Inconsistency has been the theme for the 2016 Mariners so far. After a won on opening day, Seattle dropped to 3-3. Another win was followed by a 5 game span that saw their record rise to 6-6. Another win was followed by a similar 5 game run which put the Mariners at 9-9. Seattle stands at 9-9 heading into a series with Houston.

Re: MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread
Through the first 10 games in my Phillies Franchise we are 8-2 and on a 7 game winning streak. Phillies pitching has been nothing short of dominating. Just completed a 4 game sweep of the Padres that was laughable. 3 complete games in the series including a complete game 4 hit shutout with Jerad Eickhoff. The Padres struck out 34 times in the series and I outscored them 20-4!
The Phillies currently stand in 1st place in the NL East with a 2.5 game lead over the Nationals who are up next on the schedule. The pitching has been the big factor to this strong start to the season. Offense is doing just enough to get by showing some power with the long ball.
A few stats through the first 10 games:
Batting Average - .201 (29th in MLB)
Hits 70 (27th in MLB)
Doubles - 10 (T-27th in MLB)
Home Runs - 16 (T-1st in MLB)
Runs Batted In 34 - (20th in MLB)
Stolen Bases - 10 (T-2nd in MLB)
ERA - 1.44 (1st in MLB)
Hits Allowed - 60 (2nd in MLB)
Runs Allowed - 18 (1st in MLB)
Earned Runs - 16 (1st in MLB)
Base on Balls Allowed - 16 (1st in MLB)
Strikeouts - 81 (T-6th in MLB)
Having a blast so far with this strong start to the season. Enjoying the ride while it lasts. I have avoided the injury bug thus far as well. Knock on wood.Comment

Re: MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread
So I have a question regarding "teaching" a player a new position. How would you guys go about doing that, the way I was thinking is having a minimum of games you have to play them in that position before you can edit them and put it as there secondary or primary position. Has anyone else done something like this or have a different way of doing it?
I've thought about taking a table like this:
<table border="0" width="394"><tbody><tr><td>OS</td> <td>RT</td> <td>RD</td> <td>RR</td> <td>SP</td> <td>HD</td> <td>AS</td> <td>AA</td> </tr> <tr> <td>DH</td> <td>0
</td> <td>0
</td> <td>0</td> <td>0</td> <td>0</td> <td>0</td> <td>0</td> </tr> <tr> <td>C</td> <td>6</td> <td>1</td> <td>1</td> <td>1</td> <td>9</td> <td>8</td> <td>8</td> </tr> <tr> <td>1B</td> <td>7</td> <td>6</td> <td>1</td> <td>1</td> <td>9</td> <td>1</td> <td>1</td> </tr> <tr> <td>2B</td> <td>5</td> <td>6</td> <td>2</td> <td>3</td> <td>7</td> <td>4</td> <td>6</td> </tr> <tr> <td>3B</td> <td>8</td> <td>5</td> <td>1</td> <td>1</td> <td>8</td> <td>7</td> <td>8</td> </tr> <tr> <td>SS</td> <td>5</td> <td>6</td> <td>2</td> <td>5</td> <td>8</td> <td>8</td> <td>9</td> </tr> <tr> <td>LF</td> <td>4</td> <td>4</td> <td>7</td> <td>5</td> <td>2</td> <td>4</td> <td>6</td> </tr> <tr> <td>CF</td> <td>5</td> <td>5</td> <td>9</td> <td>7</td> <td>2</td> <td>6</td> <td>6</td> </tr> <tr> <td>RF</td> <td>4</td> <td>4</td> <td>7</td> <td>5</td> <td>2</td> <td>8</td> <td>6</td></tr></tbody></table>
(source: http://www.lookoutlanding.com/2008/8...e-defensive-sp)
Relating them to MLBTS ratings:
RR (Route running...angle to the ball), RT (Reaction time), RD (Reaction direction...good, accurate first step/read) would all fall under Reaction.
SP = Speed = Well...Speed
HD = Hands = Fielding - ability to use the glove and make transfers. For learning catcher, I'd use this for the Blocking rating as well.
AS = Arm Strength = Arm Strength
AA = Arm Accuracy = Arm Accuracy
This would only be for guys learning a completely new position (i.e. it's not in any of his secondary positions).
RT (Reaction Time), RD (Reaction Direction...i.e. "good first step"), RR (Route running - taking good angles to the ball) could all be compressed into the Reaction rating. I'd add them based on position being acquired. C would just use RT. IF would use RT and RD, and OF would use all three.
Then I'd say that when going from one position to another take the difference. If it's positive or zero, no change the rating. If it's negative, the change = 5 points change in the player's rating. So if I wanted to take Kolten Wong, who only knows 2B, and teach him SS:
Reaction: At both RT + RD = 11. So no change to his Reaction rating. (77 remains 77)
Fielding: 2B has 7 HD and SS has 8 HD. 7 - 8 = -1, so Wong loses 5 points of Fielding (67 becomes 62).
Arm Strength: 2B has 4 and SS has 8. 4 - 8 = -4, so Wong loses 20 points of Arm Strength. (64 becomes 44).
Arm Accuracy: 2B has 6 and SS has 9. 6 - 9 = -3, so Wong loses 15 points of Arm Accuracy. (59 becomes 44).
So if I make those adjustments, I can give Wong SS for his primary position and 2B becomes secondary. He could then train/develop how ever he will from there.
Learning catcher...what ever the Fielding rating becomes, halve it and use that for the Blocking rating.
Would this make any sense at all?"Some people call it butterflies, but to him, it probably feels like pterodactyls in his stomach." --Plesac in MLB18Comment

