Since I have started playing(which was MLB 12) I have a seen a few things cut that I felt added realism and immersion. Or things tweaked and changed that I feel have made the game worse.

    - Signs from 3rd Base Coach, asking you to steal a base, or lay down a bunt was removed. You were actually punished and benched for stealing when you were told not too, or being caught too many times.

    - The way the Timing Window was changed and widened from 12-13 that introduced a weird floaty effect that has been there ever since. Hitting just hasn't felt right since the change.

    - The numerous cuts to broadcast mode, especially in RTTS and Batter walk-ups. Constantly being warped back into the batters box during an at-bat. Probably the most annoying this they have done since I started playing.

    - And yes the Stride being removed, which I've noticed causes other issues. Not pulling back on the stick, gives you less room to stop a swing and hold up on something you do not want to swing at. There is less movement to cover with the stick so checking has become more difficult. Also the load up helped alot with timing(for me anyway). The loading up just felt natural and real to me.

    I'm sure I have forgotten 1 or 2 things.

I just feel realism is being sacrificed too much to make the game easier, and not actually making it a better game.

I was first attracted to The Show and it is the only Sports game I own and purchase yearly, because of the challenge and realism of it. But each year it feels like the reason I started playing is slowly being chipped away, and replaced with casual pandering, or gimmicks.

That was a pain in the ace because most of the time they'd jump on you for "stealing without permission" when you failed to reach on botched hit & runs. I believe this was most noticeable in 09. If that were fixed, I'd welcome it back.

Pretty sure they would only ever take the green light away from you if you repeatedly failed to swipe a base in 12. And I don't believe you were actually benched unless you continued to steal without them asking.

Don't think you were actuall punished for failed attempts that they called for themselves.

At least that's how I remember it.

I've just come to expect the same content year in and year out..I expect to hear Vasgersian say "Thus far" 50 times per game...I expect the same collision detection...I expect well..the same..

I play season only and the game hasn't changed much in that mode for years..As for perks and other crutches, they are an excuse for a game maker to charge you microtransactions later down the road..

Yikes this thread exploded. I've always seen RttS as a way to ease in to the mechanics for new comers, a way to make a game with a VERY steep learning curve a little more enticing to the novice. I mean, people were probably dumping on RttS for the same reasons (makes the game more arcade like, panders to new players) when it came out.

Its very understandable why perks and showtime have been added, both as a way to entice more new players and to add more of an RPG element to RttS. I'm all for it. There also seems to be a cost/benefit transaction happening with the perks and showtime, and we don't know what exactly that entails. Perhaps it eats into the potential training points one can earn in a game.

My point is, there seems to be a lot of negativity coming out of what for now is just supposition. Give it a chance. You might like it.

There's nothing to buy in the new ShowTime or Perks features., Microtransactions aren't a park of ShowTime or Perks So........................ there's that.

I'm sure the developers are smart enough to know franchise mode players and especially manage mode users like myself want realism.
Exactly, if you know the game and how it works then you'll use franchise and if you're just starting out (usually kids) then use RTTS first. So I'm all for it being a little arcady.

I don't think its just about the Rtts additions. I think people are getting a general feeling based on several factors.
                  - No fact sheet as normal
                  - A lot of the info coming out of the twitter questions are "no" answers.
                  - The first taste of info that was to an extent "hyped" turned out to be an announcement of other announcements and some underwhelming additions.
                  - Things like replay/jersey slots already confirmed as to not being improved.

However a lot of the new additions look to be very promising.

                  - Improved play by play
                  - PBR
                  - Sounds of the Show
                  - Franchise improvements
                  - Presentation improvements
                  - Closed roof stadiums
                  - Umpire personalities
                  - Player uniqueness

So while there have already been some disappointments for some. Each of us have our own opinions about what should or shouldn't be added. We all need more info before we can know for sure our opinion of this years game.
The positive additions that have yet to be elaborated on may very well negate the disappointments. It's wait and see at this point.

Again, aside from the stride I wouldn't really call any of those "hardcore" and would also add that their respective changes/removal is more the normal evolution of a longstanding video game franchise than an indication of some steady shift in direction or philosophy. I'm not saying you have to like the changes because of that, I'm only saying they aren't particularly telling overall.

If you had played the game prior to 12, you'd understand the irony of you claiming the changes in hitting are indicative of a directional shift. Hitting has undergone the most consistent, sometimes dramatic, and often controversial changes throughout the series history.

In fact, there are some who felt it was at it's best/most challenging in 09 and others who felt 09 was too punishing a shift from the more approachable 08 (which some felt "ruined" the hardcore feel of 07). As I recall, some said 12 or 13 "ruined" what worked in 10 and 11, while others said SCEA "finally" got it right...and that's just on OS (not even diving onto what "casuals" may or may not have thought). The point being that every year there are changes to the hitting and every year some people feel SCEA changed too much one way or the other.

To be clear, I'm not telling you that you shouldn't be disappointed (I would think that should be obvious, but sensitivities tend to run high around game releases..lol). And, for what it's worth, I share your disappointment on some of the things that have been changed/removed (the presentational cuts being chief among them. They definitely hampered my experience last year compared to others...to the point of being distracting with how sudden and disjointed some things became). It's just the "it's no longer sim/hardcore" argument being generated since these perks have been announced just seems a bit dramatic to me is all.

There were too many balls in the dirt on hit-and-run attempts which would lead to you being hung out to dry as a runner. If failed repeatedly (which was the case for me, as my guy was slooooow), it would count as too many unauthorized steals. I don't recall being benched, but I definitely had my green light taken away because of botched hit-and-runs.

yeah, I was about to say I can't ever recall having to buy anything other than the game itself. And I guess in your case Knight some times you didn't even need to buy the game.
