Cardinals take 2 of 3 from Halo's in LA staying in town to face the Dodgers

Maikel Franco found his power stroke vs The Angels

May 13th - The Cardinals were able to take two of three to start their West Coast swing. Carlos Rondon and Steven Matz earned the wins and Jason Hamel was a hard luck loser. Maikel Franco found his power stroke to hit only his 2nd HR of the season. Greg Bird continues to put up monster numbers as he added 2 more HR's and 7 RBI's as his torrid start continues.

Manager Mike Matheny though indicated some changes would happen in the batting order heading into Chavez Ravine. Starling Marte will replace Ender Inciarte as the lead off hitter and Inciarte will be dropped down the order to 8th. Ender has not been able to get anything going since coming off the disabled list.

The Red Birds are still clinging to a 1.5 game lead in the central.

      Rotation Cursed? Roark Goes Down

Someone must have put a hex on the Red Sox pitching rotation.

Now, Tanner Roark will miss up to four weeks with a strained pectoral muscle.

"It's the kids' rotation now, " Farrell commented, "Chris [Sale] should be back soon, thankfully, but it will still be him, R.A. [Dickey] and three young kids in the rotation. How they do will determine a lot of what this stretch will be like."

Those kids at this moment look to be Alex Reyes, Brandon Finnegan, and Jose Berrios, who was called up to replace Roark. Urias remains in long relief for now, but his consistent struggles will likely see him sent to Pawtucket and Dylan Bundy can be the fodder in long relief once Sale returns.

Even then, the rotation order is a complete mess. Reyes is #1 because he was rested when Sale went down. Once Sale returns, he'll fit where ever the rested pitcher is and every else will move around.

Eventually, when Walker returns, Berrios will see his stint end for the time being, so now's a good time for him to make a good impression.

Berrios was promoted over Carson Fullmer, a similarly rated prospect, because of AAA production. But nothing is assured.

      Including dodging the injury curse.

Oh boy...I hope this isn't a sign of things to come.

          Just got skunked 14-0. Reyes gave up 10 H, 8 R in 3 innings.

He gave up 4 home runs...3 to Corey Seager, who ended up with 9 RBI.

          @ Alex Reyes

Cubs @ D'Backs Series Recap: Cubs Split 4 Game Series, 2-2.

            Game 1 Already Covered

Game 2: Cubs suffer first loss in heartbreaking fashion. The game went to extras, and in the top of the 11th, Wilson Ramos pinch hit for the cubs and gave them a 1-run lead. However, with a tired arm on the mound, Manager Joe Maddon decided to stick with Antonio Bastardo, who gave up a 3 run blast to Mark Texiera. D Backs win 5-3 in 11

Game 3: Another absolute heartbreaker. Cubs rookie phenom Shohei Otani took the mound and dominated, giving up only 1 run in 6.1 innings, which that run came on an error by outfielder Nelson Cruz, who lost sight of a ball and led to a triple. The suicide squeeze was then put on, and the cubs could not salvage any runs. D'Backs win 1-0.

Game 4: Bit of a lucky break for the Cubs, as starting pitcher Garrett Richards got hurt for the D'Backs in the first inning and was taken off the field. The Cubs pounced early, scoring 2 in the first and fourth innings, giving Clayton Kershaw plenty of cushion. Kershaw gets his 2nd straight complete game, and improves to 2-0. Cubs win 4-1.

            Record: 5-2.
Upcoming: 3 game series v Reds, @ Wrigley Field!

            NEWS

Kris Bryant finally breaks out of his slump, as he continues to heat up against the reds in game 1 at Wrigley.

NELSON CRUZ may be put on the trade block. His hitting is fine, nothing special good or bad, however his fielding errors are adding up and the Cubs may be looking to move him.

Awesome updates guys!! I've been show deprived as of late, as I'm in the process of moving. Getting back on tonight finally! Unfortunately all of this time away from the game has got me second guessing my roster, so I think the first order of buisness will be a redraft (still gonna be the Astros)

              AND...

Kb you've gotta have the worst luck when it comes to injuries. (Too bad you can't fire the medical staff!)

                Okay. Nelson Cruz update.

