That is one fun team to play with. Serious fun. I think they are going back to the WS yet again. They are just a terrific ball club and still young. Moose and Hos, Cain and Salvador....all coming into their prime years. Super solid pitching and we all know the bullpen. Speed at the top and bottom with Escobar and Dyson. Really love playing with them other than the Yankees.

Never played them, but I know I loved watching them play in the WS last year.

I might have to play them. They are the kind of team I like.

I'm going to stick with MIN. I thought about BAL for a bit but decided I just need to stick with my initial choice.

Add in good uniforms and a nice stadium, too. They're definitely a contender, if I switch. Doesn't hurt that Cain was my big trade acquisition in 15.

I always feel guilty not using my teams, but sometimes you need that break. I did an Indians one years ago and it was a lot of fun in large part because I wasn't as connected to the team as I am IRL.

Cardinals got back on a winning streak after a walkoff win vs the Reds at Busch stadium.

Right now, biggest "concern" (really too early for all that) is production at 1B. Moss is hitting .176 while Adams isn't doing much better at .212.

            I hear that.

It's like when I used to play Madden. I couldn't take Flacco in real life AND Flacco in video game life. Just no.

Played other teams I liked instead and are struggling. At least I can blow up the teams and not feel too bad because they are (re)building anyway.

The Marlins complete the sweep of the Braves after the wild extra innings affair to start the series.

Game 2 was a tight game as well with Moses Bartlett making his first start since returning from the DL. It was a solid effort, allowing 3 runs (2 earned) on 7 hits in 6 innings. The bullpen held the one-run lead the rest of the way, giving the Marlins a 4-3 win. Leone picked up save #25.

Game 3 was dominated by Boeve. He struck out "only" nine batters through 8 innings, but carried a no-hitter through the 7th inning and left allowing just 1 hit and 2 walks. The offense did the rest, led by Harper with 2 HR, to win 6-0. The Braves did load the bases in the 9th against Rule 5 acquisition Michael Mader. Braves 3B Jagielo JUST got under a fastball and hit a deep drive to right that pushed Harper to the track, but settled in his glove for the final out.

Since starting the month 4-8, the team has pulled their July record to 8-8. The Mets are matching these wins until the finale, however. So the Marlins extend the lead by just one game to 7 games.

They close out the month with a home stand where they will host the Rockies, Diamondbacks, and then the Braves - so perhaps a chance to keep the roll going.

lost game 2 of 3 game set with the Reds. Wainwright just didn't have it today and struggled through 5 innings of work. Our bats were quiet until late where we managed 3 runs in the 9th, but we lost 7-3. Hopefully we can win the rubber match of the series with Wacha on the mound.

Re: MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread

The Marlins will be happy to put July behind them.

Coming home with a four game win streak ended up not helping as the team went 4-5 to close July. The best they can do is split the home stand to start August with a win.

This inconsistency is keeping the Marlins from putting things further under wraps. The Mets are still just 6 back, and the Marlins are lucky they haven't put together a long win streak of their own.

                  Trade Talks Never Happened

There was some thought that the Marlins would shop some players, especially the disgruntled duo of Matt Stites and Chris Taylor. As it turns out, nothing happened and Marlins ended up staying pat.

                  Chris Taylor Returns

The Marlins not only didn't trade Taylor, they recalled him from AAA. Les Carlyle was optioned back to AAA as he played hard but still looked raw at the plate.

Taylor might have worked out the kinks, batting .340 in AAA, but he'll have to wait until Tim Anderson cools down. Anderson has made the most of his opportunity, batting around .270 with consistent gap power and some stolen bases. At one point, Anderson was riding a 13-game hitting streak as well.

                  Performance Update

The Marlins went 12-13 in August and are currently on a 3-game losing streak.

However, that's no fault of Chris Davis' as he's now up to 26 HR on the season. Platoon partner Russell Parrott has destroyed lefty pitching to the tune of a .418 average with power as all 9 of his HR have come against left-handed pitching.

Bo Winter might be feeling the dog days as he's cooled down significantly in July. He's still having a fine season, so there's not much worry just yet. Scouts aren't worried either - they continue to gush over his upside.

The team is concerned about Stan Brito, however. The consistency continues to elude the young slugger. When he's on, he shows why the team is high on him. But when it's not working, it's ugly. Right now, it's been ugly as his average has dropped under .220.

On the farm, Chet Doyle continues to make noise. He batted over .350 in July as he's making a push up the team's prospect chart. There's no room for him right now at 1B so he might make for some trade bait this offseason.

The Jays are currently 1.5 games back of a wild card spot in the AL at the end of July. It's 1 day before the trade deadline and the Jays have some questions.

The have won 5 of their last 7 and are not far out. They have called up newly acquired Dan Vogelbach after he mashed AAA in the month of July. He has been doing well hitting .312 with 3 RBI in his first week of action taking over 1B full time. Chris Colabelo has moved to LF and continues to get every day starts due to his strong season.

Josh Hamilton has been atrocious hitting .195 on the year and cannot get anything going. He's found his way to the bench and Almonte is getting backup OF starts over him.

The pitching has been decent. Stroman, Cashner, Estrada, Hutchinson and Chavez are the starters and have been doing relatively well. The bullpen has been the stronger part of the team this year. Storen has a league leading 34 saves and Osuna/Cecil have been great as setup men. The bullpen has been transformed due ti Sanchez and Happ both moving to the pen and having great success. The final 2 spots have been bounce back candidate Vic Black who had been a K machine and Bo Schultz who has also pitched well. Donaldson/Bautista and Edwin are taking with 19, 22 and 24 homer respectively. Pillar is still batting lead off with a .282 average on the year. Tulo is batting .297, Colabello .278 and Martin .254. Devon Travis has struggled since returning from the DL only hitting .242 with no homers.

The Jays are pondering a deal that would bring Charlie Blackmon to help with a playoff run. The Rockies are in last by a mile and Blackmon has hit .249 with 6 homers and 10 steals. The question is do the Jays need him. He would bring much improved defence to LF for the Jays and some speed and contact as a potential lead off man. However, Colabello has been hitting well but his defence has been terrible as a LF. He could platoon with Vogelbach and backup LF/RF. The Jays have Michael Saunders returning hopefully in September. He was doing well before hitting the DL but that might be too late for the Jays.

Do the Jays go all in for Blackmon and likely their last season with Bautista and Edwin or do they stay put hope for a run and re-evaluate things in August (advice is welcomed lol)??

Go get him. If you need a bat and have the pieces to trade - bring him on. Sounds like you like his overall game and what he could do for your squad.

Yea my offence has been extra base hit or bust. I haven't been able to string a lot of hits together. Also my LF has given up 18 total errors already this season. My leaders in stolen bases are Pilar with 9 and Travis with 8. Blackmon brings speed, contact as a lead off bat and much better defence in LF.

I would likely have to give Nay and Tellez to get him, but I feel I have enough in my farm to get by the next couple years. I also would have to send Josh Hamilton and his contract to AAA or send Almonte who has been out producing Hamilton. Maybe I give Hamilton a month to try and figure out his game before a September recall. Maybe next year when Chi Chi is up I won't regret the Dickey trade as much haha.

I think I will do the deal. I will likely lose Bau and EE next year and I could try and resign Blackmon to a multi year deal in the offseason.

                          Thanks a lot!

Just lost Bryan Pena for the season due to a Dislocated Ankle. Called up Eric Fryer. Big blow as Pena was doing a decent job behind the plate handling our pitching staff even though his bat was quiet this April.
