Re: MLB 16 Trade Discussion Thread
Last one is 1B/3B Brett Wallace.
Contract Info: 2.5 years of team control at $1.0MM this season and escalating a bit over that period.
Vitals: 29 y/o, 72 OVR, C POT [56/50 Contact | 65/53 Power | 32 Vision | 57 Discipline | 66/64/51/61 Defensive ratings | 40 Speed]
Triple Crown Stats: .234, 13 HR, 37 RBI
Volume Stats: 252 AB, 13 BB, 74 K, 10 2B, 0 3B, 3 Errors (.988)
Rate Stats (career norms): 27.72 K% (29.17) | 4.87 BB% (7.10) | .234/.270/.429 (.245/.309/.408)
Nutshell Stats: 1.00 WAR (1.7 WAR pace)
Potentially Interested Teams: Angels (53-40, 2nd place), Brewers (51-40, 2nd place/2.5 WC lead), Mets (50-42, 1st place).
The Angels are in the mix and basically don't have any left-handed bats aside from Calhoun. I find that odd. Wallace could take some platoon at-bats from Cron/Pujols. Neither are having a great year. That Wallace could help at 1B/3B/DH makes LAA a natural fit.
The Brewers are a surprise and don't even need a ton of help at 1B/3B because Andy Wilkins and Will Middlebrooks are doing ok. I just kind of like the fit here for the rebuilding Brew Crew with Wallace having some team control left and Chris Carter out for a couple of months.
For the Mets, Duda is batting .215 and Flores is batting .232. Wallace would give them another 1B/3B option and pinch batter with some pop.
What I hope to accomplish here: Again, not a salary dump as Wallace is arb-eligible at a fairly inconsequential rate for 2 more years.
Wallace has some versatility, but doesn't really fit my long term vision for the team in terms of excelling at contact/defense/speed/pitching/obp. He doesn't really excel at any of those. With Jon Singleton likely to get another look at 1B and a Top prospect I got in this years draft also a 1B'man and with Solarte fairly well entrenched at 3B and Ryan Schmipf also an option there, I want to get whatever I can for Wallace.
Prospects I have interest in (in this price range)...not married to these exact guys:
I don't really have anything specific in mind here. A near-ready position player would be ideal, but those guys are hard to get.
Taylor Ward of the Angels would be nice, but I'm not sure if Wallace commands that type of return. The Angels don't have a lot on their farm, either. A couple of other options here would be INF Roberto Baldoquin, OF Rafael Ortega, or C Jett Bandy.
The surprising Brewers probably aren't dealing key prospects since they are rebuilding and just got lucky (25th best team according to the radial graphs). Maybe someone like OF Keon Broxton or OF Rymer Liriano would be available. RPs Damien Magnifico and Jed Bradley are a bit interesting.
As for the Mets, Dilson Herrera would be great, but again not likely to be moved for someone like Brett Wallace having just an ok season. Some bullpen arms such as Akeel Morris, Domingo Tapia, and Josh Smoker are likely the best fit.Follow my Twins franchise http://www.operationsports.com/Tmizzle/dynasty/Comment

Re: MLB 16 Trade Discussion Thread
Sure. I'm currently chock full of young prospects: Francisco Lindor, Byron Buxton, Nomar Mazara, and Joey Gallo being among the best.
Pitching wise, I have Matt Harvey, Noah Syndergaard, Carlos Rodon and Aaron Sanchez. Additionally, I have Dellin Betances and Andrew Miller in my bullpen.
I realize my team is cheese, but hey, it's just for fun!
Any other possible trade suggestions for a prime Gwynn and Fisk?

