Yeah post #923..here they are again

First things first..go to picture, then expert settings and make sure the UHD color is on for whatever port your PS4 is connected to.

Then next, settings > Picture > Special Viewing Mode: Game mode on

    Backlight 20

    Brightness 45

    Contrast at 95

    Sharpness at 0

    Color at 50.

    Tint 50

    Smart led High

    Black level auto

    Resolution at auto

    Dynamic contrast off.

    Color tone warm 1

    Gamma 0

    Color space auto

PS4 - set all visual options to AUTO, do the test when done to verify everything 4K and HDR is working and supported as they should be.

P.S. you will see a setting in the picture menu called HDR+, ignore it and do not turn it on, it's a Samsung thing they came up with to try to make non-HDR content better. You will not be using this feature if you know what's good for you.

Didn't realize after all this time everyone is using "Game mode". I've always used HDR+.

With HDR off, there is so much more pop, clarity, the uniform colors are perfect, nothing looks "off"

With HDR on and I have tried the slider all over the place, tweaked the display settings on my TV....the colors of everything (uniforms, stadiums, etc) are just off and things seem to have this strange tint to them, some things are way too dark....it just doesn't make sense

I just looked up your set on Rtings and according to them your set has 340nits which is very low and HDR at 1080p has input lag at 70ms and 4k HDR is 100ms input lag. In my honest and humble opinion it's probably best you don't use HDR.

The trend I'm noticing in these threads and on this site is most people that aren't seeing any OR little benefits have TVs with low nits for HDR. And, everyone that has the ks8000/8500 and above or some other comparable models at this price range or higher are seeing big differences and a beautiful picture both here on this site and AVSforums. The ks8000 has been measured to go over 1300nits which is the reason why it has the "Premium UHD" stamp.

I've seen huge differences in both movies and games with HDR. The TV you have plays a huge role in the quality of HDR you get and how substantial and perceivable the difference will be.

The Sony XBR43X800D is a huge difference with HDR on but for some reason last night, it went off and the slider wouldn't do a thing. Looked same at 1 to max.

Low nit tvs will look just fine I believe, people are just trying to crank the slider too much. You have to keep it low. If you think it looks worse, it's deff off in your setup.

When I say low I mean even under 25%. It matters for sure.

EDIT:: Got it fixed, not sure what was going on - Here are some more shots this time at Wrigley and one Redsox.

I do agree with Artman that when you have HDR off, sometimes the white pants have way too much shine. With HDR, they reflect properly.

I see where a lot of folks are saying how bad their HDR looks when adjusting the slider. Keep in mind, that if you do anything at all to the HDR slider while in game you cannot go right back to the game. It will floor your colors and look terrible. I know it's a pain but you have to quit the current game and restart using the new setting. Even if you move it one click it messes it up. Definitely a bug of some kind but it's happening so be wary of this when adjusting your in game HDR slider.

Does it make sense to those who know a lot about this stuff that my TV looks best with HDR on, but HDR Intensity at 0?

Seems like when I crank up that slider even 15-20 clicks it blows out the colors especially in the sky in a day game.

I have a Samsung 4K. No idea on the model, I have to check that out. But I have to assume it isn't a high end model based on what I paid for it. Which I think was around $700-800 a few months back.

I was just wondering if it was even using HDR technology with intensity level set to 0. Excuse my ignorance, I'm not very knowledgeable in this area whatsoever.

I have no issues with Horizon in HDR, something with the Show. And honest I'm not mad I just can't believe the difference I got with my picture when I turn it off in the Show. I mean I'm not joking it's looks 2x better. Before with it on just looked way to bright and ghostly for me.

I can't agree more with you, with HDR off the game came more alive and I was like wth how could this be this way with it off, looks more real with t off then it did with it on, like you said the colors came to life the players faces looked better and unis looked better. I don't know, seems like my HDR with the show is broke.

This kind of leads me to further believe in my previous post that this just might be a "get the smudges ironed out" year in regards to Pro modes and HDR. I don't the visual mode selection is working as intended for 1080p displays, and I think that HDR might be a little wonky as well with the slider and things changing mid-game, etc.

It happens. The HDR slider seemed like a pretty ambitious move, first I have heard of it, so I am sure it will improve as time goes on

Yeah, something is definitely up with the slider. For me anyway. I finally got it looking pretty good, but maybe a tad too bright. But moving the slider does nothing for me.

Yeah, I started it at about 75. And it looks really good, but maybe a tad bright. Moved down to about 25 but looks exactly the same. So no idea lol.

Did you move it down to 25 without exiting the game? That could be why it doesn't look like it changed.
