ASTROS LOSE 5-3
The bats have failed once again. McCullers pitched ok, but got tagged on every mistake he made. All 5 runs given up came off of home runs. Hopefully the day off will help wake up the bats.
INJURY
Nick Hundley was pulled from the game in the 7th with an undisclosed injury. After the game, the medical staff examined him and diagnosed a blister on the finger and projected only a day or two out of action. With the day off, the injury is a non issue as Hundley has been cleared to start.
NEXT UP
The Astros (7-6) travel north on I45 and head to Arlington for a 3 game series against their in-state rivals the Rangers (8-6).

ASTROS WIN 7-4
Steven Matz (2-0 1.71) pitched another great game, going 8 innings allowing 7H 2 runs and striking out 8. Steven Pearce showed some life, and busted open a 0-0 game in the 7th with a grand slam. A decision has been made regarding the teams struggling offense.
TRADE
With so many players batting below .225 (Everyone except Lowrie & Correa) It was decided that a move needed to be made. With Alex Bregman (.342 with 3rbi & 2sb in 38 ab's) and AJ Reed (.309 3hr 14rbi in 55ab's) burning it up on the farm, ownership forced Luhnow's hand to make a move. This of course led to a dilemma, as veterans Mark Teixeira & David Freese although struggling mightily wouldn't take kindly to a benching. The White Sox lined up as the perfect team to trade with.
The Astro's sent 1B Mark Teixeira 3B David Freese & RP Matt Thorton to the White Sox in return for 3B/OF Trevor Plouffe.
Plouffe, batting a lowly .222, is not having a solid season himself, but maybe a change of scenery will help him out. Plouffe was an ideal acquisition as his contract will not prohibit the eventual promotion of top prospect Alex Bregman.
In a corresponding move, the Astros purchased the contract of 1st baseman AJ Reed from Fresno, as well as the contract of RP Ross Detwiller from Corpus Christi.MLB The Show 20

Series Recap: Cubs Sweep Struggling Cincy 3-0, improve to 7-2
Game 1: Cubs win 2-1. Such a strange home opener. Nola gives up just 1 run, which was in inning 2, but that was because of Nelson Cruz errors. Nelson completely lost track of the ball in right field, which led to a triple. Nola actually ran a no hitter into the 8th inning. Kris Bryant continues to heat up.
TRADE AFTER GAME: The Cubs decided Nelsons fielding woes were too much to handle. A straight up trade was made for Carlos Gonzales. Cargo, who is struggling on the season, fits the teams current needs. He fills Nelsons potential power spot, while adding more speed and solid fielding.
Game 2: Cubs win 5-2, with another impressive start for the Cubs pitchers. Baez has solidified himself as a starter at 2B, as he cranked a home run for his first of the year. Tomas continues to heat up as well.
Game 3: Another close one, the Cubs edge out the win, 5-4. Tomas is ON FIRE in the 2 hole, taking the starting job away from Beltran. Tomas is batting .408, and added another HR to his season totals in this game.

Re: Official MLB The Show 16 Fantasy Draft Franchise Progress Thread
WOW. Cubs win 3-2 in SEVENTEEN INNINGS! After blowing a few chances early on, with 2 outs, Jean Segura ripped a single. Then, full count, he takes off as Yasmany Tomas hits a ball through the infield and Segura gets to third. The plan for Carlos Gonzalez next at bat was to be patient, as the pitcher had been wild. Well, 8th pitch of the AB, 2-2 count, the ball gets past the catcher and Segura scores the winning run. Amazing game, bullpen HUGE.Comment

Brandon Finnegan Out Again
Another Strained Pectoral, Out 3-4 Weeks
The Sox end June with a needed sweep against the 3rd place-but-right-there Rays in their own stadium. But any good feelings from that were mellowed by the fact that Brandon Finnegan will see his second stint on the DL this season.
It was about as bad a start as it can be for a starting pitcher.
Single, Walk, 3-Run HR, Single and an injury.
The Red Sox will bring back Julio Urias from Pawtucket. Alex Reyes got bombed in his first Pawtucket start since getting bombed in his last big league outing, and Carson Fulmer isn't on the 40-man roster, so Urias was the simplest option...not that he did well with a 5.30 ERA.

