Re: Official MLB The Show 16 Fantasy Draft Franchise Progress Thread

What's up guys? So, I did another Fantasy Draft, but I am doing a Dynasty Blog for the team.

    Here's the link: http://www.operationsports.com/forum...franchise.html

Feel free to comment over there or whatever. I did a whole position-by-position breakdown so far for the entire team and am just about ready for Opening Day. Enjoy!

        BREAKINGNEWS

The Reds improved to 11-3 as Greg Holland earned his 7th save of the young season. The 6th inning may prove to be devastating to the team, as Jose Bautista slid feet first into second base, and fractured his forearm while going in for the slide. The prognosis is not good, as Bautista is expected to be out anywhere from 2-3 months. Bautista leaves a large hole in the cleanup spot as he was hitting .429 6hr & 19 rbis, due in large part to his 14 game hitting streak.

*CF Boog Powell will be recalled from AAA, and start in RF for the Reds. The power and arm are not there for Powell, but his speed and contact should play well in the 8 hole.

          BREAKING (once again) NEWS

In just the second game since Jose Bautista was injured, Boog Powell was thrown out at 2nd in the sixth inning. The reports are not looking well, as a fractured shin is the rumor in the dugout. Update after the game.

*The Reds took the loss as the Cubs Chris Sale pitched his second CG SO in a row. Boog Powell's injury has him out for 1-2 months.

Reds GM Joe Smith was quoted as saying "The seasons young, and were in a good place in the standings. That being said, with the recent injuries to the outfield, and the lack of ready outfielders in the minors, we are going to explore our options."

"I understand this isn't the type of acquisition most fans want to see, but we felt it was the best way to improve the club in the near term." GM Joe Smith said when asked by reporters to comment on the recent trade with the Blue Jays. The Reds aquired Utility Man- Phil Gosselin from Toronto in exchange for SP Casey Sadler (AAA) and C Carlos Ruiz (AAA).

"Our medical staff is confident Jose Bautista will be back by the All Star break. Boog will return a month before Jose. If we can continue to play consistent ball, the return of Boog followed by Jose will give us a massive boost entering the second half. As I said before, Gosselin may not be the sexiest name out there, but he gives us a lot of options looking foward. We were able to acquire Phil by dealing from positions of strength, while holding onto our prospects" -GM Smith

Padres Lose Opening Series to Dodgers 2-1

Well, that was not how things were supposed to go. The Padres lost 2 out of 3 games to start off the year and the losses were painstakingly agonizing. Here's a breakdown of the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly from the first three games of the year.

              The Good
Starting Pitching: While there were questions about the backend of the rotation in the form of Kevin Gausman and Archie Bradley, the first three were supposed to be the anchors and they lived up to every expectation laid upon them. The three starters, Jon Lester, Julio Teheran, and Homer Bailey, combined 20 innings and only gave up 3 runs while striking out 18 and walking 5. They proved to the fans in San Diego that these front three are going to lead the way.

The Star: Bryce Harper was on fire in the three game series as he went 4/11, but with two homeruns and a double. In the first three games, he's already accrued 0.38 WAR.

Matt Wieters: The veteran catcher was able to hit a homer run in Game 2 of the series off of Dallas Keuchel and had three hits in finale. He hit a sinker tailing away from him and lined it down the RF line just squeezing over the fence for his first home run. It was unusual to face three Left-Handed starters in a row and may sit a game out in the weekend series to give Kyle Skipworth a start.

              The Bad

Hitting Left-Handers: The Dodgers threw three straight lefties (Skaggs, Keuchel, and Moore) and we struggled to do any damage against them. Since our lineup is stacked with left handed hitters, we may struggle against our division rival. Brandon Crawford and Michael Conforto combined to hit .111 in the three game series.

The Defense: In three games, we've committed 4 errors with two of them by back-up infielder Jurickson Profar. He looks lost out there and may be headed back down to AAA if his defense doesn't improve.

              The Ugly

The Elephant in the Room: It stings when a bullpen leaves a starter out to dry with a no decision. It can hurt the morale of the team when people starting pointing fingers at who's to blame. Well, it happened twice in the first two games of the year. Thought of to be a solid group at worst, the bullpen completely let the starters down with Brett Cecil, Chasen Shreve, and Jeremy Jeffress being the main culprits. The trio gave up 7 runs in just two innings of work to start the year. The biggest sting was when Jeffress entered the ninth in the rubber game with us up 4-3 and left after recording only one out and a deficit of 6-4. They need to work through their struggles quickly.

Ryan Zimmerman: He stunk. That's all I can say. 0-12 with 1 BB and 7 K's. And this was against left-handers. Justin Bour may get a few more looks.

              -----------------------

Overall, it was a mixed bag of highs and lows, but it stinks to drop the opening series at home especially against the Dodgers.

Re: Official MLB The Show 16 Fantasy Draft Franchise Progress Thread

The Red Sox advance to the World Series after winning the ALCS by the count of 4 games to 1.

The pitching staff has really come on strong in the postseason...aside from Chris Sale...his struggles continued after leaving with a bruised ego...I mean...a bruise he suffered when he got nicked with a ball through the box.

