Re: MLB 14 The Show Franchise Progress

The 2014 season is now over for the Rays as they have been eliminated from the playoffs in Game 7. Really sucks to have this happen since I played so damn well in the regular season. The Indians were tough on me all year, and they were obviously the better team in the ALCS. I played every single game for the Rays this season and to not win the World Series really stinks, but I guess that's baseball. It was still the most fun season I have ever played in The Show though.

Dustin Pedroia absolutely killed me this season. One of the toughest outs in the game for me all year. Check out this stat line he had against me.

      .380 AVG
      71 AB
      27 Hits
      8 Runs Scored
      8 RBI
      8 Walks
      8 Doubles
      1 Triple
      1 Home Run

Was shocked to realize he only took me deep once, but boy did he single me to death.

The Braves ended up defeating the Indians in 7 games to win the World Series.

Wow! What a series! Road team winning 5 of the 7 games!
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

Yeah, it was one of the toughest series I ever played in The Show. With the exceptions of Michael Bourn and Asdrubal Cabrera, they had contributions from pretty much everyone. Kind of shot myself in the foot to an extent too, because I traded Cole Hamels from the Phillies to the Indians earlier in the season. Came back to bite me.

Re: MLB 14 The Show Franchise Progress

Well I am at the All-Star Break finally in my 2014 franchise. I am hottt as team. 8 game winning streak. I am finally at a record over .500, 49-46 9GB of the Nats. I am proud of my progress in this franchise mode. I was 10-15 games under .500. I lost my catalyst for the year in Heyward. Turn around and lost my 2B LaStella until the end of September. I could pulled off a blockbuster deal with the Yankees to make up for the lost of Heyward. The Yanks were going to take J-Up & 3B Johnson for OF Beltran, Gardner & UI Kelly Johnson. But I did not pulled the trigger on the deal. Justin has been hot during this 8gm strk .385 4HR 11RBI. He has earned his #4 spot in the lineup for me...

            I had 4 players representing the All-Star team. LF Either .265 16 HR, 47 RBI, SP Teheran 10-5, MLB's best ERA @1.73 117 K, SP Medlen 8-6, 1.89 ERA ,107 K & CP Kimbrel 2.93 ERA, 53 K, 23 SV.
I lost the Mid Summer Classic 5-3. The AL will have home field advantage in the World Series. My own pitcher Medlen gave up the go ahead 3R HR to KC Catcher S. Perez.

Opening up after the All Star break with a 3 game series vs. the Phillies. I have 9 games left to play against the Nats head to head...

Game 2 2014 ALDS Yankees (Me) vs Mariners:

This was a tense low scoring game. Cano helped the Mariners jump to a 1-0 lead with a solo shot in the 1st inning. Pineda was able to settle down and went 6 scoreless innings after giving up the 1st inning HR to Cano and struck out 8 Mariners batters. Iwakuma was just as effective and was able to pitch 6 scoreless innings. He gave up a run in the 6th on an error and gave up a HR to McCann in the bottom of the 7th. McCann's solo shot put the Yankees on top by a score of 2-1. I brought in Betances in the top of the 8th inning and he pitched a perfect scoreless 8th to set up for Robertson.

Without much further ado, we take you to the top of the 9th inning of Game 2 of the 2014 ALDS, where Robertson looks for the save:

Re: MLB 14 The Show Franchise Progress

i have the Miami Marlins leading all of baseball with a 107-34 record riding a 17-game win streak (first season playing on Rookie, moving to Veteran in year two).

i have the division clinched and have the first round of the playoff to look forward to. i have just put in a claim on Paul Goldschmidt from the Arizona Diamondbacks on waivers.

If i can get him that will solidify my roster and some added protection for the big boy Stanton. I would of course have to drop someone off my 25 or 40 man rosters to make room for him but i think it would be worth it in the end..

i just need to finish this season, get through the post season and the off season and start year two (2015) before the release of 15.

This game is a blast and i cant wait to carry it over into 15 with all of its improvements.

