Re: MLB 15 Franchise Progress Thread

I've got a Cubs franchise going (needed an NL team as I'm trying to get the #PitchersWhoRake trophy and chose the Cubs over the Padres because I wanted to play at Wrigley. Incidentally, I almost got my trophy with Travis Wood, but the ball died right at the wall down the 3rd base line).

Through June 21st and the Cubs lead the division by 14.5 games (we won 16 games straight early in the season and are currently on a 7 game win streak, having just swept the Twins in Minnesota)! I think we're something like 51-19 at the moment, after just slaughtering the Twins in our series finale, 13-2.

I haven't made too many moves. I traded Herrera for a couple of prospects because he was just a drag on my lineup and promoted Baez to the majors, I called up Kris Bryant to play 3rd (even though La Stella has been a surprise in the lineup this far), promoted Denorfia from AAA, picked up Jeremy Hellickson in a trade and brought up a reliever (and sent down Jackson and 2 others who's names I cannot recall at the moment).

No big roster moves. Rizzo and Coghlan have been money at the plate, though Rizzo's numbers have cooled of late. Both are still in the top 8 in hitting in the NL or majors overall, can't remember which.

Pitching has been stellar, but I'm worried about the upcoming 4-game series with the Dodgers at Wrigley, having to face Kershaw and Grienke (I was no-hit by some Brewer--before I went off for 16 straight W's).

      <table><td bgcolor=#004A8D>Off Season & Spring Training - 2016</td></table>

      Off Season

Ned Yost's contract was up and we decided not to bring him back. We Gene McClain to take his place. He brought in new hitting, 1st and 3rd base coaches.

Alex Gordon will most likely finish his career as a Royal. He was signed to a 5 year deal worth 59.7 million. Deal will expire when he is 37 years old. Greg Holland signed a 1 year deal for 7 million avoiding arbitration. Wade Davis agreed to a 4 year deal for worth 30 million. If the team is struggling at the break Holland will most likely be moved and Davis would take over the closer role. Alcides Escobar signed a 3 year deal for 33 million. Not sure he was really worth that much. But he was a FA and we have no one ready to take over at SS. Hopefully Raul Mondesi is ready for that by the time the deal is over. Lorezo Cain signed a 1 year 2.7 millioan dollar deal avoiding arbitration. Danny Duffy agreed to a 2 year deal worth 8 million. That buys out his last arbitration year. Mike Moustakas signed a 3 year deal for 18 million. That buys out his last arbitration year +1 FA year. And Chris Medlen agreed to a 1 year 2.5 million dollar deal.

Alex Rios did not resign with the team. He signed with Miami for 3 years at 7.4 million per year. He is platooning with Christian Yelich in LF. We also let Jeremy Guthrie go. He is still unsigned.

We signed 20 year old 1B Carlos Guillen. Not sure if he was on another team and let go or not. He has 71/71 contact with 52/69 power. Pretty bad fielder but would fit the DH role well when Morales leaves. And since he is only 20 could develop into a respectable 1B eventually.

      Spring Training

There wasnt to many questions going into spring. Needed to figure out what to do with RF. Jarrod Dyson, Lane Adams, Paulo Orlando and Jorge Bonifacio were all kind of battling for it. Dyson was gonna be on the team regardless. Just needed to see if he would be full time RF or platoon. He ended up hitting over .300 including .400 off of lefties. He won the full time job and will lead off. Jorge Bonifacio won the 4th outfielder spot.

5th starter/long reliever was another battle. There were about 6 guys fighting for that spot. Chris Young was the best. He gave up no runs in 14 innings with a 0.67 WHIP. I dont feel he can hold up as a starter though so he gets the long relief role to start the year. Kyle Zimmer did really well in his first spring training. Probably should have gotten the last rotation spot but im gonna start him in AAA and see how it goes. Kris Medlen will get the first shot at the spot. Wasnt great during spring though. If he fails he would move to the pen and Zimmer would come up. Not sure if i would go with a 8 man pen from there or send a back up position player down.

I'm at the All-Star break in my Arizona Franchise and things aren't going so great so far. I'm 40-48 which means I'm 20 games out in the NL West and 7 games back in the Wild Card. I think the divsion out of reach at this point, but if we can string some wins together then maybe we can get back in the WC. If we can't do that within the next few weeks, then I need to look at dumping some vets before the trade deadline.

If this is the wrong thread, I apologize now and if so, could someone direct me to the appropriate thread.

OK... I'm playing a franchise in The Show 10. (Dodging the stones and split-finger fast balls) I tried to sign a free agent but it tells me my roster is full and I need to release a player before I can sign a ree agent. I have a full 25 man major league roster and 38 players on my 40 man roster. I don't know how many players I have in the entire organization. I could count them if that is necessary.

I thought having only 38 players on the 40 man roster would be sufficient to sign a free agent.

Do I need to release a player from the 25 man roster to sign the free agent? That to me doesn't seem right. Is it a bug in The Show 10?

You can only have 90 players signed in the organization. Doesnt matter how many players are on the 40 man roster.

I just got past the draft and after i signed my picks i noticed that i drafted a starting pitcher who can also play 1B, 3B, SS, LF, RF. Has anybody else had this kind of player before?? Just curious if this is a common thing or not.

