Re: MLB 16 Trade Discussion Thread

I'm on July 17th, 2016 in my RedSox franchise and have been using real life trades and plan on putting my touch on the team in my first offseason.

Sonny Gray has been on fire this season for the A's who are in rebuilding mode. I don't have his full stats but he is right around a 2 ERA in July. Below is what I plan on my rotation to look like before any trades:

    David Price
    Rick Porcello
    Drew Pomeranz
    Clay Buchholz
    Eduardo Rodriguez
Steven Wright as a long man

I'd like to include Pomeranz in the deal to shed some a few bucks. I was thinking a package of:

Drew Pomeranz 84 overall 80 potential
Brian Johnson 66 overall 74 potential
Christian Vazquez 67 overall 81 potential

Would this be a fair deal?

I don't think this deal is really all that fair. Sonny Gray isn't in the elite category of pitchers (Chris Sale, Jose Fernandez, Clayton Kershaw, Madison Bumgarner level) but he is definitely in the next tier down when he's healthy (unlike this year irl) If he's pitching to a sub-2 ERA I think it would take a Top-10 prospect from the Sox system (somebody like Sam Travis or Michael Kopech). You would then add on to that prospect with somebody like Christian Vazquez or a lesser known prospect like Mauricio Dubon or Marco Hernandez. I don't think a rebuilding Oakland would want Brian Johnson or Drew Pomeranz (who they've already traded before)

Thanks for the feedback! I was considering Kopech but felt he was more of a ? since he is in Single A.

My thought process behind it is Pomeranz could go into their MLB rotation with Johnson not far behind him and is also #7 in the Sox system according to soxprospects.com. Probably reading into real life a little too much thinking a rebuilding Oakland team would suit Johnson more with his anxiety issues. I feel like Oakland's needs are primarily pitching and catching.

I think Kopech would be good to include be his velocity alone is very mouthwatering as a prospect in a deal, not very often you get a pitcher who has hit 103 multiple times and isn't even 20 yet. I think Kopech, Vazquez, and maybe another lottery ticket type prospect i.e. Dubon or Trey Ball. You could also potentially swap out Vazquez with Swihart depending on how you feel about the two. As a Sox fan I just wish you could combine Swihart's offensive potential with Vazquez's great defense. You'd have the perfect catcher haha

That would be a beautiful thing haha! I've been playing with Leon as my starter since late June and he's hitting over .300 so pleased with that. Thinking I am going to put Blake back as my starter in 2017 let Hanigan walk in FA and use Leon as my back up.

You could always and hang with me here on this one haha because it's gonna sting a little. You could trade JBJ or Benintendi for a higher valued pitcher than Gray, keep Vazquez and move Swihart to LF full-time. A package of JBJ or Benintendi, combined with Sam Travis and Michael Kopech could fetch you a very nice fish

I think I am the only RedSox fan on earth that likes Benintendi more than Moncada. I like Moncada's speed and attributes but his baseball instincts are so bad. I'd rather trade Moncada and keep Devers/Benintendi/JBJ in any deal.

What would you think of going for someone to replace Ortiz instead of a pitcher? Someone like Joey Votto or Paul Goldschmidt? Do you think a similar package of Moncada/Travis/Kopech lands Votto or Goldschmidt? Arizona is having a similar year in my franchise as they are in real life. I think the Braves and Padres are the only teams performing worse than them in the NL.

You can't get Votto, he has a full NTC and Goldschmidt could cost more than that package. Probably Moncada, Groome plus a position guy that's better than Travis. Those guys would cost a fortune.

Rough math, if you say a 5 WAR average from 2017-2019 for Goldy you're looking at $85.525 in surplus but I also didn't do the inflation calculations. Moncada is worth roughly $70 million so its definitely Moncada +Kopech $16 million and Travis isn't top 100 so we will say ~ $6 million. That adds to $92 million. But odds are Arizona will view him as more the 7.4 WAR guy he was in 2015 than the 5WAR guy in 2016. If we use 6.5 WAR as a middle ground we get $121.525 million in surplus which would look something like Moncada + Groome +Kopech or Moncada + Devers with Arizona throwing a little something else in with Goldy.

Again I'm in class and too lazy to go into the inflation and all of that but http://www.thepointofpittsburgh.com/...dated-edition/ helps a lot getting an idea of prospect worth.

I'm about to start the 2016-2017 offseason, and with Aaron Hicks having broken out and Clint Frazier waiting in the wings, what value does Brett Gardner have after a season in which he hit .275/.326/.386 with 8 home runs, 32 RBI, and 57 steals with a SHOW WAR of 1.34 (with is dragged down by some user base running errors, I'll be honest. I attempt to steal way too much.)

He's still locked up for two more years at $12.6M each, which I think is pretty reasonable for a guy who provides at the plate, in the field, and on the base paths, but he's expendable for me and I'd love to get some fresh blood on the mound if it's possible. Thoughts?

Re: MLB 16 Trade Discussion Thread

Just starting my 2017 season and I now find myself in need of a starting pitcher. My rotation was pretty solid in 2016 and looked to be the same in 2017 with the following:

                      Arrieta
                      Hammel (had an amazing 2016)
                      Lester
                      Hendricks
                      Lackey

However, Jason Hammel suffered a torn rotator cuff in Spring Training and is going to miss six months. Now that I have Schwarber back I seemingly am in a position to be able to part with some outfielders. Jorge Soler put together a great 2016 with 24 home runs and 80 RBIs. I'd definitely be willing to include him if I could get a good, young pitcher.

As I've discussed before, I'd really like either Sonny Gray or Chris Archer and want to know what some
Of you guys think it would take to get either of them. On the game the A's were willing to do Hammel, Soler, and Almora Jr. for Gray, but that's no longer an option with Hammel done for most of the year.

I think you'd need to swap Soler for Baez if you want a young TOR guy. Maybe something like Baez plus Candelario. Gray will depend on how he pitched in the game since his real 2016 was kinda rough.

Gardner could probably get you a MOR/BOR arm at best. He isn't that good anymore and is basically worth just slightly more than his contract. What are some teams that could use an outfielder to lead off

Soler costs more and has a lower ceiling. No teams wants to make the Cubs better and take less than they want. You have to give to get, and getting a TOR arm will hurt
