Re: MLB 15 Franchise Progress Thread

I'm excited to report I have finally finished Spring Training. Lost the last 4 in a row to finish 12-16. I'm ready to dive into the regular season!

Re: MLB 15 Franchise Progress Thread

Im in a bit of a predicament. I carried over my red sox chise that started on the 1st day of ST in 2014. I played through ST, i made most of my equipment edits, and i edited the names of the removed players. Last night i went to advance to the regular season, and the schedule shows me playing the phillies (2015 opening day opponent) instead of the orioles (2014 OD opponent). Now here is where i am unsure. Should i A) play this one with the wrong schedule or B) i found a save that is on opening day 2014 and the schedule is correct, but i would have to go do my equipment edits and approximately 90 name edits before playing....looking for help please! Thanks

You are probably correct. Its very tedious, but ultimately I will have the right schedule, and once I do the equipment edits and the removed players' name edits then everything will be good to go. Thanks

Re: MLB 15 Franchise Progress Thread

I may be biting off more than I can chew, but I've recently started a franchise with the Marlins, Pirates, and Yankees. I also have a carry forward from '14 with the Padres and A's and at some point I may begin one with the Cubs and Astros. I'll focus on one at a time and right now it's the Yankees/Pirates/Marlins. The plan is to play at least every other game with the Yankees and every fourth game with the Marlins and Pirates.

I'll do the previews one at a time, so here are the Pirates (thanks to HozAndMoose for inspiring this template).

            Team Breakdown
            Spoiler

            MLB Preview
While there isn't a single player older than 29 in the starting lineup, there's an expectation that they will compete for the NL Central this year. Marte, McCutchen, and Harrison pack a good punch at the top of the lineup while Walker and Alvarez round out the top 5 quite nicely. New acquisition Jung-Ho Kang and the youngster Gregory Polanco will have the opportunity to contribute as well, their success or failure this year could have a significant impact on the course of the team. Cervelli will start at catcher, although it's no secret that the front office is open to any opportunity to improve the position. The bench, much like the starting lineup, is rather RH heavy, but they do provide some nice flexibility. Other than Mercer at SS, however, none are really equipped to step in for any significant amount of time. If any starters fall to injury the Pirates may have to go outside the organization for someone to fill in.

The rotation is led by young right-hander Gerrit Cole. Liriano and Burnett add veteran experience while Locke and Worley round out the starting five. Overall it's not a bad group, but the group is prone to some inconsistency. Don't be too surprised if the rotation looks a bit different at the end of the season, either due to call-ups or trades. The bullpen is strong at the back end with Watson and Melancon. The big question will be who can step up to be a consistent force in the middle innings.

            Farm System
The jewel of the farm system is Tyler Glasnow, the young phenom with the electric heater and plus curve. Last year he destroyed the competition in High-A and will begin 2015 in AA. The team wants to take its time with his development, but he could get a cup of coffee with AAA if he dominates AA hitting. Jameson Taillon (recovering from Tommy John) and Nick Kingham are two other righties who could see time in the majors as soon as this season.

Austin Meadows is the top position prospect in the organization, but he won't turn 20 until May and will begin the year in Single-A. His sweet left-handed swing promises great things to come, but it could be a few years before he makes his way to the majors. Fortunately the Pirates are pretty set at OF for now. Josh Bell, Reese McGuire, and Alen Hanson are the other top position prospects. Hanson and Bell are probably a year or two away, there's currently no rush to get them up before they're ready. McGuire could be called the catcher of the future, but that future is still several years away.

            Expectations
The NL Central is a tough division, but the pressure is on the Pirates to perform. If they can avoid injury, the offense should be a strength pretty much from top to bottom. The bigger questions are in the back of the rotation and the bullpen. If Liriano can be a solid #2 and the rest of the rotation can at least be decent on a consistent basis, this team should be able to at least compete for a Wildcard spot.

Re: MLB 15 Franchise Progress Thread

We have reached the All Star break! One more big trade so far, but I'll explain that in a little bit. The players that made the All Star game from our Red Sox are as follows:

              Koji Uehara and Dustin Pedroia

Two All Stars? Not bad… I was hoping to see Hanley in there, but he hasn't had the best season so far. Anyway, big trade went down on June 20! The Red Sox bolstered their lineup once again!

The Red Sox sent 31 year old RF Nick Markakis, 18 year old 2B Wendell Rijo, and 22 year old SP Luis Diaz to the San Diego Padres in exchange for 30 year old RF Matt Kemp and 23 year old RP Adys Portillo.