Re: MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread
I have finally started my 2016 Atlanta Braves franchise. With that being said, I've decided to put the band back together sort of speak.
Rotation:
1. Teheran
2. Shelby Miller. I sent SP Newcomb to the D-Backs
3. Chacin
4. Wisler
5. Bud Norris
Bullpen:
LRP - O'flaherty & J. Johnson
MRP - P-Rod & Ar. Vizcaino
SU - Shea Simmons & Avilan. I gave RP Withdrow back to the Dodgers. I used Avilan very well. His Curve is masterful without touching any of his attributes,
CP - Kimbrel. "Welcome to the Jungle, baby". I sent Grilli to the Red Sox. He is now there set-up man to Uehara.
Line-up
1. CF Inciarte
2. RF Heyward, traded Markakis to the Cubs
3. 1B Freeman
4. LF Mark Trumbo. He has power versus lefties and righties. I traded Hector O' to the O's.
5. SS Andrelton Simmons, sent Aybar back to the Angels
6. C A.J. Pierzynski
7. 3B. Daniel Descalso. He has 88 arm strength can make all the throw's from the far left bag of the diamond. I sent 3B Ad. Garcia to the Rockies.
8. 2B Jace Peterson
Bench:
UIF/OF Kelly Johnson
LF Drew Stubbs
C Tyler Flowers
RF "Frenchy" Franceour #7, not #18
2B Gordon Beckham
Flowers, Franceour and Beckham are happy in the morale department, because they're "Close to home". LOL..Comment

Re: MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread
Cardinals win 4th in a row, Leake wins 4th of the year
The Cardinals extended their winning streak to 4 games with a 6-0 shutout win over the visiting Diamondbacks. Mike Leake turned in the kind of performance that the Cardinals had been hoping for since signing him this offseason. Leake pitched a complete game shutout that included 6 strikeouts and saw him pitch out of jams of his own doing and some not. Leake improved to 4-3 on the year and lowered his ERA below 5.00 at 4.55.
Matt Carpenter found his stroke as he went 3 for 3 with 2 walks, a double, and 2 RBI's. Johnny Peralta launched his 7th homerun of the season when he cleared the bases with a 3 run shot in the 7th. Matt Holliday continues his modest 6 game hitting streak going 1 for 4 on the evening.
Right field and first base are becoming a concern to Matheny as Rios was his old self again, going 0 for 5 with 2 strikeouts. Brandon Moss, while he did draw a walk, went 0 for 3 on the night. The Cardinals need production from these two guys or find two able bodies who are able to produce at the plate.
In other Cardinal news
* Stephen Piscotty is looking as though he will return sometime in mid June from his fractured wrist. Piscotty could be a shot in the arm for offensive production as he was hitting .272 with 2 homers and 13 RBI while batting in the number 2 hole before being injured.
* Matt Adams continues to be up and down playing at AA Springfield. Adams is hitting .292 but that is a far cry from the .330 that he was hitting that made the organization think that he would be back in the majors sooner rather than later. The Cardinals have had internal discussions about bringing Adams back up and taking their chances of trying to send Brandon Moss through optional waivers.
* The Cardinals organization has been keeping close eye on Carson Kelly down at Memphis. The Cardinals are looking to replace Eric Fryer and soon as Fryer has been unproductive at the plate and behind the plate calling games for the pitching staff. Kelly right now is hitting only .246 but that could be something overlooked by the organization if his ability to call games at Memphis continues to improve.I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.
I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