Re: MLB 14 The Show Franchise Progress

I had a Phillies fantasy draft and regular Cubs franchise running on The Show '13 before I just got '14 for Christmas (Vita edition BTW). I've been interested in the A's, especially now that I finally got around to watching Moneyball. Gotta root for Beane to get a trophy after seeing that.

How's this for a ragtag group though, ha. I tried not going crazy with trades like I normally do, I was good with most of the homegrown roster they've got going. It relies a lot more on contact (and then OBP I suppose) then I usually employ. I think I'm gonna have fun following through with the Moneyball strategy and finding gems.

Re: MLB 14 The Show Franchise Progress

Finished year 1 with the Mariners and went 85-77. Missed the playoffs by two games to the Rangers.

Made some real life acquisitions in the offseason and this is what my teams looking like going into 2015:

                      1. CF Austin Jackson: played the whole year in Seattle, hit .274 and came close to a 20/20 season (15 HR/21 SB)

                      2. LF Dustin Ackley: Played in around 120 games and hit .261, and locked up the 2-hole position this season with a hot August/September.

                      3. 2B Robinson Cano: hit .314 in 161 games, with 197 hits, 18 HR, 80 RBI, and 15 SB (came close to 20/20 season too.) won gold glove and made all star team.

                      4. DH Nelson Cruz: hit .265 with 28 HRs, but I signed him to the same contract we have him IRL. Which unfortunately is obviously an overpay. Made all star team in BAL.

                      5. 3B Kyle Seager: hit .289 with 25 HRs, 99 RBI, and played in all 162 games. Won AL 3B gold glove and made all star team.

                      6. 1B Logan Morrison/Evan Gattis: LoMo hit .243 with 11 HR in around 80 games. That averages to ~20 HR in a full season. Excited for what he can do against RHP. I literally JUST traded for Gattis, who will see time at C and DH as well as playing 1B against LHP. He provides great depth for 1B/C. If either flop, the other could see full time duties.

                      7. C Mike Zunino: hit .221 in 150 games with 17 HR and 74 RBI. Won gold glove. Could lost starting job to Gattis and could end up back in AAA because he has all his options left.

                      8. RF Justin Ruggiano/Seth Smith: a straight up platoon right here. Didn't get a chance to look at their stats, but that attributes say this will be a great platoon out of the 8-hole.

                      9. SS Brad Miller: Chris Taylor is starting the year in AAA, and Miller hit .234 in around 140 games. He did hit 12 HRs, so he has some nice pop for the 9 hitter.

                      Bench:
UTL Willie Bloomquist: played in around 40 games, and is in his last year of contract. Hope he retires a Mariner.

5th OF either James Jones (.250, 0 HR, 11 RBI in 55 G) or Stefen Romero (.197, 4 HR, 12 RBI in 30 G) the only reason I'm considering Romero is because he can also play IF.

                      Rotation:
Felix: went 17-5, with 234 Ks and a 2.27 ERA. Won Cy Young and made all star team.
Kuma: went 15-7 with 199 Ks, and a 3.34 ERA.
Paxton: went 12-9 with 175 Ks and a 3.43 ERA.
Happ: went 10-9 in TOR with a 4.32 ERA
Walker, Elias or Ramirez: all made about 10 starts each last year.

                      Bullpen:
CL Rodney: 45/47 SV, made all star team. 1.97 ERA
SU Farquhar: 3/4 SV, 2.31 ERA
                      MR Furbush: 3.03 ERA
                      MR Medina: 3.43 ERA
MR Leone: 2.21 ERA, was called up in June.
MR Luetge: made 5 appearances in Sept.
MR Carson Smith: called up in August after Trade Deadline. Made ~25 appearances and had a 0.43 ERA.

Looking forward to what should be a great year.

With carry over franchise, I am so vested in my Padres franchise. I just finished a quarter of my season going 18-22 and I micro manage every aspect since I will carry this over into 15. SCEA really did a hell of a job with this feature.

I'll be doing the same thing, only with my New York Yankees. I'll manage practically every aspect of the team, shaping it as I see fit. I simmed season one, and finished below .500% and missed the playoffs. Carlos Beltran got hurt during the season, and retired in the offseason due to the injury. Derek Jeter, Hiroki Kuroda, and Ichiro Suzuki retired as well. These will be some new look Yankees in 2015.