Kemp is a far better player than Markakis and has much more power than him. Our lineup now looks like this.

              1. Mookie Betts CF
              2. Dustin Pedroia 2B
              3. David Ortiz DH
              4. Matt Kemp RF
              5. Hanley Ramirez LF
              6. Pablo Sandoval 3B
              7. Mike Napoli 1B
              8. Mike Zunino C
              9. Xander Bogaerts SS

Feel free to let me know if I should switch around this lineup, but I think it has been working out well.

Moving on… At the All Star break we are 56-33 and first place in the AL East. The Yankees are behind us by 9.5 games with a record of 46-42. Im thinking of trades I could make before the trade deadline, but I'm satisfied with my team as it is. Our top 5 prospects (in no particular order) are as follows:

Byron Buxton CF 21 years old, 81 overall, A potential
Yoan Moncada 2B 19 years old, 80 overall, A potential
Henry Owens SP 21 years old, 76 overall, A potential
Miguel Sano 3B 21 years old, 74 overall, A potential
Blake Swihart C 22 years old, 67 overall, A potential

For anyone wondering how I got Buxton and Sano, please look back a couple of comments to see my previous posts.

I'd like some suggestions on possible targets I should trade for. I don't see really any gaps in our lineup. I don't want to trade for an ace because I'm satisfied with my rotation. If there are any guys, or prospect, you guys think I should target before the trade deadline let me know! I plan on advance past the trade deadline tomorrow, so you have until then to let me know.

Started 19-2 and am now 23-12. Just got swept by the Twinkies. Miguel Cabrera, after a monster start that had him over .370 with 9 HR and 25 RBI now sits at .270 with 9 HR and 25 RBI. That about sums up what's been happening lately. Painful, let me tell you.

Re: MLB 15 Franchise Progress Thread

Just finished my season opening series as the Pirates against the Reds with a sweep..

                    Game 1
                    Pirates 5 10 0
                    Reds. 4 10 1

Cervelli hit a game winning homerun in the top of the 9th and our closer shut them down for the win!

                    Game 2
                    Pirates. 5 11 0
                    Reds. 0. 5 0

Team combined shut out as we used 5 pitchers in this game. The no DH rule is cussing it but I'm loving every minute of it. All runs coming via long ball as we hit 5 homeruns in the game.

                    Game 3
                    Pirates. 8 10 0
                    Red. 5 11 1

Continuing to utilize the bullpen but again the long ball is coming along as we have hit a league leading 9 homeruns in this series.

We are now onto Milawuakee with a three game series with the Brew Crew, who ironically are 2nd in the league with 6 Homeruns, should be a very offensive series. I'm using dynamic difficulty and on veteran + on both hitting and pitching... Plays really well, the homers seem high but we will see how that goes as we move forward...

The bullpen has pitched 11 innings and have only given up 2 runs so far.

Re: MLB 15 Franchise Progress Thread

So I simulated a little further and just got so into in that I completely forgot to update you. At the trade deadline we trades Justin Masterson and a couple other players to the Reds for Mike Leake. I thought this was an amazing trade and was surprised I was able to pull it off.

We ended up coming in 1st place in the AL East and the playoffs began. We played against the Yankees in the ALDS and beat them in 4 games. Next up were the White Sox in the ALCS and we were able to beat them with a walk off in game 7! The World Series… It has come down to this… The Boston Red Sox against the Los Angeles Dodgers. I wish I could remember what the exact scores were, but we beat them in 6 games to win the World Series. The season and post season awards are as follows (it would take me too much time to include the gold glove winners and silver sluggers):

                          AL
                          MVP: Miguel Cabrera
                          CY Young: Chris Sale
                          Batting Title: Joe Mauer
Reliever of the Year: Fernando Rodney
Rookie of the Year: Daniel Norris
                          Hank Aaron: Jose Bautista

                          NL
                          MVP: Ryan Braun
                          Cy Young: Clayton Kershaw (Again…)
                          Batting Title: Daniel Murphy
Reliever of the Year: Trevor Rosenthal
Rookie of the Year: Jorge Soler
                          Hank Aaron: Paul Goldschmidt

We did not pick up anyone of relevance in free agency, except for so young prospects with C-B potentials. We qualified Clay Buchholz and he signed with the Dodgers (traitor…..) so we got an extra draft pick for that. David Ortiz retired and was elected to the Hall of Fame by hitting over 500 HRs in his career. We picked up 3 players in the rule 5 draft. 29 year old SP Ivan Nova (76 overall), 27 year old RP Jeff Walters (72 overall), and 24 year old RP Dominic Leone (74 overall). This three will be great additions to our pitching staff and the addition of Nova will give Henry Owens another year to improve in AAA.

