It just keeps on getting worse for my Phillies. Make it 9 straight losses now to fall to 9-14 on the season. I was just swept by the Dodgers in a 4 game series. 3 of the losses were of the walkoff variety with the last game being a walkoff 2-run home run by Yasiel Puig. That is now 5 walkoff losses in the last 6 games. I just don't have any answers. That 4 game series against the Dodgers may have been the worst series I have ever played in the history of The Show. It doesn't help that I struck out 41 times in the series. Just dreadful.
As I stated in my previous post, my bullpen was WAY overworked in that Dodgers series. I sent Freddy Galvis to Triple-A and called up RHP Shawn Camp to get a fresh bullpen arm in. After being up for 2 games I sent Camp back to Triple-A and called up Ronny Cedeno for the bench to be paired with Cesar Hernandez as the utility guys. With 2 off days coming in the next week, I will be able to use 5th starter Roberto Hernandez out of the bullpen.
It's looking like I will be sending LHP Jake Diekman to Triple-A and will recall LHP Mario Hollands. Diekman has been dreadful for me. He is 0-2 with a 9.00 ERA in 7 innings pitched. 11 hits given up, 3 home runs allowed, 3 walks, and lefties are hitting .316 against him.
Mario Hollands has been pretty solid in Triple-A with a 1-0 record, 1.64 ERA in 11 innings pitched with 13 hits given up, no home runs allowed, 2 walks, and 11 strikeouts.
Next up is a 3 game series in Arizona against the Diamondbacks (11-14) to finish off the 10 game road trip.
A.J. Burnett will start game 1 of the series. He has been the best pitcher so far for the Phillies. He is 2-0 with a 0.31 ERA in 28.2 innings pitched with 21 hits given up, no home runs allowed, 11 walks, and 25 strikeouts. He'll face Patrick Corbin.