Re: MLB 16 Trade Discussion Thread
WTNY if it's not too late I would try and configure a salary eating of sort. Jays can't afford $7m on their payroll and it'd help you make it feel more fair. Take Storen from them if he's playing like IRL."Twelve at-bats is a pretty decent sample size." - Eric ByrnesComment

Also, I saw on MLBTR that the Jays are in the mix for Cashner. It'll be interesting to see if they get Cashner + Upton and what they give back/how much money they take on.Chicago Cubs | Chicago Bulls | Green Bay Packers | Michigan WolverinesComment

Re: MLB 16 Trade Discussion Thread
Thanks to everyone for the input on my trades. Here's more or less what came out of that (spoilered so it doesn't hurt your eyes). It turned out to be 7 different deals, although I thought of it more like 6, with #4 and #5 being related. The real Padres are likely to deal most of these players as well (Rodney, Pomeranz, and Shields already have been...Cashner and Upton Jr. are about to be...Ross would be too if he were healthy).
I am posting a bit of reasoning as well so that people can copy these moves if they like them.
Trade 1: Tyson Ross to HOU
Spoiler
This one was discussed quite a bit in this thread a couple of months back. So no need to re-hash. But the overall deal was...
RHP Tyson Ross + C Derek Norris + RHP Jon Edwards for 1B Jon Singleton + RHP Francis Martes + OF Preston Tucker
A preseason deal of my most valuable asset/top SP. It's working out ok for both sides so far. Ross was injured for a bit, but has come back to be a strong #2 for the 1st place Astros. In 94 IP, Ross is 5-6 with a 2.97 ERA, 9.77 K/9, 3.45 BB/9. Norris has become the starting catcher and his batting .263 with 3 HR in 266 AB. Jon Edwards is striking out a lot of people in AAA.
Jon Singleton was horrendous for me in a cameo, but has rebounded a bit in AAA with .240/2/12 in 154 AB. Francis Martes has been impressive at both AA and AAA. He started the Futures Game for the World squad and is 4-3 with a 3.34 ERA in 59.1 IP at AAA. He was even better in AA. Preston Tucker has been meh as a 4th OF, hovering around .200, but with at least a threat of power.
Trade 2: Fernando Rodney to WAS
Spoiler
Rodney was 19/20 in save opportunities with good stats and the Nats bullpen was struggling. The deal was...
RHP Fernando Rodney for SS/2B Wilmer Difo
Difo is somewhat of a forgotten player although he got a surprise callup last season. With Trea Turner around and Daniel Murphy at 2B, Difo would have trouble getting any playing time. Difo will hopefully take over at SS for Alexei Ramirez, who is bad, to get a look.
Trade 3: Drew Pomeranz to BOS
Spoiler
No need to analyze this one. Same as IRL. Pomeranz was pitching well, but Espinoza was out with a shoulder injury (which I am not worried about because the game doesn't process that as a repeatable/lingering thing).
LHP Drew Pomeranz for RHP Anderson Espinoza
Espinoza and Martes gives me a nice duo of high upside starters.
Trade 4: James Shields to HOU
Spoiler
This one is sort of complicated due to the money in the deal. But, this is the basic gist of it...
RHP James Shields + RHP Kevin Quackenbush for RHP Jandel Gustave + SS Nolan Fontana + RHP Scott Feldman + RHP Doug Fister + C Jason Castro
Both Shields and Quackenbush are pitching well and Shields will give the Astros a solid 1-5 with Keuchel/Ross/McCullers/Shields/McHugh and it'll bump Joe Musgrove back to AAA where he really should be at the moment.
I get an interesting power arm for the bullpen in Gustave and another middle infield option for my stockpile. I also get 3 bums for salary purposes.
The Astros were only $2MM under budget, so me taking back those 3 big leaguers is just a way to eat $20MM of Shields' salary this year. Feldman is making $8MM, Fister $7MM, and Castro $5MM. All are free agents at the end of the season and none are contributing to Houston's playoff push. Fister is pitching in relief in AAA, Feldman is starting in AAA, and Castro is the starting AAA catcher after being displaced by Norris/Kratz/Stassi. I am going to cut Fister and Feldman and spin Castro off in the next deal...