I am 5 games into the 2016 season and this what our rotation and lineup looks like:

                          SP - Wade Miley 81
                          SP - Rick Porcello 79
                          SP - Mike Leake 79
                          SP - Joe Kelly 77
                          SP - Ivan Nova 76

                          C: Mike Zunino 79
1B: Allen Craig 73 and Mike Napoli 72
                          2B: Dustin Pedroia 93
                          3B: Pablo Sandoval 85
                          SS: Zander Bogaerts 80
                          LF: Hanley Ramirez 86
                          CF: Mookie Betts 82
                          RF: Matt Kemp 84

Our top prospects are as follows (in not particular order):

                          CF - 22 years old - Byron Buxton - 83 overall - A potential
                          2B - 20 years old - Yoan Moncada - 83 overall - A potential
                          SP - 22 years old - Henry Owens - 79 overall - A potential
                          3B - 22 years old - Miguel Sano - 77 overall - A potential
                          2B - 20 years old - Jamaal Cheek - 75 overall - B potential
                          1B - 20 years old - Juan Dias - 72 overall - A potential
                          C - 23 years old - Blake Swihart - 69 overall - A potential

I hope that at the end of the season I get to call Dias up and have him be starting on opening day at 1B for me in 2017. Also, some might question why I have Betts at CF instead of Buxton. This is because Betts has been playing great and I want Buxton to further develop. I'll get some simulating done tonight and tomorrow and update you guys soon!

We have played pretty well since the all star break. 27-15 and have a 14 game lead over Detroit. 3 of the playoff teams are pretty much set already. I dont see anyway we, San Fran and the Yankees dont make the playoffs. The AL Wild Cards will be interesting. 2 teams tied for the 2nd spot. 3 teams within 2.5 games and another 3 within 5.5. The 1st NL Wild Card team is most likely gonna be Miami or Washington. And then probably 4 teams that have a chance to get the 2nd spot.

Pitching continues to carry the team. We still lead the majors with a 2.79 ERA. Jason Vargas, Yordano Ventura and Edison Volquez are a combined 33-23 with a 2.64 ERA. Danny Duffy is 13-8 with a 3.39 ERA. Chris Young and Jeremy Guthrie have been rotating starts the last month. Young is 7-2 with a 2.48 ERA. Has played in 18 games. 2 of those being starts. Guthrie is 11-6 with a 3.81 ERA in 24 games all but 1 were starts. Moved Medlen to the BP when Volquez returned from his injury. He wasnt doing so well starting so it was an easy decision.

Hitting overall is still doing alright. 7th in the league in runs. Least strikeouts. No single player is above AVG though. Infante has the highest AVg at .270. Eric Hosmer leads in runs with 61, doubles with 26 and RBI with 74. Kendrys Morales leads in home runs with 18.

Kyle Zimmer was well on his way to possibly contributing to the team in the playoffs. But suffered a shoulder tear in what would have been his last start for AAA. Sean Manea has looked good since moving to AAA. 4-3 with a 2.96 ERA.

Been waiting to start a fantasy draft franchise that I will carry over for many years. I will be my favorite team, the New York Mets

                              Lineup:

                              LF - Christian Yelich
                              SS - Troy Tulowitzki
                              3B - Kyle Seager
                              1B - Carlos Santana
                              C - Stephen Vogt
                              RF - Wil Myers
                              CF - Juan Lagares
                              2B - Joe Panik

                              SP - Gerrit Cole
                              SP - Michael Wacha
                              SP - Patrick Corbin
                              SP - Matt Moore
                              SP - Trevor Bauer

                              CP - Koji Uehara
                              RP - Brad Boxberger
                              RP - Kelvin Herrera
                              RP - Josh Fields
                              RP - Kevin Gausman
                              RP - Paco Rodriguez
                              RP - Anthony Varvarro
                              RP - Shae Simmons

I'm still waiting to start up the season after a little more slider testing... but I like the composition of my roster, and am excited to get started

Good to see the Yankees running the table in your league there. I remember you had quite a few close calls when it comes to getting over the hump in 14 the Show. Hopefully you have some better luck this year.
