Re: MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread

This is why I love the Show. Just when I think I have the game figured out, Kershaw and the Dodgers come to town and smack us 6-0. I may have broke an unwritten rule breaking up a no hitter in the 5th attempting a sac bunt.
    MLB the Show - Cubs
    2015: 80-82
2016: 96-66 - Lost Game 7 of WS (18 innings to Red Sox)
2017: 93-69 - Swept by Red Sox in World Series
2018: 100-62 - Swept by Dodgers in NLCS
    2019: 14-11

Astros enter the final game of a 4 game set with the Mariners with a 19-12 record on the season. They started the season on a high note at 7-1 and have 12-11 since that. The rotation has been shaky this season with some rough outings by Tyson Ross and Dallas Keuchel. Marwin Gonzalez has stepped up as of late and taken over the 3B from Luis Valbuena, who is now on the trade block and drawing some interest from Arizona and Atlanta. There have some thrillers in houston as of late including a 13-10 rally over the twins in which they rallied from a 9-2 deficit after a rough start by Tyson Ross and came back to win. Also Marwin gonzalez had a walk off two run homer two days ago to beat the mariners 2-1.

      Lineup
      2B Jose Altuve .341 AVG, 1 HR, 15 RBIs, 15 SBs
SS Carlos Correa .258 AVG, 3 HRs, 14 RBIs

RF George Springer .232 AVG, 3 HRs, 10 RBIs
DH Evan Gattis .287 AVG, 4 HRs, 11 RBIs
      C Johnathan Lucroy .280 AVG, 2 HRs, 14 RBIs
      LF Colby Rasmus .218 , 7 HRs, 13 RBIs
      1B Ben Paulsen .271 AVG, 4 HRs, 12 RBIs

Anyone having issues with player morale? all of my starters are showing bench on team role and are being downgraded because of it even though they are starting. Looked around the league and it's happening elsewhere also

                BREAKING CARDINALS NEWS

The Cardinals have just signed OF Alex Rios to a 1 yr $4M dollar deal this afternoon. To make room on the 40 man roster the Cardinals release Carlos Peguero who had been very unproductive at Memphis. Adding Rios to the 25 man active roster meant that highly touted prospect Magnerius Sierra was sent back down to Memphis. Mozeliak says that they haven't lost faith in the 19 year old Sierra just that they don't believe that he is ready for the pitching at the Major League level, and Sierra's 1 for 16 stat would prove that to be so.

The Cardinals needed help in the outfield as Sierra and Hazelbaker combined production in RF was .178. Rios is expected to start immediately and hit 2nd in the order behind Matt Carpenter.

Just began my chise with the Angels . I touched up Arrieta in the first game buoyed by 2 three rub dingers to Trout and Calhoun while Pujols chipped in with an RBI Single.

Arrieta pitched 3.2 innings giving up 7 er on 8 hits meanwhile Richards pitched 7 Inn of 1 run ball with 5 k's and 3 W's.

7-1 was the final. Light that Baby Up

Cardinals lose their first series of the year in Anaheim. The Cardinals dropped game 3 of the 3 game series with the Angels 6-3 as the Cardinals lose their first series of the season. Garrett Richards who made his season debut, shut down the Cardinals for 8 innings only being touched for a run on 3 hits. His foe in this game, Adam Wainwright, didn't fare as well giving up 5 runs on 11 hits over 6.2 innings.

Jeremy Hazelbaker hit his first major league homerun in the 8th as he homered off of Garrett Richards. Brandon Moss would add a 2 run homer in the 9th as he tagged his 7th off of Fernando Salas who came into to relieve Richards.

Alex Rios debut with the Cardinals was shaky at best. He did go 1 for 4 with a double but his misplay of a liner in the 4th allowed a Quintin Berry 2 out, 2 run triple to break a scoreless tie.

The Cardinals will stay in Los Angeles as they begin a 3 game tilt with the Dodgers.

