Re: MLB 14 The Show Franchise Progress

Well...a bit overdue for an update. We defeated the D'Backs in 5 games to reach the World Series. The Rays defeated the Indians in 7 games to reach the Fall Classic as well.

I won game 1 of the series as Wainwright outdueled Matt Moore to win the game 2-1. Brett Gardner came up with the game winning RBI in the top of the 9th, after Tavares (man its hard playing with him)

In Game 2, we lost 6-4. Wacha got in trouble early but we fought back and our bullpen lost the game. Series Tied 1-1

Game 3, we fell behind 6-1 after 4 innings, and was down 5-0 before we recorded our first out in the 1st. Joe Kelly threw 30 pitches and gave up 2 homers, 2 doubles and 5 runs without recording an out. Jaime Garcia quickly came in and righted the ship. We stormed back with a 5 run 6th to tie the game and added one more in the 7th and 8th to go ahead 8-6 and closed out the game without giving up a hit. Cards lead 2-1.

Game 4 appeared to be another pitchers duel as the Rays threw Moore on short rest against Shelby Miller. We took and early 1-0 lead, but Miller gave up the tying run on a James Loney basehit to score Desmond Jennings in the 5th. We turned to our bullpen which pitched 4 strong innings yielding only one run. Holliday hit a go ahead homer in the 6th to make it 2-1 and then all the sudden the on-slaught started as we went on to score 4 more to blow the lead open to 6-1 after 6. In the 7th we added two more to make it 8-1. Leone, Choate, Siegrist, and Motte closed out the game to give us an 8-2 victory and a 3-1 lead in the series.

Game 5 is tonight as we will put Wainwright on the mound to face David Price, who is pitching on three days rest. Hopefully we can close it out here in Busch and not have to go back to Tampa Bay to close out the series.

    I love October baseball!

Re: MLB 14 The Show Franchise Progress

So, I am almost done with my equipment edits on a roster I will use. (Hybrid V3)

Alright I'm close to deciding between either the Cubs, Orioles, Royals, Braves, Nationals, Red Sox or Reds. The roster I'll be using will have current free agents as of this upcoming offseason, so that means players like Max Scherzer, James Shields, Victor Martinez, Kendrys Morales, Mike Morse, Pablo Sandoval, Jared Burton, Nelson Cruz, Nick Markakis, Joba Chamberlain etc......... (along with players from EVERY org.). I'll play every game of spring training so I can make all the real life transactions that will happen after the world series and into the offseason. If a player currently has a club/player option I left them on their current team and on the MLB team(Unless their option has been declined). I'll make adjustments as needed obviously.

I will also make sure every team has a real manager instead of someone who is fake. When I start my franchise I'll post a list of what managers/coaches went were. (there are plenty to choose from if you keep up with all of that)

This will be a 30 team Control Franchise as usual for me. I'm hoping to be done with the equipment edits (every player on every team will have edits, plus Team Color cleats for ALL Orgs) so I am hoping to have that finished by the weekend and go from there. Have about 6 teams left.

Side Note: I also have International Free Agents and unfortunately no Oscar Tavares. (I ended up editing him into recently defected 2B Andy Ibanez and placed him in the Free Agent List.

Re: MLB 14 The Show Franchise Progress

Well...we did it. My beloved St.Louis Cardinals won the 2015 World Series after beating the Rays 2-0 in Game 5 last night behind a dominant pitching performance by Adam Wainwright, who threw 7 innings, gave up 2 hits, while striking out 11. We turned the ball over to Jason Motte in the 8th and then Trevor Rosenthal in the 9th for the save.

David Price put up a great performance of his own for the Rays, but in the 5th, we got a 2 out RBI single by Matt Adams, who only managed 4 hits in the entire postseason, but came thru in a key situation.

Matt Holliday earned Postseason MVP, while Daniel Descalso earned the World Series MVP after hitting over .400 for the series while driving in 4 runs and scoring 6 times himself.