Re: MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread
Well, the Blue Jays 7 game winning streak (their longest of the season) has come to an end. They lost game 3 against Texas 2-1 as they could not solve AJ Griffin. Saunders led off the game with a hit to the wall. He tried to stretch it to an inside the park HR and was gunned out. The Rangers would score in the bottom of the 1st to make it 1-0. Later in the 6th, Josh Hamilton hit a monster HR to center to make it 1-1. The next inning however, Cashner would get into trouble and allowed a RBI single to Elvis Andrus to make it 2-1 Rangers. GrIffin/Tolleson would finish off the game with little resistance to end the hot streak for Toronto.
The 7 game winning streak came at the perfect time as they made up ground on the Yankees and Redsox and now sit 2 games behind Boston and 3.5 behind New York. They also lead the 2nd wild card spot by 4.5 games over the Tigers.
Also, the win streak saw the bats really come alive. With Blackmon out for the rest of the season, the Jays are going with a platoon in CF of Pilar and Saunders. Pillar was hitting well early in the season but has since slowed dramatically. He has now been shifted to a platoon role and a defensive replacement.
Josh Hamilton has found his stroke. He hit 2/4, 4/5 and 1/4 with a homer and 3 RBI in the Texas series and has been named the regular LF. Due to his injury risk he gets regular rest which gives Pillar a few more starts.
Devon Travis has been recalled as well. He demolished AAA in 2 weeks while Jose Fernandez went .045 in that time. Travis is hitting with better contact since the recall but it seems that his power is gone. He still has no homers on the year.
Dan Vogelbach has come back to earth. He only managed 1 hit in the Texas series. The Jays will likely be patient with him, but Ike Davis is hitting well in AAA and could push for playing time come September. Also, Josh Hamilton is becoming more comfortable at 1b. He played the position for 2 weeks in AAA and takes over for the final inning at 1st in games that aren't close. He could work his way into a permanent position there next year.
There are still lots of questions to be answered with September around the corner.
Stay tuned!

I envy you guys who can stay with just one team. I always start up multiple franchises. Right now I have the Mariners, Padres and Rays.
I might go back and forth whenever I feel like playing an NL team for instance. But for now I've decided to be the Padres for a while. Derek Norris being one of the main reasons haha. However I do want to give the Mariners their first World Series title. The Padres are not really postseason ready it seems.
Or who knows I might start up two more franchises in a week or so.

MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread
Unfortunately, I ditched my Indians chise due to staleness and wanting a new challenge. So I started a Phillies franchise and after a fourth place finish in the NL East in 2016, I'm 5 games into the 2017 season with a slow start and a 1-4 record. I used the 2016 season to gauge young talent and move some older players/prospects for some players that could make an impact and hopefully a push for the playoffs in '17.
Franchise settings are:
TNK's sliders
Hitting: Zone - All Star difficulty
Pitching: Meter - Hall of Fame (bumped up from All Star in '16 and loving the challenge. Mistake pitches WILL be punished!)
LINEUP
CF - O. Herrera (team MVP in '16)
2B - D. Espinosa (free agent pickup and versatile 2b/ss that I moved to starting 2B)
3B - M. Franco (avg yr in 16, expecting big year this yr.)
1B - M. Moreland (free agent pickup and much needed power bat)
C - S. Vogt (landed in a trade in late '16, RBI leader so far in '17)
SS - JP Crawford - (top prospect who was brought up late '16, slow start so far in 17)
LF - B. Guyer (acquired via trade. Added much needed speed/of defensive versatility)
RF - J. Marisnik (acquired early 16 via trade for pitching prospects. Great OF arm/speed)
BENCH
1B- D. Ruf (power bat vs L, strong year in 16)
2B- D. Sweeney (adds speed/defensive depth)
SS- A. Blanco (utility guy)
C- C. Rupp (backup C, underperformed in 16)
OF - A. Altherr (might be sending down in favor of N. Williams if he underperforms)
ROTATION
- A. Nola (Ace of staff, bad opening day start in 17. 3.25 ERA in 2016)
- J. Hellickson (strong year in '16)
- V. Velasquez (struggled early 16, sent down and came back late 16 with success. Probably will be team's K leader in '17)
- J. Eickhoff (surprise player of 16. Won 11 games with low 3 ERA)
- M. Appel (held his own at MLB level in '16. Hoping for big year in '17)
BULLPEN
LR- B. Olberholtzer
MR- Y. Medina
MR- H. Neris
MR- J. Benoit (veteran FA pickup)
SU- J. Russell (pitched his way from AAA to MLB bullpen late '16)
SU- D. Hernandez (most reliable bullpen arm in 16)
CL - D. Storen - (acquired via trade late '16)
NOTES
- Main theme of 2016 was lack of run support. Offense was in lower tier of league in 2016. I hope the additions of Moreland, Vogt, Espinosa and the rise of Herrera, Franco, Marisnick, and Crawford will put us in the right direction for 2017. I think we have a good mix of speed, power, and average to be a much better offensive team in '17.
- Of course, to make that playoff run in a division with the Mets and Nats, we are gonna need our pitching staff and bullpen to step up. I feel Nola and Hellickson will have strong years, but our season will ride on the success of how well Eickhoff, Velasquez, Appel, and the bullpen perform. I feel the bullpen could be hit or miss and will more than likely be where I will look to make some moves mid year depending on how well we are doing.
- Think this will be a fun team to compete with in 2017. I like the makeup of the team and we have a few guys in the minors that we will be monitoring with a chance to bring up sometime during the year. Off to a 1-4 start but that's mainly due to a few mistake pitches and not cashing in on some run scoring opportunities with men in scoring position. I believe we can turn this around and make it a year where we hope to be there at the end competing for at least a wild card berth.Last edited by agentlaw13; 05-06-2016, 09:34 AM.Comment

