That is how I get it to look good without dynamic contrast on. Let me know if this works for you.
I have a KS8000. When you do this, does the picture turn very bright? I also have dynamic contrast off. To get more pop, I increased color to 60.

Pretty bright yes. Is that bad? It goes from being way too dark to pretty darn bright but I don't know if it's too bright. How about you?

That's the thing, I don't know if that is normal, at least for this particular game. When HDR is activated from other sources, the picture gets bright, but not overly. The game looks great on this set regardless if HDR is working correctly or not. I'm just curious as to how HDR should look in the game. Maybe SDS didn't know exactly how to calibrate HDR properly, which is to be expected considering its their first time implementing it. I'm sure next year, it will be. But for this installment, it's not going to stop me from loving this game because it deserves a lot of love.

I would think so because when HDR is activated on other sources, the TV brightens. But I hear some saying for this game that if it's too bright, it means it's not working. Plus there is mention of a bug that HDR has to be reset in game. I appreciate San Diego Studios for implementing this technology, but I think they should do without the intensity slider next year. It seems to complicate things.

HDR expands on the colors that you see as well as the contrast between the dark and bright parts of the screen. With that said, if you are seeing a wide variety of colors (shades) plus really good contrast between varying aspects of the game then it should be working fine. It appears that the slider was implemented because not every TV follows the same HDR standards, but I do agree that the slider just adds more confusion and complexity.

Here is a blurb from CNET on what exactly HDR is used for, maybe it can clear things up more:

TV HDR: Expanding the TV's contrast ratio and color palette to offer a more realistic, natural image than what's possible with today's HDTVs.

It's crazy. I'm having no issues with my 9000 series Samsung.

Yeah honestly I have been pretty fascinated by this thread. When I do eventually get an HDR display I will at least have a lot of good notes from this thread to fall back on

                    I have a Sony XBR-65X900C

I can confirm that adjusting the HDR Slider in the game makes a HUGE DIFFERENCE

Once you are into a game with HDR mode ON, before the first pitch....pause the game and turn down the HDR Intensity slider....then return to the game....then pause and turn the HDR Intensity slider back up to max or whatever your happy place is and the game looks much more vibrant.

I guess my question about this is: is this working as intended or is something wrong?

It's a bug, once you go into the HDR menu it messes up the picture, makes it extremely bright, washed out and over saturated. To fix it you'll have to exit the game and restart it completely.

Really annoying because I like checking out camera angles and don't even need with the HDR but it still screws up the picture and you have to restart it. Hope this is fixed soon..

Many are starting to think this is how it's intended to work and it's not. Like you, I agree that it gets extremely bright and washed out but whatever floats your boat right? I'm beyond happy with how The Show looks on my KS8500 as the TV has been one of my better purchases along with the pro.

I have this tv as well and I keep D.C. Off and don't see the issues you're mentioning. Maybe it's a few other settings?
