I understand your frustrations, but that really was not a routine fly. You also did not take the best route, but yeah most center fielders catch that.

Good explanation but on a side note, boy...that's a great example of batter swing delay and timing issues.

Routine catch for maybe a 90+ fielder that ball was smashed to the wall and if you follow the ball shadow the ball goes right to where it should.

The ball land marker is off but your player looks like he never locates the ball very well, plus you slam him into the wall. At 38 seconds during the replay it shows you guy never located the ball very well.

Not sure why the marker is that far off to start but it may be a thing that has to do with balls that are going to hit off the wall or sneak over for an HR. That ball was smashed...I'd feel very lucky if I made the play on that.

          This is my $0.02...

I have played every console baseball game since the Sega Genesis, so I consider myself fairly knowledgable of how to field a game of video game baseball. I'm 22 games into my Nationals franchise and here are the OF error numbers so far:

          Harper - 3
          Span - 4
          Werth - 5
          McLouth - 2

My infielders have combined for 9.

Something is definitely different for the worse this year.

Yes the error sliders need to be lowered. Thats it.

Not that this would be a solution, just a curious suggestion I suppose but would manual catching improve this at all? I've never used it myself but was wondering if it would decrease the number of balls dropped.

Great video! I think one of the more important points is the routes taken. Hook routes and getting behind fly balls are crucial, just as in real life.

In the OP, was an example of a guy going all out, and not really 'locating' the ball. I definitely would not classify that as routine. A lot of my first moves in the OF are back, to avoid that scenario.

Consider yourself lucky you don't have more infield errors. Ian Desmond alone is approaching nine errors (maybe he already has, I'm behind a little.) We're (Nats) drenched in errors this season.

No kidding. I'm pretty sure the first week of the season Desmond led the team in ERA (I know that doesn't make any sense by definition, but you get what I'm saying). He still might actually... lol

Think that's bad? As a Shortstop in MLB 11 for the PSP -- I don't know if this still happens -- the game would literally stop you from catching routine grounders. It would stop you in your tracks just before you caught it, and you'd just stand there as it went right past you.

Similar stuff would happen on double plays as a shortstop. 2nd baseman catches it, I'm on my way to 2nd, 2nd baseman makes a quick flip -- and my guys stops halfway to 2nd base to catch it, one or both runners are safe.

So, it happened to me again today. This time in the middle of the outfield, with upper 80's fielding rating Hunter Pence, after the game had taken over the catch animation. This is the other thing that happens, a player is in the ball marker then does the "falling over" animation and the ball goes by them. It wasn't my playing ability or a bad route, it was a catchable ball, that even with my fielding error sliders all the way down resulted in an error... with Hunter Pence.

Go ahead and come up with your own dumb excuses why I didn't catch it but here is proof, once again:
