Yeah, I would say that many of the mechanics in this game could be explained better, maybe in a tutorial video inside the game. I think it's covered in the in-game strategy guide but reading text only goes so far (plus not many people will do it anyway).

I know they broke this down in pre-release videos the year they introduced this kind of landing marker, but that was years ago.

Although I don't consider that a routine fly ball, the marker seemed to bug out due to the landing spot being toward the top of the wall.

I'm not sure what to make of it.
Do it. (Release The Show for PC)

Relax. Not one person has said you suck at the game.

You're allowed to be frustrated, you're allowed to post about it. Just use a little more tact with your posts.

Let me ask a constructive question.

For all the people who aren't happy about how this game mechanic works (and the results of plays like the OP's), how would you like to see it done while still being able to distinguish good outfielders from bad ones? If the marker gives an exact landing location every time (or follows the same path), there is no differentiation between higher or lower rated fielders from the user's perspective - because it's just running from point A to point B.

It's harder online with lag at times. I wish they'd give us the option for auto fielding online.

THE GAME SHOULD NOT BE DECIDING IF A ROUTINE FLY BALL SHOULD BE CAUGHT OR NOT!!!
First off...It's a 2-all game with 2 guys on and a 3-2 count and you throw a concrete mixer to home plate. It's never "one" play that costs you the game but rather several actions that lead up to it -- that's the beauty of baseball.

More to the point, the degree that the ball-catch indicator moved is fairly substantial so that's quite interesting to me. I say you should move to auto-fielding...your frustration is the exact reason I switched.

This has happened to me also.

Not what the OP is describing though... only this line drive thing right here. And it's pretty rare. I havent been counting but I'd say it has happened to me about 3-5 times... total, this year, thus far.

Errors happen on routine easy pop fly's and fly balls, and routine grounders, routine throws.

That's the simulation aspect and the beauty of this game.

Do MLB players catch every single ball IRL?

                      Ahhhhh no.

Last night....playing a league online franchise game. A simple routine fly ball was hit and Brett Garnder was under it.....and it popped right out of his glove.

                      I smiled.

                      That's baseball.

No no no, this is NOT simulation, this is pathetic, if it happened say once in literally 20-25 games, sure. this and 2nd basemen throwing poorly to 1st on routiners are just flat out wrong. Its not slow pitch or 12 year old kids this "sim" is of Major Leaguers

Errors on default are a problem. I can easily acknowledge this as I have tuned them down substanially with the error sliders.

Since I did that. Vs the CPU errors are highly realistic on auto fielding.

Online things are hit and miss due to variables like lag and latency and of course human error with the sticks does happen.

I have used assisted fielding offline to test the sliders as well and feel the settings I use are far better than what they are on default.

But IMO fielding has never...ever been better in this series history then on MLB 15. It is far more smoother and immersive then ever before. I thought they made meaningful strides towards more user control than ever before.

I am having a blast playing the field this year in online franchise/diamond dynasty. Have I had WTF moments? No question. Have I had some frustration with some wonky errors? yeah no doubt.

But it still is a huge improvement of past iterations of the game.

I know the devs wanted to make fielding in the outfield more challenging this year and not "lock you in" to catches too early, but I think they might have gone a little too far in that direction. Next year I'd like to see a middle ground between 14 and 15. Because there are too many outfield errors in this game. Coming from someone who played 6 years of RTTS as a CF on last years game, I've already made more errors in half a season this year than I did in my last 2 seasons combined on MLB 14. And this is when I can actually see the ball, unlike in a broadcast viewing angle. I can't tell you how many times I've ran to the exact spot, watched the ball come down... and fall right at my feet as I make a weird lunging attempt at it. I'm completely in the spot the game told me to be in, there are no green arrows telling me to take a step or 2 forward. I have 99 fielding rating. This tells me a problem, because its not an issue where "ohh the fielders rating said to be in the wrong spot because he can't read fly balls as well as an elite guy."

I'd love for them to add a strafe or "precision" button for the outfield, because most of the problems happen when you are trying to make a small, 1 or 2 step adjustment and you overrun the ball.

Put me in the camp of the folks who are not having trouble with fielding. I've had a couple of those "lunging" outfield errors, but they've all been self-created. It almost always happens to me when I'm trying to adjust the fielder late in the catch.

This is exactly what I'm talking about. I'm glad at least someone here gets it. The ball sometimes doesn't land where it tells you it will, no matter what your outfielder's fielding skill level is. In my video it happened at the wall, and sometimes it happens in the middle of the outfield.