That put Alex Reyes in the game...and he was solid. The surprisingly good outing from the youngster got the offense going and out to a nice lead. The Tigers would eventually get a couple runs off Reyes, but by then the Sox were up 9-4, which was the final score.

Kyle Schwarber has really picked up in the postseason. He hit 5 HR in the ALCS and is batting .420 in the playoffs so far. He's been a big contributor. Joey Gallo is picking up the production, too...now that someone is actually pitching to him. The Astros refused to, perhaps for good reason.

The Sox will face the Padres and see Kolten Wong again. Wong was traded off during the year and now will meet his former club in the Fall Classic.

Wonder if it will snow...it was cold enough for snow in the 5th game of the ALCS...33 degrees...at first pitch of a night game.

You should do a WS preview. Starters / lineups. Would be interesting to see what players end up on post season rosters from cpu teams

I just realized there's no lineup form. I could probably use the team stats table.

Edit: On second thought, that came out ugly. Will use depth chart form and put playoff stats with the players)

Re: Official MLB The Show 16 Fantasy Draft Franchise Progress Thread

The World Series is set to begin and the Red Sox will have to hope the power bats of Schwarber and Sano keep working. As has been the case most of the year, the power has driven the offense.

The exceptional play from those two has allowed the offense to weather having Carter continue to fall apart. His collapse is escalating on the biggest stage, certainly not winning any points if the team is indeed going to look for other options at the position.

Power is one big advantage the Sox have over the Padres on the stat sheet. The other is the speed advantage. Mateo gets the press for the wheels, but Smith and even Ichiro have some basestealing ability, and lately Russell has started getting in on the act. That's not counting Buxton on the bench.

Speaking of the bench, the Sox are pretty deep there in terms of utility. Not so much in terms of potent bats off the bench. Trumbo is the biggest when he doesn't start. Avery Romero is a decent contact hitter...but that's about it.

The Padres have utility there as well between Gregor Blanco and Craig Gentry, so late inning close games might give the Padres an advantage, especially when the series moves to San Diego.

The Padres have an advantage where they shouldn't...the bullpen. That's another area that's been on steady decline for the Sox. Herrera and Robles have been dreadful in the middle innings. Thank goodness Chapman has continued to dominate with Tazawa giving a helping hand when needed.

Winning or losing for the Sox will probably come down to the offense. Can the power bats keep it going? Can they get some consistent help from the rest of the lineup? That is their big advantage over the Padres and figures to be a key to the series.

                            I predict a Red Sox Title 4-1.

That Padres pitching staff looks weak and you should be able to mash on them. Good luck KB.

The month of April has come to a close. The Red's have already sustained some injuries, but were able to beat up on the other teams in the division en route to an 18-6 Record.

The Cardinals are rolling. Since the two major trades that netted Salvador Perez and Danny Salazar took place, the team has been on fire. With 2 straight walk off wins at home vs the Brewers the clubhouse is at a fever pitch and brimming with confidence. "We are just playing great baseball as a team" Bryce Harper said. "When our bats are cold, our pitching staff picks us up, then we get key plays and hits from guys like Brock (Holt), Ender and "The Kid" (Rookie Jacob Herzberg). Last night vs the Brewers Herzberg (who is filling in for the injured Francisco Lindor) hit into a would be 4-6-3 double play. However the kid hustled down the line and beat the throw from fellow rookie Trevor Story. He then proceeded to steal second base (his 16th swipe of the season in a very limited role spot starting and filling for injuries). Bryce Harper who had the day off came into pinch hit and smacked a single to center field that Herzberg would score the walk off winning run in the 11th inning. Ender Inciarte added 3 hits in 4 AB's including a game tying 390 foot HR to right field.

"It's a total team effort" said manager Mike Matheny. "We are playing sound baseball and I told the guys that we are only half way there". "We have a huge mountain to still climb if we want a shot at a World Series title".

The Cardinals are looking to extend their 2.5 game lead in the NL central (The Reds have been hot on their tale all season) before the AS break as they are in the midst of a 10 game home stand heading to the break. A full mid season report is forth coming. Here are some tidbits out of the Cardinals clubhouse.

Francisco Lindor is on the mend after straining his rib cage making an amazing diving play (for an out) vs The Royals. He is expected back in a few more days. rookie Jacob Herzberg has been filling in and playing great. Herzberg was in danger of being demoted in June, but he has raised his Batting average 28 points in the last 3 weeks to .235 and continues to be invaluable as defensive sub late in games as well as spot starter and pinch runner.

Bryce Harper and Greg Bird are on pace for 40 HR's and over 100 RBI's each.

Maikel Franco has been on fire. In the month of June his bat came alive. he is now hitting .300 with 10 HR's and 38 RBI's

Pitcher Daniel Norris made his first start of the season for the Red Birds in The Show. He replaced Steven Matz whose turn was skipped as he worked on some mechanic issues. Norris tossed a gem and will go back to long relief as Matz will make his next scheduled start.

Ichiro is now 33 hits away from 3000. History is forth coming for the wily veteran.

In the All-Star voting the following players have a great shot at making the team:

                                Bruce Harper
                                Salvador Perez
                                Starling Marte
                                Danny Salazar
                                Dellin Betances

                                Outside shot:

Greg Bird (lot's of competition at 1B)