Do I trade Cruz straight up for Carlos Gonzalez OR
Do I trade Cruz and a prospect (A or B pot) for Jason Heyward

Re: Official MLB The Show 16 Fantasy Draft Franchise Progress Thread

The Astros had the 16th overall pick in the draft, and selected Carlos Correa in the first round. Two things are apparent after the draft, there are A LOT of Texans on this roster, and there are some mighty prospects coming up the pipeline.

Catcher is most certainly a position of depth throughout the organization, with 5 players capable of handling the load at the Major League Level.

1st Base is another area that is deep. With Mark Teixeira & Steve Pearce holding down the 1B/DH for Houston. Down on the farm, AJ Reed hopes to make enough noise to force someones hand. Tommy Joseph sits behind Reed on the depth chart, and although not as heralded as Reed, Joseph's bat might force Houston's hand.

                    Projected Lineup Versus Righties
                    LF Brandon Guyer (R)
                    CF Adam Jones (R)

                    PROSPECT OUTLOOK
Jeff Luhnow is quite pleased with the prospects he was able to secure during the draft, as Houston has 3 of the top 50 prospects in the game.

Starting Pitchers; Zach Lee (A), Michael Fulmer (A)
                    1B: AJ Reed (B), Tommy Joseph (C)
SS: Alex Bregman (A) --- Bregman will be playing 3B primarily at AAA Fresno. The plan all along has been to let Bregman get a year in at AAA to replace Freese at seasons end, but Bregman can always change that.

Overall the Astros organization is looking pretty deep, with interesting pieces in the minors such as RP Matt Bush, SP Jarrod Parker, RF Seth Smith, C's Carson Kelly & John Ryan Murphy, and the disappointment that has been 3B Alex Guerrero.

                        ASTROS WIN 9-1

Homer Bailey(1-0 1.23) flat out dominated the Yankees. The same cannot be said for his counter-part Tyson Ross (0-1 13.54). Bailey was nearly unhittable (allowing only a double to Kris Bryant in the 4th) until the 8th inning. The strikeouts may have played into a bit of fatigue, and Bailey allowed a solo home run to Jason Castro, followed by a single. Bailey was pulled at this point, and left the game with a line score of 7.1 IP 3H 1R 11K. Scott Feldman pitched 1.2 innings of relief allowing 1 hit and striking out 1. The Astros bats came alive quickly scoring 2 runs in the first and another 2 in the second. The 5th inning proved to be the end of Tyson Ross's day, as he allowed 2 runs to score on a Carlos Correa double. Even after heading into the locker room, Ross couldn't escape the scoring barrage, as Mark Teixeira hit his 2nd 2 run homer of the even off of Relief Pitcher David Phelps on his first pitch of the evening. In all, the Astro's hit 5 home runs on opening day.

When asked about his team's performance, Manager AJ Hinch said "When Homer is locked in like he was this afternoon, you don't need 9 runs to win. It was a good team win, but theres 161 games to go. It's a long season, but it's always nice to get that first win.

                        MILESTONE WATCH
Mark Teixeira clubbed 2 homeruns, bringing his career total to 396. The countdown to 400!

                        NEXT UP

Clay Buchholz (0-0) takes the mound versus Drew Smyly (0-0) in game two of this three game series.

Seriously. Don't know how we're holding it together, but so far so...decent. At least until we go on another 2-8 stretch or something. Can't believe we've had two 10-game win streaks before the All-Star break...and still lead by just 2 games and have only a decent-but-not-great record.

                                ASTROS LOSE 4-3

What a game, what a game! Clay Buchholz (0-1 6.00) pitched a bit better than his line would suggest, and aside from a 3 run 6th inning, looked to at least have a chance at the victory. The Yankees scored a run in the first, and Drew Smyly (1-0 1.29) was flat out dealing. Smyly's line wound up being 7IP 4H 1R 2BB 7K. The Astros pushed one run across in the 7th. In the 8th, Sergio Romo came on and surrendered a 2 out 2 run homer to Mark Teixeira. This is Teixeira's 3rd home run of the series, pushing him within 3 long balls of 400 on his career.

                                NEXT UP
Lance McCullers (0-0) faces Marco Estrada (0-0) in the rubber game of the series. The Astro's will than travel to Milwaukee to finish out the road trip in a 3 game series, before the much awaited home opener versus Kansas City.