I tried to do the real life acquisitions. At the very least, I wound up with almost everyone that I should have. I let McCarthy go and I didn't resign Robertson, just as in real life.

I signed Andrew Miller and traded for Didi Gregorious and Nathan Eovaldi, and also traded for Justin Wilson. I don't like hitting with him, but I signed Stephen Drew as well, to match the Yankees' real life transactions.

So, my lineup to start 2015 (not in order)

1B Mark Teixeira (I probably will try to trade him, especially if we're not in the playoff hunt at the deadline.)

2B-Stephen Drew (I'd much rather play Rob Refsnyder/Jose Pirela. If Drew struggles, they'll be given a shot.)

3B- Chase Headley (resigned in offseason.)

SS- Didi Gregorious (traded for in offseason)

                          LF- Brett Gardner

                          CF- Jacoby Ellsbury

RF-Chris Young (Beltran's sudden retirement left us in a jam. RF is a weakness for us now. Young will be the starter to open the season, but I'll look at alternatives (minor leagues, current free agents, trade/waivers.)

DH-Garrett Jones/Alex Rodriguez (I don't really want to play A-Rod, but if Jones struggles, I'll give him a shot.)

                          Pitching (not in order)
SP Masahiro Tanaka (our #1 starter, he didn't get hurt and miss most of the 2014 season when I simmed it)
                          SP CC Sabathia
                          SP Michael Pineda
                          SP Nathan Eovaldi

After that, it's open. I have Chris Capuano, I haven't traded Shane Greene yet, though I need to.

RP- our setup man will be Andrew Miller, and the closer will be Dellin Betances.

I still need to trade for Johnny Barbato, and I need to trade away Shane Greene and Francisco Cervelli.

                          --------------------------

I opened the 2015 season at home against AL East foe the Tampa Bay Rays. It was a crazy game. They took a 3-1 lead, as Ben Zobrist and Evan Longoria hit home runs early. Chase Headley hit a home run to get us on the board. It seemed like all hope was lost, but Mark Teixeira blasted a three run homer to give us a 4-3 lead. In the seventh, Brett Gardner hit a solo home run. In the eigth, we put in Andrew Miller, who gave up a hit but didn't allow a run. In the ninth, I put in closer Dellin Betances. Then all heck broke loose.

We were up 6-3. Betances gave up three runs, in the ninth, to tie the game. I was in shock. I don't remember exactly how, I remember he gave up one home run and it may have been a two-run homer. So, the Rays stormed back, tying the game.

I was up to bat. Brett Gardner singled. He stole first. Then, the stole second. Another base hit got him on third. Jacoby Ellsbury, Captain Clutch, singled a grounder past third base to drive Gardner home to give us a walk-off 7-6 win. It was crazy, a ton of fun. Betances' ,elt down concerns me though. Maybe I'll have him be the set-up man and Miller be the closer. Time will tell.

It was not Masahiro Tanaka's finest game, he gave up several hits and three runs. Betances is the winning pitcher, but earned an ERA of 27.00 for his efforts.

Gregorious hit two singles, a nice opening game for our new short stop. Stephen Drew and Chris Young were held hit-less.

In game two of our home series against the Rays, Michael Pineda takes the mound for the Yankees while the Rays will start Jeremy Hellickson.

What are some good sliders/a difficulty level? I'm awful at hitting but I want fun/competitive games.

Go to the slider thread for the Show 14'. I use Armor & Sword's/Marino's Slider set. You will probably make some tweaks as needed. Like changing the pitching speed to your liking and maybe since you are having trouble hitting. Go to Veteran hitting difficulty.

I am playing with these sliders in my 1st season with the Braves pretty much using the 2014 roster. Team ERA is MLB best 2.43. I am also closing back in on the division leading Nats after they started the season like 16-0 and lead the division in double digits.

Im 6.0GB of the Nats, currently playing them in a 3 games series at the "Ted" in August. I have taken game 1 of series 3-2.
