Re: MLB 17: Little Things Thread
This isn't verbatim, but I just heard it as I was in the 12th inning of my game and cracked up enough to try and type it out. Vasgersian said:

Re: MLB 17: Little Things Thread
I've played a game and a half so far and severs RTTS games so far and a few innings of retro mode.
-Love the animations, they look better than ever and very realistic.
-Some of the player faces are almost freaky cause they look so real.
-During one at bat I checked my swing and took what I thought was a ball, my batter in one smooth motion went from checking his swing to tossing the bat and strutting down to first base. Took me a few seconds to realize he got hit with the pitch on his foot. It probably wasn't by design and my guy really did get hit but the animation looked a lot like when you see a guy almost get hit by a pitch and he starts going to first trying to sell to the ump that he got hit.
-For this of you that are in your thirties or older, have you noticed all the similarities between retro mode and Ken Griffey Jr Present MLB from Super Nintendo? Obviously the game play is basically ode ticket which I expected, what I didn't expect was all the other similarities: background music that sounds very similar, the same "homerun" text that slides across the screen after hitting a finger, the player rating system, even the pause menu looks similar (at least the scoreboard does between innings). Haven't had any collisions at the plate yet but very curious to see if it will have the same runner/catcher collisions. I got chills playing retro mode.Comment

Yeah that one has been in the game for years.

Re: MLB 17: Little Things Thread
The commentary is a huge upgrade I feel like. I was playing a game last night and the CPU pitcher kept throwing breaking balls and Plesac says "You know, it seems like this guy has lost confidence in himself, I can't remember the last time he threw his fastball." The very next pitch thrown was a fastball that resulted in a strikeout and Plesac says in a very matter-of-a-fact way, "Well, there was that fastball..."Comment

Re: MLB 17: Little Things Thread
Had runners on first and second and hit a hard grounder to short, as my runner was going from second to third he dodged the ball, can't remember if that's been in previous games but it looked amazing.Comment

Re: MLB 17: Little Things Thread
Hit a ball that bounced right off the 2nd base bag and into center field for a hit..I've hit the mound many times and 3rd base, but never 2nd..Comment

Re: MLB 17: Little Things Thread
Threw a wild pitch and the ball bounced off the wall behind the plate and richicheted all the way over to to end end of the dugout (not the end of the dougout closer to home plate, it stopped at the end by third base). It was pretty cool but also can't remember ever seeing a wild pitch bounce that far away in real life.Comment

Re: MLB 17: Little Things Thread
This thread gets long very quickly, which is a testament to how much SDS clearly loves the game. IDK if this was in last year, but the shots of managers giving signs add a lot for me. Very cool little thing.Last edited by RogueHominid; 03-29-2017, 04:27 PM.Comment

Re: MLB 17: Little Things Thread
I just have to say...for the last two or three years, I've sent in requests with pictures of the Citgo sign that is outside of Fenway Park to be lit up as it is in real life. In previous versions, the sign is just there with no lighting, so at night, you don't even really notice it.
For those who have attended any games in person at Fenway, it is one of the characteristics that gives Fenway its personality and charm. Ironically, it isn't even part of the ballpark, or really the surrounding neighborhood, as it sits a few blocks away but is still visibly due to its size and neon glow.
After receiving a "like" by Ramone in my last request for this in the 'Ballparks' thread, I had a pretty good feeling that it may get done for '17.
Upon completing the install process for the game, I went and started a quick evening game between the Yanks and Red Sox at Fenway as I always do. And to my pleasant surprise, as the game progressed to the later innings, there was the Citgo sign lit up in white horizontal neon lines as it is in real life.
While I'm excited to see this in the game, I'm just as excited about the fact that SDS has chosen to embrace the feedback by the folks on OS and create a collaborative atmosphere. They put themselves out there and really can't be thanked enough for doing so. I work in the software industry and this approach is NOT common at all.
Bravo SDS...Bravo!Comment

Re: MLB 17: Little Things Thread
As far as in-game little things...
I'm walking a little more and seeing more pitches with each batter. Not sure if I can relate that to the framerate increase or something else.
In the last two days, I've hit the two longer HR's I've ever had.
1. Hit a 548 foot bomb with Chris Davis to right field at Fenway that went over the rooftop box seats and out of the stadium (saved a video). Vasgersian made a comment that it's one of the longest Home Runs they've ever seen (or something along those lines)
2. Hit a 491 foot bomb with Robbie Cano at Safeco Field that went into the seats above the Hit It Here Cafe. I sat on a pitch and got what I was looking for in the exact location.
A couple other cool things:
Lined a shot at Jurickson Profar (who was just subbed in at SS). The ball ate him up and ricocheted off of his should and into shallow left. Seen this exact play happen to infielders and it was so realistic.
Hit a ball into the gap in right-center with a right-handed batter (Lucroy). Was awesome to see the ball fade away from the Centerfielder
The stances are on point this year. As someone who is usually a stickler for accuracy in stances and tends to spend ALOT of time updating them after OSFM comes out, this year I don't think I will need to. Only one I saw where I still felt it wasn't accurate to the real life stance was Carlos Gonzalez.
Only area that looks like it could use a fair amount of love in the next Dev cycle is uniforms. For several teams (mostly with red and black) the colors still seem somewhat faded. And the numbers and team names and logos on the jerseys could stand to "pop" a bit more. But in all honesty, that is nitpicking with all things considered.Comment