The feeling of winning it was something, as I have played nearly 400 games of franchise baseball in the Show '14 and all that "hard work" has paid off as I captured the title. What was great is my wife and daughter cheered me on for the final 3 outs. And after winning, my wife ran up to me gave me a big hug and kiss as did my daughter. I know they did it for my benefit and somewhat to poke fun at me for how serious I take these games, but man did it feel good.

Now its on to the offseason and I have decided that I am keeping Oscar Taveras on my roster. I will carry over my franchise save to '15. If they have a patch on the Cardinals uniforms next year to honor Taveras then I'll remove him from my roster. Until such time, his legacy will live on at least in the digital video game baseball world.

Re: MLB 14 The Show Franchise Progress

What a game I just played. Was pitching a gem with Jeremy Hellickson through 7. Rays leading 1-0. Ran into some trouble in the 8th on a 2 out 2-run home run to Nick Markakis that gave the Orioles a 2-1 lead.

Top of the 9th inning and I make the first 2 outs. James Loney keeps the game alive with a single up the middle. Evan Longoria is next and hits a 2 out 2 strike 2-run home run to give the Rays a 3-2 lead!

Grant Balfour then closed out the game for save #45 on the season.

4 games left in August and it's on to the September stretch towards the postseason. The Rays currently have a 5 game lead over the second place Red Sox with a crucial 4 game series coming up with those Red Sox. I have a real chance to put this division away with a good series.

This franchise has been so much fun this year for sure. I love it.

Re: MLB 14 The Show Franchise Progress

I have started the offseason. Only lost Randy Choate (who was getting released anyways) to retirements. Peralta had torn his achilles and I was worried that he would be forced to retire but he didn't.

So far so good, as I have just re-signed a lot of my prospects and even got Kevin Siegrist to sign quickly. Biggest obstacle, Shelby Miller wanting $8M a year after making $1.5M the year before.

Re: MLB 14 The Show Franchise Progress

Man, I am just hitting the west coast trip with my Orioles after the All-Star break. It has not been a fun trip so far. lost two of three in Oakland, dropped game one in Anehiem 1-0 as my bats have gone quiet. Sitting at 59-40 on July 22nd. 2.5 games in front of the Rays and 3.5 in front of the Jays.

Made some changes to the rotation as well. Ubaldo in in the Pen now. My rotation now goes, Tillman, Chen, Bundy, Norris and Gausman. Bundy has been fantastic. 6-2 with a 1.82 ERA in 69.1 innings, teams are only hitting .190 off him. Gausman is getting his first start of the season today after going 12-2 in AAA and starting the AAA All-Star game.

Got Markakis back from the DL and he has started to figure it out. When he went down in May he was hittin .174 he is now at .211 and climbing. Jones has been my best hitter .297 with 21 HRs and 66 RBIs. Davis leads the team with 52 RBIs.

Have to get back into this now that there are fewer games that I am playing.

Re: MLB 14 The Show Franchise Progress

I'm really glad saves will be transferable to '15! I am 100% invested in my M's franchise, I'm seriously considering skipping OSFM next year...

                ...Well maybe not

Anyway, I managed to win the 2018 World Series without signing a single free agent in 5 years, but part of that is due to having ~65M tied up to just Felix and Cano lol. Felix started to regress pretty heavily in 2017 and 2018, I think he went from a 98 to a 90. He had a 3.53 ERA in 2018 due to a terrible April but his other peripherals were around his career average.

Cano is still hanging around, he's still a 90 after 2018 and probably had his best year offensively (.317 with 27 HR). I edited him pre-franchise to better reflect his real life '14, so he started as a 94 IIRC (and low 60's power).

Other than those two, what's left of the OG Mariners are pretty true to life. Seager is Seager, Zunino is Zunino (lol), Maurer turned into a pretty good closer, Miller is consistently inconsistent, and Tai has slowly improved every season. Ackley and Paxton were pretty good for a while, but I traded them for prospects after a couple of years.
Bakin' soda, I got bakin' soda

Bo McLaughling getting fired from Colorado. garth Iorg/Johnny Narron fired in Milwaukee. Terry Pettis going to Houston. Greg Coulbrunn leaving Boston. Chilli Davis to Boston. The Twins entire staff was fired etc........