The Jays have been on a roll. After beating the twins 3-1 they defeated the Yankees 2-1 and now have destroyed the As in game 1 11-3. They now sit 1.5 games ahead of the Tigers for the second wild card spot.

The team has made 1 minor league trade in August. They traded SP Miguel Gonzalez, OF/1B Tyler Moore and AA SS (C potential, 54 overall) to the Texas Rangers for 1b Ike Davis and 2 prospects (62 c potential SS and 63 c potential SP). The deal gives Texas some depth at starter after being hurt by the injury bug. They also trade a 1B depth piece for a guy who can play 1B and the OF. Both Moore and Davis have similar stats but the Rangers got a younger, more position eligible player.

The Jays get Davis to provide depth at 1B in case injury or inexperience strikes in the run to the playoffs. They like Davis as a more reliable option to Moore who was DFA by Washington earlier in the year. Davis was batting .263 with 12 homers at AAA for Texas.

Miguel Gonzalez had some success in the bigs this year but lost his spot when the Jays acquired Cashner. He was pitching to a 3.89 ERA in AAA.

To get the added depth they needed. It cost them a couple of low risk c prospects that will help replace some spots in the minor leagues which were lost from earlier traded by the Jays.

Back to the Jays run, Encarnacion has been on a tear. He has 7 homers in his last 6 games and has 32 on the year now (leads MLB). However, he tweaked his Groin in last game and is listed as day to day. A DL stint is not expected but he will likely sit out this series against Oakland and hopefully be back for next series against the Yankees. Josh Hamilton will take over as the DH until he returns.

                      Stay tuned!

Through August 17th of the 2017 season the Tampa Bay Rays are 81-39 and are second for the most wins in the MLB behind the L.A. Dodgers who are 83-38. The Rays don't really have to worry about the other three teams in the AL East right now since the closest team to them is 16 games behind them.

The Rays traded away Closer Brad Boxberger and got Daniel Webb in return. He's a year younger and has been playing pretty good for the organization.

Chris Archer is having a fantastic year and is in the hunt for the Cy Young award with a 17-5 record and 3.60 ERA. Closer Jonny Venters is leading the AL in Saves with 49. Longoria is hitting .234 with 13 HR's and 56 RBI's. Kevin Kiermaier is having a good season with a .292 Avg and 14 HR's 50 RBI's and 16 SB's.

Completed Game 2 of my opening series against the Cubs. The middle of the order came through big again with Trout hitting a three run shot in the first and Pujols followed with a solo shot.

Pujols went deep again for a 2 run shot in the 7th to extend the lead to 6-2.
The cubs loaded the bases in the 8th but Smith was bailed out by Alvarez and then Street conceded 1 in the 9th to end the game 6-3 in favour of the Halo's.

Heaney pinched 7 innings giving up 2 runs and striking out 4.

                            MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread

The Jays have gotten some bad news. They have lost LF Charlie Blackmon 1-2 months with a broken hand after diving back to first on a pick off attempt. Blackmon was becoming a very important piece leading off for this potent offence and now will be out the rest of the season and his status for a potential first round playoff is up in the air.

The blow was lessened however, when the team reported Michael Saunders would be activated from the DL. He had missed the last 2 months and will jump right back into the starting LF role. He had a good first game back going 2-4 with a home run in a win against the Phillies

In other news, the Jays sent 2B Devon Travis down to AAA for some work on his swing. In 208 at bats since returning from his shoulder issue, he has hit only .231 with no homers a 4 RBI. However, in his first 4 starts for AAA he is batting .353 with a homer and 4 RBI so his stay in AAA may be short lived.

Replacing Travis at 2b is the combination of Ryan Goins and Jose Fernandez. Goins is batting .233 in limited playing time while Fernandez it hitting .045 (1/22) since his promotion and will need to start hitting if he wants to stay in the majors.

The Jays now have 3 more series before September arrives and we should see more moves around that time!

                            Stay tuned!
