Re: MLB 14 The Show Franchise Progress

In the ALDS against the Mariners with my Yankees. We won our division and SEA defeated OAK in the wild card. We took game 1 in NY, and then SEA took the next 2. Gonna play game 4 later and hope that we are able to extend the series back to NY.

Re: MLB 14 The Show Franchise Progress

I'm in mid May in my Mariners franchise, I'm sitting at 24-15, after losing 3 of 4 to the Royals, they roughed up Felix to the tune of 4 innings 6 hits 6 ER 6 K's 6 BB's, anyways here is a look at my team....

      My lineup:

CF James Jones .287 AVG 0 HR 6 RBI 12 SB
SS Brad Miller .258 AVG 4 HR 14 RBI
      2B Robinson Cano .290 AVG 10 HR 32 RBI
RF Giancarlo Stanton .257 AVG 14 HR 32 RBI
DH Corey Hart .262 AVG 5 HR 18 RBI
      3B Kyle Seager .253 AVG 9 HR 27 RBI
      1B Jesus Montaro .283 AVG 6 HR 14 RBI
      C Mike Zunino .241 AVG 5 HR 14 RBI
LF Dustin Ackley / Drew Stubbs (platoon) .288 AVG 2 HR 9 RBI/.306 AVG 2 HR 7 RBI

      Bench:

OF Michael Saunders .258 AVG 1 HR 6 RBI
UT Eric Young Jr. .172 AVG 1 HR 5 RBI 8 SB
      C Jesus Sucre .409 (22 AB's) 0 HR 2 RBI

      Rotation:

      Felix Hernandez - 4-3 3.54 ERA 64 K
      Hisashi Iwakuma - 2-1 2.39 ERA 47 K
      James Paxton - 5-0 2.25 ERA 44 K
      Taiwan Walker (DL) - 1-3 4.88 ERA 25 K
      Chris Young - 5-1 4.35 ERA 40 K

      Bull pen:

      RHP Yoervis Medina - 3-0, 0.00 ERA, 20 IP, 29 K, 3 BB, 0.65 WHIP
      RHP Dominic Leone - 0-1, 3.44 ERA, 18.1 IP, 19 K, 11 BB, 1.25 WHIP
      RHP Danny Farquhar - 1-1, 2.77 ERA, 13 IP, 11 K, 5 BB, 1.00 WHIP
      LHP Antonio Bastardo - 2-1, 1.10 ERA, 16.1 IP, 26 K, 2 BB, 0.67 WHIP
      RHP Tom Wilhelmson - 1-3, 5.40 ERA, 13.1 IP, 17 K, 9 BB, 1.95 WHIP
      RHP Carson Smith - 0-0, 3.38 ERA, 10.2 IP, 12 K, 8 BB, 1.50 WHIP
      RHP Fernando Rodney - 0-0, 14/15 SV/OPP, 1.17 ERA, 15.1 IP 15 K, 8 BB, 0.78 WHIP

      LHP Charlie Furbush (sent down) - 0-1, 8 K, 6.52 ERA, 2.57 WHIP

What moves do you guys think I should consider? I'm not sold on Montero at 1B quite yet, and his defense is terrible, I've also been trying to move Saunders for some infield depth, I can't really sub Montero out of the game late for defensive reasons, unless I bring Young in, which seems like a waste given his athleticism. Also could use a long term DH solution, Hart is barely hanging on, I would like to find a long term replacement.

That's a pretty solid lineup. How did you get Giancarlo?

I sent them Sanchez (B), Hultzen (A), Franklin (B) and Peterson (A), made it a 2 part trade. I got Stubbs for Pike (B), and Kivlehan (B), and picked Young Jr up on waivers. Have no idea what the Mets were doing DFA'ing him, he was hitting .140 with them though. I picked him up and outrighted Bloomquist.

Medina has been pure filthy for me. I'm thinking of trading Rodney, what could I get for him?

Re: MLB 14 The Show Franchise Progress

The Marlins have started July off in good fashion, capped by a notable event to close out the latest homestand.

The team is currently on a 4-game win streak and have closed to within 10 games of the NL East leading Mets (yeah, they still in 1st) for the first time in months. Still, the Marlins are under .500 (41-45), so goal #1 is still reaching the .500 mark.