Re: MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread
Just entered September 2016 with the Tigers. Currently sitting at 70-63 and 2 games up on the Twins. Haven't made any moves aside from calling up Fulmer for a few starts while Anibal was injured.
Current Lineup:
1. Kinsler 2B
2. Upton LF
3. Miggy 1B
4. JD Martinez RF
5. VMart DH
6. Castellanos 3B
7. Salty (R)/McCann (L) C
8. Iglesias SS
9. Gose CF
Rotation:
Verlander 10-8 2.78
Zimmerman 5-8 3.12 (dominant when I use him)
Sanchez 7-6 3.78
Norris 10-6 3.12
Greene 8-9 4.20 (better than expected)
Aside from JD, the bats have been pretty quiet in Detroit. Solid starting pitching and a FANTASTIC bullpen effort are the only reason I am contending in an admittedly weak AL Central.
My plan was to move VMart and probably Anibal before the deadline, but since I was contending, I decided to stand pat and try and bring in some veteran help, but nothing panned out. I am looking to offload a starter and VMart this off-season......any good recommendations on realistic trades? I.e., VMart can't go to an NL team.....Comment

Yea I am in the opposite situation. I can only ever play with Toronto. Otherwise I'll chuck it down a month or 2 in and get bored. I usually play 1 full season (every game) but I have never finished 2 seasons of the same franchise playing all 162 and playoff/spring training.
This year my goal is to play all of 2 seasons including ST of next season. That would be an accomplishment and I will be very happy with that! Although I do wish I could play with other teams to try out other players and leagues.Comment

MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread
I had traded for Jake Diekman from TEX and Jed Lowrie from the A's about mid year in 2016. I never pitched well with Diekman and he wasn't happy in PHI. And Lowrie came over in the Vogt trade with plans for him to be my 2B for the next two years but he didn't like his contract or not being on a contender. So in the offseason, I shipped them both to TOR for Storen and a young C potential starting pitcher (can't remember name, not in front of my ps4) that's in AAA.Last edited by agentlaw13; 05-06-2016, 12:06 PM.Comment

Re: MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread
I am running a Pirates franchise where I sim most games, playing some sporadically. I like to sim so I can focus mainly on building my roster, scouting, drafting, managing contracts, and so on. The first year we barely finished over .500. We could have been better, but McCutchen was only able to play about 100 games due to injury. The Cubs were insane and I highly doubt we would have caught them anyway (I think they won around 110 games, sheesh). We lost in the wild card game in 2016 against the Dodgers. The Mets won the World Series, beating Toronto.
The offseason was pretty uneventful. I kept just about everyone and did not have much room in the budget to make any big moves. I picked up Mike Napoli and used him in a platoon at first base with John Jaso. McCutchen bounced back big time and posted a WAR of 9 something. The 2017 regular season was better but we still finished second to the Cubs. We are getting ready to play the Giants on the road in the wild card game (payback for 2014?).
I am excited to see how these playoffs play out, but I am also pumped for the offseason. It is going to be a big one. McCutchen becomes a free agent, and I am really not sure if I will be able to keep him. If he leaves I will get a compensation pick and move Marte to centerfield. I have a decent prospect at left field that I could put there. I also drafted the best prospect I have seen yet in this game in the 2017 draft. I took him with the 17th selection in the first round. He is a lefty hitter and thrower and plays centerfield. His potential is 90 and is already a 74 overall at age 20 or 21 (can't remember his exact age). He is well rounded (maybe even a legit 5 tool player) and his contact versus lefties and righties is 70ish. His power ratings are both around 50 and projected to improve. One problem...durability. It is hovering around 20! I knew before I drafted him that his injury risk was high, but I didn't think it would be that low. My plan is to either trade him ASAP, or keep him in A ball for a year or two and see how much I can train his durability up. If it comes up to around a 50 (probably won't), I might just keep him and take my chances. If I end up trading him I would like to get a big power bat in the outfield. My Pirates, just like the real ones, lack power. Either way I am hoping that this will get me on a path to eventually overtaking the Cubs as the division juggernaut. Does anyone have any other ideas on what to do with my beast of a prospect with the Achilles heel? Editing his rating just feels too dirty.Comment