Im very late in starting my Franchise, but still very excited. My favorite team is the Tigers and my 2nd Favorite is the Reds, so Im only controlling those two. I dont have internet, everything on my iphone so no certain rosters for me, but Ive never minded cause I like the unknowns and all that, it gives me a different game haha Im using ITBEME23's Sliders on the PS4. Im only gonna play Divisional games for both teams and sim the rest probably.

Hey guys, I am on a 10 game road trip playing with the Braves. I swept the Nats, tooked 2 out of 3 from the Astros and I have taken the 1st of 3 from the Phillies.

Game 2 the Bad I am getting my butt kicked 6-1 with Cliff Lee on the hill vs. Teheran. Teheran is my ace @ 8-6 1.86 ERA, 95K 111.2 IP.

It was a bad game for him he gave up a HR to Rollins, HR to D. Brown and 2HRS against Howard. I don't start games over when losing badly hell I'm 38-42 for the year.

Here top of the 6th. Heyward led off with 1B. Simmons followed it up 1B to left. Up come La Stella no outs. I was pondering a sac bunt to move the runners to second & third. I took the first two pitches. The count was 1-1, so I decided to bunt. The bunt went slowly down the third base line. They wasn't expected it and Lee fielded the ball with no throw. Bases loaded for J-Up. He hits a soft lob towards 2B & SS. They were playing double play I guess no one gets to it. The ball rolls into CF. The CF was playing deep. Heyward & Simba scores.

Comeback was on RIGHT! I get a message on the screen game Application error. I could see what it was. It did give me a suggestion, but I was it hoping it restore back to game, but no such luck. The game completely restarted.

The good thing my franchise wasn't ruined. I hate I will play the game over and the Phillies have to try to get those HRs back....

Well ladies & gents, I replayed this application error interrupted game.

                        It was a pitcher's duel this time. Lee went 7IP 3H 5K 0R & Teheran 8IP 0R 2H 9K. I won the game 1-0. I am 8-1 on the 10 game road trip.

How I scored the run: Heyward led off with a 2B. Simmons grounded out. Either hit a sharp grounder to the SS Revere, yes Revere. The CPU pinch hitted Revere for Rollins and they used IF Galvis to PH for the pitcher. Revere promptly rushes the throw to Howard at 1B. The ball bounces twice before getting to Howard and he bobbles it. Heyward aggressively rounds 3rd and scores easily.

Thanks to the CPU for making this possible. Galvis was available to play SS. OF Ruf PH for the pitcher. The CPU brings in Nix to play 3rd. But looking at the boxscore. They used OF Ruf, IF Galvis & OF Revere in the 8th as PH'ers. Oh well...

4 games left in August and it's on to the September stretch towards the postseason. The Rays currently have a 5 game lead over the second place Red Sox with a crucial 4 game series coming up with those Red Sox. I have a real chance to put this division away with a good series.
I ended up splitting that series with the Red Sox. Dustin Pedroia absolutely killed me in the 4 game series. It was unheard of. I think I may have only gotten him out 3-4 times in the entire series.

Just finished a series with the Blue Jays at Tropicana Field taking 2 out of 3. The Rays are 87-54 on September 4th and now have a 6.5 game lead over the 2nd place Red Sox in the division. There was a point where I was at least that many games back in the division earlier in the season. Rays have played well to get to this point.

Evan Longoria has been smoking hot over his last 10 games batting .400 with 14 hits, 5 home runs, and 9 RBI.

Kevin Kiermaier has also been swinging a hot bat over his last 10 games batting .421 with 16 hits, 4 home runs, and 5 RBI.

I just had a really crazy back and forth game to close out the 3-game series with the Blue Jays. I have posted the box score to show how back and forth it was. I won the game 9-8, but was actually down 5-0 after the 1st inning! I also used a few September call-ups in this game to spell some of the regulars. Check it out.
