Chris Sale just got scratched from tonight's start so we might find out his value on the open market

Reports are it's the flu. It is prime flu season after all.

Jon Morosi says his sources say Sale is not sick. Plus it's more fun to guess where and what he's worth than what color Gatorade he will drink to hydrate from the Flu

Rumors are out there circulating that the Rangers are about to empty the bank on Sale. Gallo, Profar, Brinson and Tate could be gone by end of night.

Re: MLB 16 Trade Discussion Thread

Just rolled into the ASB in my Padres franchise. At 38-51, I decided that we would be selling. I have 3 players that I am trying to gauge value on (I will roll them out one at a time so as to not overwhelm). Note that I already dealt Tyson Ross + Derek Norris in preseason and dealt Fernando Rodney a week or so ago. I will also be doing Pomeranz for Espinoza.

The first player on the agenda is James Shields.

Contract Info: 2.5 years left at $21.6MM per season

            Vitals: 34 y/o, 79 OVR, B POT [66 H/9 | 59 K/9 | 65 BB/9 | 54 HR/9 | 84 STAM] (about 4-5 points of across the board regression so far this season have already been taken into account in these ratings)

Triple Crown Stats: 6-6, 4.02 ERA

            Volume Stats: 121 IP, 107 K, 41 BB, 10 HR, 20 GS, 1 CG SHO, 10 QS

            Rate Stats (career norms): 7.96 K/9 (7.85) | 3.05 BB/9 (2.31) | 0.74 HR/9 (1.09), 1.37 WHIP (1.24)

Nutshell Stats: 2.48 WAR (4.5 WAR pace), 3.36 FIP (3.63 career FIP)

Potentially Interested Teams: Toronto (56-36, 1st place), Kansas City (52-38, 1st place), Houston (53-38, t-1st), Chicago Cubs (63-27, 1st place).

Note that the White Sox are not on this list and are far out of contention. A Shields to White Sox deal won't work. The Blue Jays have the biggest need (2nd worst ERA in baseball). I also don't think sending Shields back to KC is realistic.

What I hope to accomplish here: Mostly I want to explore the concept of salary relief. I have some ideas for making a splash in the 2016-2017 offseason so I am interested in having another team assume Shields' entire contract even if I don't get much back in terms of prospects. Given that Shields had only 0.5 fWAR in real life when the Sox agreed to pay half his salary plus Erik Johnson + Fernando Tatis Jr. it might be feasible here. In my chise, Shields has 2.5 WAR and I want to explore dumping the entire contract.

Ideally, I'd be able to have a team take on Shields' entire contract and get a low ceiling/near-ready arm, whether a potential back-of-rotation starter or a 7th/8th inning reliever.

Prospects I have interest in (in this price range):

            CHC
            Spoiler

I am mainly looking for feedback on (1) is it feasible to dump the entire contract and (2) which team/prospect(s) looks like the best fit?

If that's true, I expect about 1,000,000 White Sox franchises to start up.

As a Rangers fan, if that's true, I will vomit. While Sale is awesome, you don't trade that much for pitcher. They are simply too darn injury prone. I don't care who it is. If Texas wants to trade two above, and a couple of other good (not great) prospects, fine. But, 4 players that have been/are top 25 prospects, uh hell no.

At the 2018 trade deadline in a 30 team control franchise, I play as Oakland. I'm at 53-53, 4 out of the wildcard. Baltimore is 43-62 and Adam Jones is a free agent at the end of the season

                        OAK gets: CF Adam Jones
                        Jones- 88 ovr, .276/.311/.473, 18 HR, 60 RBI

BAL gets: SP Nolan Washington, 2B Franklin Barreto
                        Washington- 76 ovr 82 pot 21 yo, 5-9, 5.20 ERA, 1.76 WHIP, 113 K, 128 IP (AAA)
                        Barreto- 71 ovr 89 pot 22 yo, .255/.309/.359, 4 HR, 30 RBI (AAA)

From the same guy that broke the Sale news:

IF Chris Sale is traded, @StokkeTommy believes #RedSox are favorites to land him and would require Moncada, Benintendi AND Kopech..at least.

Rangers are in a stand still with White Sox because they are asking for Gallo, Profar and Mazara and the Rangers don't want to deal Mazara.i haven't heard anything about Boston

I really do hope it's Boston. I can live with the Rangers giving up two of Gallo, Mazara, & Profar. But, not all three. For an every day player, I can somewhat understand. But, the way pitchers have been requiring surgery, I'll pass. Am hoping Dombrowski bails us out, here.

Show me where it says the Nats offered this, or even a rumor that they did. This was a trade proposed by Mark Derosa, on an MLB network show, as a sort of brainstorm trade idea... Not actually based on rumors or inside info he was hearing. AND the trade included Adam Eaton (a young, controllable, high OBP, prototypical lead off hitter, which the Nats have been searching for the last four years) going back to the Nats as well. Sale alone is not worth Giolito, Turner, Ross and Robles, not even close. I could see a package of Giolito, Robles and Ross... Or Giolito, Robles, and another Nats minor league arm like Fedde or Voth (not Reynaldo Lopez)... But not Turner as well, and certainly not Giolito, Turner, and Robles. The Nats aren't going to give up 3 top 15 prospects in baseball, including a top 2 pitching prospect and their 2 top two positional prospects-- and they don't really have other positional prospects even close.
