Re: MLB The Show 17 Franchise Discussion Thread

My first complete Franchise effort after playing this game since "the day" resulted in a world championship. My version of Indians overcame a poor start and a semi-rough August. My Tribe went 7 to beat the Red Sox in the ALCS, then beat the Cinderella Diamondbacks in 6.

In the real world I pulled off 3 trades that might not have happened:

Acquired Michael Pineda and Brett Gardner from the Yankess for Danny Salazar, Addison Reed for prospects and Andrew Heaney for prospects.

Now for my first offseason. I have no clue what I'm doing.

I have a question for any franchise player, what is the best way to play your franchise if you don't want to play all 162? do you just pick a pitcher and just play all his games? do you play 1 sim 5? what's the best way to go about it? thanx fellas.

I am in year 2 of my diamondbacks franchise. I traded greinke first year for gleyber Torres. He is my starting SS this year. I resigned almost everyone including JD Martinez but he is out with a fractured shin for 1-2 months. I am currently 10-8. I will be streaming on twitch at about 4:30-5pm est. Re: MLB The Show 17 Franchise Discussion Thread

Well guys... After spending 35-40 minutes typing up a post to introduce my franchise, my internet abandoned ship and decided to stop working... So I lost everything.

However, Let me give you a jist of what I'll be doing and I'll introduce my roster throughout the course of my next post or so.

I decided to start a franchise with the Royals with the most recent Offseason roster. In addition to that, I took some real life top 10 available free agents and added them to random teams. I picked teams out of a hat and that player went to that team.

2017 was our roster overhaul and turnover period.. I decided to Clean house and try to get a fresh start. We finished the year with a 77-85 record and failed to make the postseason(at no surprise)

            Onto 2018....
I started the season, playing 1-3 games a week, simulating the rest. We are off a 4-2 record.
Here's the base of our roster, our top players..
            - LF Christian Yelich
            - SP Carlos Martinez
            - C Salvador Perez
            - CP Kelvin Herrera
            - 3B/2B Jung Ho Kang

With so much effort put into my last post and losing it, I kind of lost interest on this post so I will fill voids of the rest of my roster in my next post. I want to include Rotation, Bullpen, Position Players and current top prospects.

I look forward to filling you in on my continuing franchise.

              New Franchise-Orioles 2017
              Roster- Realism Roster
              Sliders- Mike Lowe

              First Week-

Opening Day started with a bang! Schoop our 2B started the season with 7 RBI's! We swept our 2 game series with the Jays at home. We out scored them 26-14. I felt good about my at bats and felt horrible with our starting pitching. I have 3 guys in our bullpen that I trust

              Mychal Givens RP 26 81OVR
              Darren O'Day RP 34 79OVR
              Zach Britton CP 29 85OVR

After that its a crap shoot. The good feelings though didnt last... The Yankees came to town and swept us in a 3 game set. We only scored 8 runs in 3 games... Chapman was lights out earning a save in 2 of the 3 games. Now its onto our first Road trip of the young season,2 @ BOS 4 @ TOR 3 @ CIN

Game 1 @ BOS Gausman (1-0) vs Rick Porcello (0-0)
Game 2 @ BOS Dylan Bundy (0-0) vs Drew Pomeranz (1-0)

I dont want to tear down the roster until after the first season, hopefully catch lightning in a bottle and make the playoffs, if we fail this season there may be some big changes come the offseason.

                Sliders- OSFM mike lowe 2.9

The offseason: after winning the 2016 world series and losing most of the bullpen and some bench players to free agency and retirement. It was time to see what we could aquire via trade to build a power house and repeat as champions.
                Aquired via Trade:
                Lance McCullers-SP
                Vince Velasquez-SP
                Tyler Chatwood-LRP
                Daniel Norris-LRP
                Michael Feliz-MRP
                Mychal Givens-SU
                Roberto Osuna-CL
                Ender Inciarte-CF
                Mallex Smith-Bench/PR

                Players traded away:
                John Lackey
                Pedro Strop
                Hector Rondon
                William Perez
                Wade Davis
                Leonys Martin
                Jon Jay
                Koji Uehara
                Brian Duensing
                Mike Montgomery
                Kyle Hendricks
I aquired Kelvin Herrera who was flipped for Mychal Givens

I know alot of people would be like why would you trade these players, but i am not only building to win right now but building a 10 plus year dynasty.

                Starting Rotation:
                1.Jake Arrieta
                2.Jon Lester
                3.Lance McCullers
                4.Jose Quintana
                5.Vince Velasquez

                Bullpen:
                LRP-Tyler Chatwood
                LRP-Daniel Norris
                MRP-Carl Edwards Jr
                MRP-Michael Feliz
                SU-Mychal Givens
                SU-Justin Wilson
                CL-Roberto Osuna

                Lineup:
                1. Ender Inciarte-CF
                2. Kris Bryant-3B
                3. Anthony Rizzo-1B
                4. Willson Contreras-C
                5. Kyle Schwarber-LF
                6. Addison Russell-SS
                7. Jason Heyward-RF
                8. Javier Baez-2B

                Bench:
                1. Mallex Smith
                2. Alex Avila
                3. Ian Happ
                4. Ben Zobrist
                5. Albert Almora Jr.