The team made a couple more moves to try to improve the youth in the squad. Saltalamacchia was moved to Seattle, who lost Zunino for at least 6 months with a dislocated ankle, for 1B Jesus Montero.

The team also picked up young-catcher-with-little-expected-upside Hector Sanchez from the Giants for a couple prospects, included a B-rated 2B kid.

Both players will platoon for the rest of the year in all likelihood. Rob Brantley will get a look vs RHP behind the plate while Greg Dobbs continues to swing a decent bat at 1B. Montero will move Viciedo to LF, which will give Yelich a break from facing southpaws.

In the latest series, the Marlins swept the Phillies. The big news came in the final game. Jose Fernandez improved to 11-1 and lowered his ERA to 1.97 by pitching a perfect game against the Phillies. Providing offense in support was Greg Dobbs with 2 HR along with Marcel Ozuna driving in a run with a double in the 3rd inning.

The 11 wins puts Fernandez in a tie for the NL lead in that department. He joins Pirates hurler Brandon Cumpton (11-3, 2.00) atop the NL wins leader board.

Giancarlo Stanton looks like he will not be shopped. He's finding his stroke again as he's up to 23 HR, although his batting average is still in the .230's. Yelich is also picking up the pace again, upping his batting average to .264.

On the mound, Anthony DeSclafani is finding some rougher going at the majors. He's clinging to quality starts, but his last outing might be showing his grip fading. His ERA is closing in on the 4.00 mark as well.

Andrew Heaney is either really good or really struggling. When he's on, he's very tough to touch. When he's not, it gets ugly fast. Fortunately, he's stayed on more than off as he continues to impress overall.

Also finding things somewhat of a struggle are prospect arms Michael Feliz and Tyler Kolek. Both are dealing with challenges in AAA. Kolek's ERA is 4.00 in his first few AAA starts while Feliz is at 5.25 and really having issues. Both will be watched closely.

Not having a challenge is Justin Nicolino. He's only 2-3 somehow despite a 2.75 ERA. At this rate, he'll be pushing for a shot at the rotation. With Brad Hand gone and Brian Flynn not proven much, Nicolino could get that shot.

Henderson Alvarez might be working his way out of the dog house. He's killing AA batters, no surprise but at least he's finding some success again. He might be moving up to AAA soon.

3B Colin Moran has started his AAA action on a positive note. He's picked up 25 ABs so far and is batting .360. Obviously, he'll need more time to see how it goes, but it's a nice start.

                Injuries:

The Marlins will be without 2B Donovan Solano for about 3 weeks. He pulled a hamstring swinging and missing at a change-up low in the zone. Hechavarria will start there until this whatever it is he's on that's turned him into a hitter cools off. Then, it will likely be a split situation between him and Furcal.

Re: MLB 14 The Show Franchise Progress

Messed up signing minor league guys in my offseason, so I simulated the 2014 with the Yankees to get to the offseason again.

                  Season I played - 80-82 BA .247 ERA 3.62
                  Simmed season - 78-84 BA .245 ERA 3.68

                  Pretty close numbers

major difference was I hit well with Beltran and couldnt hit with Tex. That was switched in the sim season, Tex tore it up with 42 HR's and Beltran hit .230 with 18 HR's

I ended up trading Gardner for the Reds 74 rated top SS prospect.

                  2015 Lineup

                  CF Ellsbury
                  SS Red Prospect
                  C McCann
                  1B Tex
                  RF Beltran
                  2B K Johnson/Solarte
                  3B Arod/Solarte
                  DH Pederson (Rule 5 Pickup)
                  LF Schierholtz/Heathcott

                  Rotation

                  Tanaka - 87
                  CC - 83
                  Pineda - 81
                  Phelps - 78
                  Malholm - 78

                  Hanarahan - 80
                  Bentances - 78

                  Robertson - 87

                  13-7 first 20 games

Tex batting an insane .440 with 13 HR's!