Re: MLB 15 Franchise Progress Thread

Just began my first serious franchise (I've done a few drafts for fun and I have a season going that I use mostly for training purposes). I am using the full minors roster and I chose the Mets (been a fan since I saw my first game at age 2, been to over 300 games at Shae alone). I decided to do a fantasy draft so I began with that a couple of hours ago, I think it went reasonably well although their were a few positions that seemed to get completely wiped out over the course of when round and I found myself scrambling for decent picks during a couple instances around rounds 25-35. Ended up with a very young and versatile roster, that being said although I did end up with a plethora of great looking prospects, I seem to be lacking in current superstar talent. What I do have comes in the form of the one and only Bryce Harper(taken with my second round pick), a very late round acquisition of veteran A-lister Alex Rodriguez and my first round selection, power hitting center fielder Carlos Gomez. My Mets pitching rotation is where the unbalanced results of drafting young hot shot prospects in early rounds is most striking. Although it has been confirmed Anibal Sanchez will start, with young gun Zach Wheeler in the number 2 spot, the rest of the rotation is undecided as spring training has turned into a competitive pitching try out of sorts as a few veteran (yet out of the spotlight) pitchers battle it out against early twenties prospects attempting to push themselves into the big leagues for the remaining three spots. Along with a couple of similar battles are ensuing between a few of the similarly talented position players on the team but possibly the most important contest of the coming weeks will be between closing pitchers T. Rosenthal and Koji Uehara for that convicted clinch spot in the bull pen. I plan on playing spring training games myself until the lineup is solidified at which point I will sim to the regular season. I will be posting weekly (?) update videos, the first one of which will cover at least spring training, if not game one as well. Thanks guys, really loving the game so far. Such a great community.

Man, I was up 4-1 in Game 6 vs the Marlins. In the bottom of the 9th they start to Rally back. One of their guys hits a ball in the LF/CF gap, Dee Gordon scores. Ellsbury targets it and then when it lands he trots towards it, makes it a double. Next guy up hits a grounder to third and Headley does that animation where the defender drops down and tries to scoop it but misses. They PH and Roth blasts a 3 R HR to win the series.

Pretty sick after that loss, but really excited to grind out the off season and try it again next year.

Boy oh boy. Playing with a mediocre game is humbling.

I'm running a Padres Franchise and I'm finding the most creative ways to lose.

Sitting at 5-9 right now. Yikes.

Kemp and Alonso are tearing the cover off the ball. Justin Upton is playing well too up until my last two games.

But Will Middlebrooks has been hitting 5th for me and he's batting well under .200. That stops tonight. Solarte has been hitting well off the bench and he's rated better than Middlebrooks anyway. Welcome to the lineup.

I need to score some runs!

Ok so there are plenty of player progression threads but I'd like to get a response from people who play franchise mode and are familiar with the ins and outs.

Does anyone have an acceptable strategy for minimizing the effects of the ludicrous pitcher progression in this game mode?

A few years down the line, every team has amazing rotations like the Braves of the early 90's.

I've resorted to editing incoming drafted pitchers by -10 on their potentials but the performance progression still progresses players too often and 10 years in the future, most teams have loads of B potential players that make for good MLB starters. I'm talking like 8 pitchers per team that could serve as at least a #3 man in a MLb rotation.

Any ideas on hos this can be fixed?

I can't seem to shake this terrible losing pattern. I've lost the last 4 series now dropping to .500 on the season at 9-9. Last 4 series have gone L, W, L. At least I haven't been swept. Final 4 games of the month coming up...

Perhaps.... minimize the amount of A potential pitchers......edit most down to B's and C's to keep their progression in check some.
                            Hopefully they switch things up....
I haven't really tested it out as far as 8-10 years of sims...multiple times. Just thinking off the top of my head right now.

I haven't really tested it out as far as 8-10 years of sims...multiple times. Just thinking off the top of my head right now.

Yeah, I've been recently following the other thread where they're trying to find a formula for reducing overalls. But this method almost feels like it would be easier to implement. Just come up with a number of A/B/C/D pitchers allowed in the league in any given season.

It shouldn't be that hard to calculate the 2015 amounts, and then to cap them off yourself with each incoming draft class based on 2015 being a median. Maybe some years allow more, some years allow less.

12-12 through 1 month. Sitting 3rd. 3.5 games behind Detroit for 1st place. Our offense aside from 2 or 3 guys has been terrible. Hosmer, Moose, Salvy, Morales and Infante are all hitting under .225. Hosmer and Moose are under .200. Cain and Escobar are in the .240s. The only guys hitting worth a damn are Dyson and Gordon. Dyson is at .289 with a .344 OBP and leads the AL with 9 steals. And Gordon is making that 60 million dollar contract look good. Leading the team with a .330 AVG, 6 HR and 18 RBI.

Pitching and defense has been pretty good. We are 8th with a 3.12 ERA. And the least errors. Vargas and Duff both have ERAs under 2.00. Volquez has been terrible so far. 7.16 ERA with 20 walks compare to 18 K's. Bullpen has been good as well. Herrera, Madson, Coleman, Hochevar and Holland all have ERA's under 2.20. Madson and Coleman havent given up a run yet. Only 7.1 IP combined though.

In AAA, Fernando Gomez our 4th round pick last year is hitting .318. and tied for the team lead with 10 RBI. He could push for time at DH. He isnt capable of playing any position right now. Paulo Orlando is hitting .348. Cain has been hitting better the last week so there wouldnt be much room for Orlando to come up if he continues to get better. Whit Merrifield is hitting .359. Infante hasnt been crap so he cold easily see time at 2B. Sean Manea is 3-1 with a 0.99 ERA. Kyle Zimmer has been pretty bad. 1-4 with a 7.56 ERA.

In AA, Micah Sierra an off season pick up is hitting .371 with a .533 AVG vs LHP. Last year i drafted a guy named Jackson Yates who was a beast for me. Made him in Madden and remade him for MLB 15 before i started my franchise and left him in single A all last year. Ill leave him in AA this year and AAA next year before calling him up. Doesnt do any one thing that great but is a solid all around player than can play every position except catcher. He is hitting .446 with 3 HR and 10 SB though 20 games. Foster Griffin. 1st round pick in 2014 has a 2.66 ERA through 4 starts.