I feel really good about the team all around. Feel like we will compete for years to come stay tune for the first week of the season results. I will be playing every game and should have the season and playoffs done before MLB the show 18 comes out.

Re: MLB The Show 17 Franchise Discussion Thread

It was a great first week of baseball and the team came to preform....I was mostly worried that the youngness of my players would play a fact but that wasn't the case in week 1 of the 2017 season.

We played 6 games on the road to open the season 3 in St. Louis and 3 in Milwaukee. We set the tempo of the new season on game one as we had Jake Arrieta on the mound against Carlos Martinez. Arrieta went 9 innings allowed 2 hits on the complete game shutout. Arrieta was given a 6 run lead early thanks to Jason Heyward's homerun and 4 RBI'S.

                  Cubs- 8
                  Cardinals- 0

In game 2 of the 3 game set Jon Lester was spotted a early 5 run lead only to give up 5 runs of his own in 6 innings of work. The bullpen held the game tied for 10 innings until we got matt bowman for 2 runs in the 11th and then brought in Osuna for his first save as a cub.

                  Cubs- 7
                  Cardinals- 5

Game 3 saw Lance McCullers make his cubs debut and he did not disappoint. McCullers pitched 6 innings of 2 hit 1 run baseball while striking out 5. In the 7th Tyler chatwood made his cubs debut and was tattooed for 3 runs in 2 innings of work while striking out 2. The redbirds would go on to take this final game of the series.

                  Cubs- 1
                  Cardinals- 4

After taking 2 out of 3 in St. Louis the cubs headed to Milwaukee looking to take game one of a three game set with the brew crew.

Game one saw the cubs jump out early with a 1st inning 2 run shot from Kris Bryant. Jose Quintana showed thats all he would need as he held the brew crew scoreless through 8 innings on 2 hits. Carl Edwards Jr would come in the 9th and close the game out as the cubs took game one.

                  Cubs- 6
                  Brewers- 0

Game two saw Vince Velasquez make his cubs debut and he did not disappoint as he went 7 innings giving up only 2 runs but was not factored in the decision as the cubs needed ten innings to close this one out. Osuna got the save but gave up 1 run while striking out 2.

                  Cubs- 5
                  Brewers- 3

the third and final game of this series was a Pitchers duel as Jake Arrieta and Chase Anderson Battled it out. Both pitchers were on point going 7 innings only allowing 1 run each. The cubs brought in Carl Edwards Jr in the 8th and he would give up the go ahead run while getting 2 strikeouts.

                  Cubs- 1
                  Brewers- 2

Overall not a bad way to start the season, by taking 4 out of 6 on the road and two division rivals at that. We come home for our home opener against the Dodgers for a 2016 NLCS rematch. we will have a 9 Game home stand in which i will update once all 9 games are done.

                  Dodgers series preview:
                  Lester vs Wood
                  McCullers vs Hill
                  Quintana vs Maeda

May only be a few games in but feeling really good about the future of this Dynasty.

Sitting at 41-25 with the Giants. 2.5 games up in the division over the DBacks. Won 5 straight with a series finale coming up against the brewers. Made a few trades and signings with keeping the team under budget. Hunter Pence has been on a cold streak for a while so I called up Chris Shaw to plantoon LF with Pence. Lineup and rotation looks as such

                    CF 7 George Springer
                    SS 35 Brandon Crawford
                    RF 22 Andrew McCutchen
                    1B 9 Brandon Belt
                    3B 10 Evan Longoria
                    C 28 Buster Posey
                    2B 12 Joe Panik
LF 43 Chris Shaw/8 Hunter Pence

                    3B 16 Mike Moustakis
                    2B 6 Brandon Phillips
                    C 5 Nick Hundley
                    OF 14 Austin Jackson

                    40 MadBum
                    60 Dallas Keuchel
                    49 Jake Arrieta
                    29 Jeff Samardzija
                    34 Chris Stratton

                    Closer 13 Will Smith

Joe Panik is leading the majors with a .361 avg.

MadBum and Keuchel are tied for league lead in wins with 9

Recently signed Eduardo Nunez to add depth to my bench and traded for Billy Burns and moved George Springer to LFwhich he was injured the next gbut was only Day to Day and missed 4 games. Started Nunez in place of Springer and he’s been playing well. First game went 3-4 with 2 RBIs, 2 SB and missed the cycle by a homerun.

So, every season in my franchise winds up with my cash flow stuck around 300-400k/week... get the message I can't afford them or I get this new note saying I am "over my player budget". I already signed plenty of FA's already, have a full 40-man roster and no holes/coaches to fill. When the new season begins, I am able to spend the cash flow + bank on these subpar FA's. Why can't I just use that money during the Free Agent period? It is roughly 7 to 9 million in cash flow I can't spend. Any help would be appreciated!

