose Tabata
        IF/OF Josh Harrison
        C Rob Brantly
        ** I forgot to trade Bryan Morris to the Marlins before I started my franchise and I wanted to add a LH bench bat and a backup catcher who wasn't Chris Stewart, so Sanchez could get starting reps in AAA and I was able to do both by sending Morris, Wandy Rodriguez and minor league pitcher Jake Brigham to the Marlins in exchange for Brantley.

        Rotation
        1. Gerrit Cole
        2. Francisco Liriano
        3. Charlie Morton
        4. Brandon Cumpton
        5. Vance Worley (Out pitched Volquez and Locke in spring for 5th spot)
        Bullpen
        Edinson Volquez(Was still in consideration for 5th spot until I watched him get crushed in real life tonight)
        Jared Hughes
        Justin Wilson
        Stolmy Pimentel
        SU: Mark Melancon
        SU: Tony Watson
        CP: Jason Grilli

        Obviously this roster (mainly rotation) is a lot less "exciting" than the one I discussed yesterday, but I was just ready to finally get my franchise underway and can always look to improve my rotation as the season goes along. Other moves I made we're releasing Barmes and a few older minor leaguers and signing a few free agent prospects that had B potential and oneTommy Florival is a 21yo LHP with A potential.

          ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
          Gallardo and Bumgarner anchor the staff as the best right and left-hander, respectively. Bundy, Straily, and Archer are promising righty arms that make up the back part. Lance Williams is an Oakland product that is vying for the 5th spot in the rotation. Chamberlain fulfilled his high ceiling back in 2014 with 14 wins as a reliever and I'm happy to see he's rebounded after some struggles in NY. He's the veteran mentor for a mostly youthful bullpen. Torrez is a nice MR with big upside that we obtained in a trade. Colin Buckley was a free agent acquisition, a 28 year-old lefty that can get better. Matt Wiseman is a stud set-up man that was recently seized from the Marlins for Ryan Cook. Rosenthal has not quite become the star closer we hoped but he's got plenty of time and is reliable. Reed surmounts the 9th-inning role from Cook and I trust he'll do fine.
          Quiroz is a major-league ready farmhand of the Reds who was the return on Francisco Liriano. Burris is also chomping at the bit to get a spot with not much left to prove at Lehigh Valley. Finley is a Rule 5 pick from Pittsburgh last year - he stayed on the roster all season as a long reliever. Cruz was procured as minor league depth while Odorizzi (Rule 5 from TOR) is not the same guy traded for Zack Greinke. Gregory and Herndon were returns in exchanges with the Nationals and Reds. Mooney is 28 and will have to rise fast to not be left behind the younger prospects. Alvardo (2nd round) and Willingham (4th) are 2014 draft picks. Cedeno is a 2015 2nd rounder getting started at Reading. Perez will be groomed for a late-inning responsibility after being plucked from the Orioles. J.P. Howell and Garrett Olson are also sitting around to guide the youngsters down there. Howell was claimed from the A's and Olson from Minnesota.
              I'll be getting the game this afternoon, it'll be the first baseball game I've ever owned. I'll start a franchise with the Orioles, Mets or Yankees.
                  need help choosing a team
                  I am from Europe, so not that fammiliar with baseball, but really love the game. Would like to start a franchise, not sure about the team. I would like to have lot of options for trade and some young prospects to work with. Will be glad for any advice. Also would need to explain how the bullpen works and what kind of players should i get there. And for how long do I need to keep players in AA or AAA till I call em up to majors. Also need to know which statistics do I need to track, which are the most important in the game. When to put the player on the bench and how to use the players from the bullpen. How the bullpen works and when should I use this players. But at most really need to help to choose the team. Im looking for a team with many options to work with and want to be competitive, division is not important. Thanks alot for any suggestions
                      Just started a franchise with the Angels, to go along with my Cardinals one. So far I am 1-2, although if not for two bullpen blow ups I would be 3-0. I never realized just how thin the Angels farm system is though!
                        I'll be doing a franchise with the Phillies until I have a good handle on how to play the game and run a franchise.
                          Game 5: Tanaka vs. Lohse
                          It's game 5 of the Fall Classic of DJeterFan2's franchise. This season has been like no other, after starting hot out of Spring Training, age caught up to the Yankees in May and June. After dealing with season ending injuries to Francisco Cervelli, J.R. Murphy and Ivan Nova after trading away Michael Pineda, Gary Sanchez, Slade Heathcott, and CC Sabathia amongst others, the Yankees depth was tested at Starting Pitching and Catching. Not to worry as the returns on the trades fit like a glove. Jason Hammel, Cliff Lee, and Avisail Garcia proved to be worth the risk as they chipped in well throughout the season.
                          Now in the potential close out game, the Co-Ace of the Yankees, Masahiro Tanaka, will look to end the Cinderella season of the Brewers. Meanwhile, Kyle Lohse will look to take this just one pitch, one inning at a time and hope that the Brewers offense can get something off of Tanaka this time in Game 5. It's win or go home for the Brewers, can the send the series back to Milwaukee?
                            Offseason Outlook:
                            Now that the Yankees have reached the pinnacle of the baseball world, there will be many questions to answer going forward. With the acquisition of Javier Baez during the season, will he be ready to take over at short for Jeter this season? What will the Yankees do with their catching depth going forward? Cervelli, Murphy, and Romine are all candidates for a trade this offseason. And lastly, will the Yankees take the bait of the free agents out there? Hanley Ramirez, Max Scherzer, Chase Headley, and Pablo Sandoval some but not all are potential targets for the Yankees this offseason.
                            Yankees areas of need: Starting Pitching, 2B, 3B, SS, OF depth.
                              Just about ready to head into September and the division all but wrapped up it's going to be a slow grind to get to the playoffs. At this point only competing with Washington for the best record in the NL as they are currently 4.5 games behind me overall. As for the division I lead San Diego by 11 games with a mere 26 to go so barring a complete collapse I should take the division rather easily....
I would like to have lot of options for trade and some young prospects to work with. Will be glad for any advice. Also would need to explain how the bullpen works and what kind of players should i get there. And for how long do I need to keep players in AA or AAA till I call em up to majors. Also need to know which statistics do I need to track, which are the most important in the game. When to put the player on the bench and how to use the players from the bullpen. How the bullpen works and when should I use this players. But at most really need to help to choose the team. Im looking for a team with many options to work with and want to be competitive, division is not important. Thanks alot for any suggestions
                                Quite a few teams would make interesting starts for someone not tied to a team.