Trade 5: Jason Castro (from HOU) to LAA
Spoiler
I structured this deal as a separate deal from #4 instead of a 3-way because I couldn't see the Astros and Angels going in on the same deal when they are both fighting for 1st place. So basically, San Diego told Luhnow they would keep Jason Castro from the prior deal and then told Billy Eppler that Castro was available...Gotta watch out for that A.J. Preller...so sneaky. Deal is...
C Jason Castro for RHP Kyle McGowin
The Angels get a much needed catcher (they are starting Matt McBride there) and also a much needed LHB in rental Jason Castro. Kole Calhoun was their only lefty batter in their standard lineup.
I get McGowin who I like a bit and he can probably audition for the rotation as early as next season.
If we take trades 4 and 5 combined, basically I dealt James Shields and Kevin Quackenbush to get Jandel Gustave, Kyle McGowin, Nolan Fontana, and someone else to pay Shields' $42MM over '17/'18.
Trade 6: Andrew Cashner to TOR
Spoiler
The Blue Jays are tops in the East but have the worst rotation in baseball. They also badly needed a lefty reliever with Cecil out for a while and Loup with a 14 ERA...so the deal is...
RHP Andrew Cashner + LHP Ryan Buchter for RHP Conner Greene + RHP John Stilson
Cashner is pitching well and will be an enormous upgrade over somebody in the Jays' rotation (probably Dickey who has regressed like crazy). Buchter has been a great LOOGY for me in his rookie season. 34.2 IP, 2.08 ERA, 0.98 WHIP, 8.83 K/9, 3.38 BB/9, 2.97 FIP. I included Buchter (didn't really want to) as a controllable LOOGY so I wouldn't feel bad for not taking any money back from the Jays.
With Greene, I get another enticing young arm to add in with Anderson Espinoza, Francis Martes and the guys I already had like Logan Allen and Austin Smith. That minor league pitching depth is starting to look very good.
Stilson is just a power arm that might get a look down the stretch. He'll either be a part of the bullpen or an org arm going forward.
Trade 7: Brett Wallace to NYM
Spoiler
Duda has been bad and the Mets have no depth after him at 1B. Flores and Wright are both around to play 3B, but Wallace gives them a LHB to trot out at 3B and to give them some pinch hit thunder. Sort of a solid bench bat for a playoff team to have.
1B/3B Brett Wallace for RHP Robert Gsellman
That's just stocking my pitching a bit more. Gsellman is a low upside, finesse sinkerballer that could become pretty decent at Petco Park. I'm taking a flyer on a guy who has a non-zero shot at becoming an ok #5.Chicago Cubs | Chicago Bulls | Green Bay Packers | Michigan WolverinesComment

Re: MLB 16 Trade Discussion Thread
Somewhat unrelated question, but for the 30 team franchise guys, do you go in and make sure that players that will refuse their QO do so and go on the open market?
I generally setup a save file right at the start of the offseason and then see who goes on the market and then go back and make some adjustments so that players that should be on the market, are.
One example is Matt Wieters on this upcoming offseason, he will undoubtedly become a FA, although 9/10 he accepts an offer from the O's before FA starts on December 2nd.
Any opinions?Comment

Re: MLB 16 Trade Discussion Thread
Hey guys. In July still looking for pitching help for the Jays. Phillies are way out of it and selling (already dealt Helickson and looking to trade Neris. Neris would be a perfect end of the bullpen piece I need. His stats:
2-2, 3.59 ERA, 1.13 WHIP, 46 K, 47.2 innings, 15BB/46K
0.93 WAR, 8.69 K/9, 2.85 FIP
I was thinking DJ Davis (58B, .253 1HR 8RBI in AA but was hurt) and Max Pentcost (.231 13GP - just moved to AA).
I know the price for relievers are high so that's why I think Davis and Pentcost would have to get it done. Maybe I take back another 60 rated vet as well for AAA depth. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