Player Development News
Early impressions have been positive with regards to Kenta Maeda. Some scouts are thinking he'll translate well indeed to our league's competition level.
Jeurys Familia is not helping his cause with the scouts. They are especially concerned with how many home runs he's giving up, especially as a closer. "I don't understand why a sinker ball pitcher is giving up a home run about once every three innings. Especially when he can throw it at 96-97 MPH, " one scout commented.
Grade for Sano keep jumping up, some going as high as 93/99, especially after factoring in intangibles. His amazing first half is nearly complete, and the Sox will hope for anything even resembling this down the stretch run.
Murmurings about Chapman returning to the closer role are heating up as he continues to dominate out of the bullpen. The problem there is that he might have become too valuable as a 6th, 7th, or 8th inning reliever (and sometimes two of those innings). As inconsistent as Familia has been at closer, would Farrell have confidence bringing him out in a tight spot in the 7th or 8th?
3B Juan Francisco is coming out of nowhere. Scouts are flabbergasted by Juan's ability to pick up base hits, apparently, because they are rapidly elevating their consensus grades for his hit tool. If this keeps up, he might either be a nice trade piece or force his way onto the roster as a sub for Chris Carter and power bat off the bench.
CF Mallex Smith might be starting to come around. Scouts are warming to him a bit after posting a .290 batting average in Pawtucket so far. The team would like to see him push Buxton, maybe motivating Byron...or supplanting him.

A's, Padres Make Trade
A's Acquire Trevor Rosenthal in Deal
The A's didn't keep Alford for long. The CF prospect they got from the Red Sox was flipped along to San Diego in return for closer Trevor Rosenthal.
It looks as though the A's will use Rosenthal much like the Sox are using Chapman, a power arm to bolster the 7th and 8th innings. A's already have a dominating closer in Roberto Osuna, and sources say that Rosenthal has already been penciled in as a setup man.
Dodgers Grab Tillman from Giants to Bolster Rotation
Ship SS Prospect Rosario in Deal
The Dodgers wanted to shore up the top half of their rotation, and Chris Tillman was their target, even if it meant trading with their archrivals. Tillman immediately moves into their rotation with the top three being Dallas Kuechel, Sonny Gray, and now Chris Tillman.
The price for Tillman was an interesting 20-year-old SS Amed Rosario. Amed looks to be a defensive SS in the making and has been making progress this season.
Also moving is SP prospect Huang, who is mostly a project pitcher at this point.

Just an update.
I couldn't resist starting over after the OSFM V 3.0 was released. With my crazy work schedule the last three weeks and other family commitments I finally managed to do a fantasy draft on Saturday night (late).
I will post the video of my draft results and highlights of game 1 here tonight (err Wednesday night - Tuesday some free-ice time came up so i was out playing some pick-up hockey with the team).
I plane to make a highlight pack of every game that should be around 2 mins each for game highlights and news.
I stayed with the SD Padres and had the 15th overall pick.
Stay tuned. I really enjoyed picking in the middle of the draft.Former Bison, Argonaut, TSN and Sportsnet employee.

DRAFT RECAP
The Astros had the 30th pick, and looking at the big board, decided to go offense back to back. The picks were, Short-Stop Carlos Correa followed by 1st Baseman Anthony Rizzo. Given both players youth and all around excellence both with the glove and with the bat, there didn't seem like another option. A relatively productive draft, AJ Hinch can't wait to get started.

Re: Official MLB The Show 16 Fantasy Draft Franchise Progress Thread
Mired in a hard luck slump as the first half closes, Ichiro still steadily plugged away, picking up a hit here and a hit there. His last game was just a 1-for-5 effort, even facing a lefty pitcher, but the one hit was the biggest in his career, the 3,000th.
No one will remember, or even care, that he did it while watching his average drop to .234. Nor all the line outs or the bad swings, wanting to do it in front of the home fans and before the All-Star Break for the sake of closure. It would be a perfect time to just celebrate his career while no meaningful baseball is being played.
All that mattered is that he did it. He reached the magic plateau.
The "will he or won't he" questions might start up regarding retirement. Coming back for another year is not out of the question. Ichiro still has some game left. He may return to a platoon role now that he's reached 3,000, but defensively he's still strong, he's still stealing some bases, and he still can hit lefties.
But for now, baseball, and Ichiro, can just enjoy this moment."Some people call it butterflies, but to him, it probably feels like pterodactyls in his stomach." --Plesac in MLB18Comment

Re: Official MLB The Show 16 Fantasy Draft Franchise Progress Thread
I thoroughly am regretting deleting my first fantasy franchise with the Reds...I was so much further along, and now I can't seem to draft a team I actually enjoy playing withMLB The Show 20

Re: Official MLB The Show 16 Fantasy Draft Franchise Progress Thread
Decided to just not play as the Astros...Maybe I have a tendency to pick more "astros" players and i expect a hit every time I'm at bat when I do that lol...