There is one game left in the 2021 regular season and the Rays have already wrapped up the division. It has been an interesting year so far for the Rays. There were rumors at the start of the year about the Rays trying to trade their 2B Gonzalez because they were worried about his defense. After about a month into the season they decided to keep him since he was putting up great numbers hitting and was just going to live with the errors that came with him out on the field. Longo is still a big piece for this team at the age of 35 and is only 4 home runs short of 400. The team doesn't know if Longo will be back for the 2022 season but have already made it clear if Longo wants to play they will gladly welcome him back.

Here's the playoff teams this year.

                            A.L.

Well after playing this series every year since 2006, and playing most of the time with the Cardinals, Dodgers or Red Sox........never winning it all or really having anything fabulous happen.

I decided to start a new franchise with the Padres as a rebuild. I finished spring training and knew that it was going to be a long hard pull, the Padres are in need of a lot of things......although they have some good prospect starting pitchers in AA and I brought Lamet to MLB as a #3 starter. They are in need of a couple of big bats, as well needing time for the younguns to develop.

Opening day found the Boys in LA for a four game series with the Dodgers. Kershaw has been one of those guys that I can hit.....but I can’t seem to beat. This game was not any different as the Padres could only muster one run on four hits and lost 2-1.

Game 2 Strahm SD vs Wood LA.
Finally after 11 years, of nothing spectacular happening, with really good teams. I managed to throw my first no-hitter against the mighty Dodgers. A lone walk in the 4th inning was the only blemish from it being a perfect game. As the Padres small balled the Dodgers to a 4-0 victory.

Strahm finished his no-hit performance allowing 1 walk and striking out 7. We did lose Erick Aybar in the game with a broken hand, estimated 1-2 months recovery and he sits on the 10 day DL.

It has been a crazy ALDS for the Rays so far as they are facing the Angels. The past 4 games there has been two blowouts and 2 close games.

Game 1 saw Matt Moore (12-8) going against Gerrit Cole (15-8). It didn't go well for Moore at home as he only lasted 4.2 innings and allowed 8 earned runs along with 3 walks. The Rays offense was no where to be seen the entire game. The only run for the Rays came from a Clint Frazier home run in the 7th inning. On the Angels side Cole pitched a solid 8 innings and striking out 6 batters. The one who led the Angels on offense was their CF Alcantara who went 3 for 5 with a single, triple, and a home run along with 4 RBI's.

Game 2 had Burch Smith (14-4) on the mound for the Rays and he went 6.1 innings allowing only 2 earned runs and walked 3 batters. For the Angels they had Trevor Bauer (17-11) pitching and like Moore only lasted for 4.2 innings as he gave up 5 earned runs but struck out 7. Fuentues was the one who made the big play when it counted for the Rays as he drove in 3 with a big home run in the 5th inning putting the Rays up 5-1. The Angels were able to cut it to a 5-3 lead in the 8th thanks to RBI's from Calhoun in the 7th and Alcantara in the 8th. The Rays called upon Steven Okert who led the A.L in Saves (54) to close the door and he did just that as the Rays won it 5-3.

Game 3 was L.A. and Sean Newcomb (10-8) was on the mound for the Angels. He went 6 innings and only allowed 2 earned runs. The Rays put Enny Romero (10-11) out there and the manager Cooper probably left Romero in there too long. Romero went 5 innings and gave up 5 earned runs as well. The Angels got out to a 5-2 lead after the 5th inning and by the time the top of the 9th inning rolled around it was 6-3 for L.A. The Angels brought in Zach Britton (33 saves) to close it out and the Rays weren't even able to get a man on base in the 9th.

Game 4 saw Alex Cobb (16-7) going up against his former team and the Rays didn't want to be eliminated by a guy who was once a big part of their team. Cobb just didn't have it on that night only going 3.0 innings and gave up 5 earned runs. The guy that came in for Cobb didn't fair well either as Richards (5-12) gave up 8 earned runs in 3.2 innings. The Rays had their rookie pitcher Dylan Flores (13-7) out there for his first playoff game. There were some rumors that the Rays may give Moore the start since it was an elimination game but trusted Flores to get the job done and he did just that. Flores pitched a complete game shutout and struck out 10 batters while only allowing 2 hits. It's too difficult to pick a player that had the most impact for the Rays since the entire lineup contributed in a big way.

Game 5 is scheduled for Thursday at 7:05 in Tampa and the projected starters for both teams are Duane Underwood (12-9) for the Rays and Gerrit Cole (15-8) for the Angels.

The Detroit Tigers are awaiting the winner of the Rays-Angels and will likely be well rested since they swept the Boston Red Sox. In the N.L. Washington and the Chicago Cubs are both tied at 2 a piece as well as the Padres and Dodgers.
