Yea him and the guy with brightness at 60 with our tv models as well. I've told them. Apparently I was telling them they were wrong and I was right. So I'm not letting people enjoy their sets....

Yeah like the Samsung has HDR+ which is not HDR and you do not want to use that. Turn it off and never look at it again.

Does anyone with the sony xd800 49 inch tv have any good settings for hdr that does not wash out the color? I have been trying and can not get it to look right.

If there is one thing The Show 17 has taught me, between this thread, the PS4 vs PS4 Pro thread, and the polar opposite comments from people on OG PS4 regarding framerate, it's that beauty truly is in the eye of the beholder. I feel like 10 different people can look at the game running on the same display/console version and have different opinions on how it looks and runs lol

I couldn't play with the grass looking like that. It's a dead giveaway something is wrong. This is just a still photo from a video I took but i hope it shows what the colors should somewhat look like.

P.S. I have the Costco curved version of the KS8000, the KS850D.
I'm taking my KU7000 back and getting the KS8500. Thank you.

Re: MLB The Show 17 Supports 4K & HDR on PS4 Pro

For those wondering about TV purchases, I've had both the KS8000 and the KU6300 in my house with the PS4 Pro. I started with the 55KS8000 and it's a great picture and I had no issues with it. However, I found that I could squeeze in another 5 inches of TV into my built-in cabinets and still articulate the mount.

So, it was either $1299 for the 60KS8000 (this was in November) or roughly $700 for the 60KU6300. I went with the lower cost model and there is definitely a drop in brightness/range with the KU6300 but I'm overall very content with the TV, and yes, size is a huge factor in judging TV's in real world conditions.

I posted before what I had to do to the KU6300 to make HDR work correctly, and so far, it's worked really well in a variety of ballparks. Note - other games (Ghost Recon, Uncharted) did not have this issue with changing intensity.

Overall - very happy with the KU6300 if anyone is in the market.

Brightness controls black level and shadow detail. You want it low enough so that your black levels don't rise or cause dithering, but you also want it bright enough so that blacks don't perceptibly crush unto themselves. Leave enough brightness in the image to reproduce subtle details in dark picture areas.

If your television doesn't already have them (or if the game doesn't), find some test patterns online and throw them up on your set, such as this one:

In the first one, there is a THX logo in the middle of the picture. If you can't see it on your TV, it's already too dark as is. You should be able to even barely see the drop-shadow behind that logo on your set. Start your brightness from 50 and play around with that. Make sure you do this with your Cell Light maxed out, and in a dark room.

Contrast separates the lightest lights the darkest darks. In other words, if Brightness is about controlling the blacks, Contrast is about controlling the whites. If you have it at 100, you risk your your whites clipping. Also, Samsung sets have a history of whites pinking on contrast levels past 95, so I'd probably hover more between 90-95 there anyway to be safe.

Not the best checkerboard pattern here, but at the very least, make sure that you can clearly distinguish the eight rectangles in this one:

Once you tweak one, the other will have to be adjusted as well.

As for color, as I said, try and leave it at 50 if you possibly can. There are color adjustments all around these sets that can be had for further accuracy, but try and leave that one there to acclimate yourself. I know some people don't want us to interject our opinions around here, but analogously you bought a Ferrari and you're only an off-road driver, or you bought a speaker system for a library. Just make sure you let that television get its due diligence.

I think the main problem, really, is that you went to tweak one thing and then you tried to fix issues by changing the others instead of digging at the root. Like a kid in baseball who is stepping out, and you try to fix it by starting him batting closed, getting nearer to the plate, getting him a longer bat, and if all else fails changing him to the other side of the plate or making him bunt... when all we really had to do was address his issue of stepping out instead of side-skirting it.

I think the enhanced graphics mode provides enough frame rate and looks pretty good.

For one, if you look at pic of the crowd, the blues are on top of each other. You're not seeing the edges well. With some added brightness, you should have more separation. You should be seeing better shades of blue. Not just deep blue. Doesn't hurt to at least try. Let me know. Or take another pic with brightness at@40-45.

rtings.com and avsforums and every place I've read has said brightness should be 45 to 50 and visually that looks accurate to me as well. they take into account the backlight max, smart led high and HDR10 on when they say it should be 45-50.