Gary Sanchez and Mason Williams are close to getting a callup

                    My rotation is:

                    2. Sonny Grey

                    4. Ricky Romero
                    5. Marcus Stroman

First season, finished tied for first in AL East with Rays went to one game play-off, lost but managed to get a wild card spot. Beat the Mariners 1-0, then went on to face the Rays, went through all 5 games, winning the final game 8-6, went into ALCS to face the Rangers, I lost in six games the final game being 2-1 (after 13) managed to get a few reputable trades from this season including Markakis, Trout, Lowrie, Altuve, and Medlen and got the rest of these guys in the offseason (all trades except Abreu, who was released by the Withe Sox). The trade logic in this game is inconsistent.
How in the world did you get Trout? I didn't think the NYY had enough prospects in the world to get a deal like that done.

He's not playing as the Yanks, he's playing as Toronto. I think it's pretty safe to say he abused the hell out of the trade logic and I have no idea why Chicago would simply release Abreu but also don't know what rosters he's using either.

I don't know, the CPU doesn't like anyone on the Marlins (not even Fernandez) for Trout, so I can't imagine how to trade for him.

I'm using the Braves in my franchise. Definitely some trade bugs and I've totally taken advantage lol

                          Lineup
                          2B - C. Utley / D. Gordon
                          LF - J. Upton
                          RF - G. Stanton
                          C - E. Gattis
                          CF - J. Heyward
                          1B - F. Freeman
3B - C. Johnson (W. Middlebrooks prob taking spot tho)
                          SS - A. Simmons

                          Rotation
                          1 - D. Foster
                          2 - E. Santana
                          3 - J. Teheran

I did something last night against the Rays, that I have never done before. It was Archer vs Felix was the pitching match up... Anyways this was the scenario: James Jones walked to lead off the 6th, followed by a Brad Miller 2 run HR, they go to the bullpen. Robby Cano comes to bat and drills the first pitch he sees 405 ft to dead center making it 8-1. Then Stanton comes up works a full count then absolutely drills a hanging changeup 469 feet making it 9-1. Then Kyle Seager comes up, and at this point, I'm like there isn't no way in hell he hits one, but sure enough he pulled an inside fastball on an 0-2 count no less off the right field foul pole. So if you're scoring at home that's back-to-back-to-back-to-back HR's. For the record I play on All Star, generic sliders, and GP No Feedback.

Check out that home run to hit ratio. I'm liking Joyce a heck of a lot more than David DeJesus.

I won the last two games of April against the Red Sox in blowouts to move us to 10-19. Our bats have really come around as of late. If we can keep this up, we might be able to dig ourselves out of this hole eventually.

Re: MLB 14 The Show Franchise Progress

Went 91-71 in my first season with the Royals and made the playoffs with them for the first time since 1985. Ended up playing the Angels, who were the winner of the Wild Card game. Started off and won the first game of the series 5-1, then my bats went cold and lost the next 3 straight. The Angels went on to win the World Series. Ned Yost was blamed and was fired.

I also had my first experience with a The Show franchise offseason......... wow. IN DEPTH. Had a lot of fun with it.

                                Off-Season notes:

After Alcides Escobar hit .240 for the 2nd straight year at SS and basically lost his starting job to Emilio Bonifacio in July(mid-season addition as I thought Dayton should have never let him go in real life), I signed Jed Lowrie to take over at SS full time and moved Escobar to the bench.

Resigned Billy Butler, who hit roughly .330 with 36 HRs and 120 RBI, to a 4 year deal worth roughly $45 million.

                                Here's my lineup:

CF: Ben Revere (Trade deadline deal in 2014 as I badly needed a leadoff hitter. Probably not realistic, even though he was hitting .240 at the time and the Phils were WAY out of it)
                                SS: Jed Lowrie
                                LF: Gordon
                                DH: Butler
                                1B: Hosmer
                                C: Sal
                                3B: Moose
                                RF: Cain
                                2b: Infante

Bench: Bonifacio/Hector Sanchez (2014 trade when Sal got hurt for 3 months)/Josh Willingham (2015 FA signing power off the bench, 1 year deal with a club option I won't exercise)/Escobar

SP: Ventura/Vargas/Zimmer/Duffy/Johan Santana (signed as a reclamation project at 1 year, $2 mil, Aaron Brooks is in the wings if it doesn't work out)

Bullpen is pretty much the same as the Royals in real life, except I signed Darren O'Day in the offseason.
