So after reading that post I gather its useless unless you wanna play in a dark room. Its too dark to see anything otherwise so I dont get what the fuss over HDR is all about.

Yes exactly. That's the only reason I ever switch out of HDR. The colors and textures of the field are vastly improved already but they look so good with HDR on, I just wish I could see the darn ball!
Maybe they will get it worked out in a patch because the ball is perfectly visible in non-HDR mode.

HDR is like getting a $100 burger vs a $15 burger. There is a slight difference which is at least partially psychological, and in a blind taste test many people wouldn't be able to tell the difference. I've seen so many posts about how HDR is the greatest thing since TVs went from B&W to color, and this is grossly exaggerated.

I have the KS8500 and in most cases the difference between HDR on, and HDR off with dynamic contrast on, is...noticeable but not a huge deal. The TV is so nice by itself especially with some of the post processing that HDR doesn't add all that much.

I know people are going to strongly disagree with me.

It takes some time to get used to for sure, but I can tell you from experience that you will see unbelievable contrast that you haven't seen before as well as a wider variety of colors that makes everything look much more natural. Colors will not be over-saturated like we have become so accustomed to. But then again everyone has the option to set it up how they want. Do what you think looks best

Not exactly, it's a little darker yes, but with HDR you have to blast the backlight on the TV. It uses the increased lighting to give you a wider color gamut. It will be a little easier on the eyes with time you just have to adjust to it. Luckily I started this last year when I first got my tv because when I first turned it on I wanted it as bright as it could go but I didn't realize how much detail I was losing.
HDR on, and max backlight with dynamic contrast off and give it a couple days and see what you think.

If it really is that dark then something is wrong. If you think it's not just your perception and you've tried it for awhile with HDR on and you haven't gotten used to it.

Let me show you some of my screens and you tell me if they look too dark. Picture 3 is really the only one I consider pretty dark and it's not anything wrong per se IMO because it's outside of the stadium (so it's logical it'd be darker there.)

It sounds like you don't have it setup right.

Hey Phillies, I was curious, outside of the HDR headache, have you been happy with the overall "4k-ness" of your new set? Like, do you feel the upgrade is substantial from your previous 1080p set?

This is kind of off topic, and I apologize, I just was curious how you are liking it, in general. For TVs I pretty much only buy Sony or Sammy.

Yeah that's what I thought as well, it's a great big contrast shot. I took that in my Akron Rubber Ducks RTTS.

Hey also, you may know since you're a Gamecocks fan and likely have been down in that area. In reference to my third screen shot, is 65 north to Greenville and 65 South to Atlanta/Charlotte a real highway?

I've traveled down there before and thought that it was and thought it was a really cool touch but I just wanted to verify.

Yes. I am definitely enjoying the game on a 4K TV. Been rolling with HDR off and Enhanced Visuals. 4K mode was way too choppy for my liking.

After you access the HDR slider or anything in that menu you should always exit the game and restart it.

Yeah see it can be ultra bright but it can also be ultra dark, so you have this huge contrast. The extra dark and/or dark range being expanded is what is kind of freaking people out here I think.
