re: MLB The Show 17 Impressions

Man I hate to come in here just to whine, but this annoyed the hell out of me last year, and they didn't tweak it at all doesn't seem like: they have to do something about how the crowd distributes.

Game treats first-level outfield bleachers the same as the rest of the lower bowl, meaning that for stadiums like Comerica Park, where there's no upper deck in the outfield, damn near every game looks like a sellout because the crowd distributes to the bleachers in the same way they do behind home plate or behind the dugouts.

Simple solution is to give outfield bleachers the same treatment given to the third deck; as it stands, when I draw 22,000, damn near all those 18,000 empty seats are in the upper deck - game looks packed unless I happen to catch a glimpse of the third deck. It looks absurd and defeats the purpose of having dynamic attendance in the first place, imo.

Not to mention I'm still questioning why I am drawing 36,000 to an April Tuesday day-game in 40° weather in the rain. A game like that should be empty unless maybe you're the Red Sox, Cubs or Cardinals. No one else is drawing dick to a game like that.

It's just not handled very well.

Amazing game this year, I love it. Havin' a blast. Seems to be more *PoP* to the graphics. Either higher saturation, higher contrast, something... It looks amazing though.

The announcing is much more fresh now, too, with the new guys in the booth. I've read some complaints, but honestly, how spoiled have we become that we complain about this? I can't imagine what they could do to improve upon it, shy of having new content created weekly.

I have run into a couple small glitches/bugs (gotta share it here since the Bugs thread was locked for some reason).

It RTTS, I've had two instances where my teammate base runners (while I was on base) disappeared. Both behind me, and in front. Strange. Not a deal breaker, didn't bother me too much, but certainly strange.

Also - my RTTS batting average changed incorrectly. I was batting .325 or something, but went 1-4 and then later up to bat, it said I was at .343. Weird.

I'm sure they'll work out the kinks. I'm lovin' the game though, and haven't played anything else since I got it.

OH - can they PLEASE get rid of that R2 for Pitch Type... WE KNOW!!!

Maybe i'm in the minority here, but this game feels a lot like MLB The Show 16. Love the new hit variety, fielding speed and paths taken, and simming/manage features. Player faces are better.

Agree with NEOPARADIGM on the crowd. Not realistic at all. Lets hope they work on this for next year.

What's up with the bat disappearing and reappearing in the other hand after a strike out? Anyone else notice this?
You would think the QA team would catch this and fix it.

Not having random schedules in franchise mode is disappointing. How difficult would it have been to reverse the schedule and randomize inter-league games from season to season? This way we get some variety in franchise mode. This is on my wish list and hoping this gets added next year.

Btw, enabled HDR on my TV, yet it wont let me enable this in the game. Any idea why this is happening?

re: MLB The Show 17 Impressions

I'd like to start off by saying I think the dev team did a great job implementing some new changes. The changes to the ball physics have made the hitting gameplay much more engaging. I freak out a little on those foul HR that keep hooking and hooking.

A couple of items that I think would bring huge benefits to future updates and/or MLB 18 --

Trading Logic Improvement: This is critical. The game has a number of players that are roughly 26YO, 55 ovr and have A or B potential. In real life these guys would be virtually worthless and yet they become significant trade chips towards very good players. Yesterday I made a trade where the AI accepted a trade for one of these 26YO type builds + Henry Owens for Jake Lamb. Sorry but that makes no sense. In addition stats should be accounted for in some fashion towards the trade logic -- Henry Owens has been white hot garbage while Lamb is coming off a damn nice year. Why would Zona be inclined to sell him low?

Wall/Player Collisions: I'm sure we have all seen the OF running over for a ball near the fence, they catch it and they take 5 more steps in place bumping up against the wall. It looks horrible -- there should be some sense of risk associated with trying to make a full speed sprint towards the wall. Should I back off and play the hop or should I go head first into the wall and give up an inside the park HR because my RF just got knocked out? There is non of this gameplay right now

Scouting and Potential: Scouting should be a year long and more in depth experience. The system of scouting the central for IF w/ power and arm strength for a week seems very gimmicky to me. It makes sense that the draft is not 40 rounds but it'd be much more in depth experience if the system added sign-ability concerns, year round scouting, guys not signing and returning to the draft 1 or 2 years later (not becoming FA in the following offseason) I feel potential should be a more fluid for both drafting and the minor leagues. Why would a 26YO 55 ovr ever have an A potential? At some point the player has fizzled out and it needs to be dropped down.

I'm enjoying the new presentation and gameplay my only complaint is I've played 2 games that went into extra innings and in both games I wanted to put in a pinch runner and it would not let me.

Playing rtts and the computer makes dumb decisions like bunt with 2 outs with the bases loaded.... and my team doesn't play small ball like bunting me over when they should.

I'm Dodgers at Yankees, in the fifth and I just hit my 4th homerun, the problem is my 4th homer was a check swing line drive. This is on all star, I may have to move on up.

MLB The Show 17 Impressions only.

I LOVE that they finally got the correct color teal on the mariners jerseys. Makes the game even more immersive. No more odd green! Also really like the new commentary booth!

I've seen some pretty crappy in-game AI logic this year.

Was playing an extra inning game and in the bottom of the 11th, I had runners on 1st and 3rd no outs. Not only did the IF play corners in only, but there was a comebacker to the pitcher and he bobbled it and then decided to throw to first instead of trying to throw out the winning run coming home.

re: MLB The Show 17 Impressions

Picked the game up last night after work and proceeded to spend ALL night going through franchise, a little RTTS and some games against the CPU.

LOVE the new ball physics and fielding. Pitching seems harder and hitting easier for me this year playing on stock All-Star (did they change the bat sound? It is amazing this year).

RTTS seems a little cheesy but I am not the biggest fan of this mode to begin with so no big deal. Maybe the new additions will mean it will hold my attention for more than a few seasons.

My main mode is franchise and I simulated through a couple season just to get the lay of the land and see whats what. I can see this years franchise being pretty solid, all though I don't see any big changes from previous years (not really a bad thing).

I like that the ratings seem to be toned down a bit this year and that seems to take care of a couple of statistical issues I have had with previouse games. OBP seems to be up this year, not a lot but you get guys like Joey Votto at least getting into the .420+ range where he sits in real life, where in 16 a .400 OBP was almost non existent.

Trading could still use an upgrade. I'm disappointed you still can't make a trade involving more than 6 players or more than two teams. I saw my fair share of insane CPU trade again and (as a White Sox fan) it's impossible to get real life value out of trading a guy like Quintana who isn't rated very high but had a 1.74 era at the trade deadline when I tried to move him but I still couldn't get more than one decent prospect in return.

The new budget system is a little confusing but in the other thread it looks like people might have it figured out, I just wish they showed us total budget remaining...

Other than things being a little clunky to start off with before any kind of patches, 17 seems like it will be a solid game even if franchise mode (to me at least) seams like 16 with updated graphics and physics.

Almost forgot my biggest annoyance with the show series. INSIDE THE SHOW NEEDS TO GO AWAY!!! I really don't like to play games in the beginning of the season and focus instead on scouting so I do a lot of day to day sims and checking up on scouting. In the past I could quickly hit R3 after each day to skip past Inside the Show but this year it is right there in your face immediately and it drives me crazy as I usually only spend enough time to hear the intro so I get three or four intros in a row (if any of that made sense) I HATE INSIDE THE SHOW!

Edit: HAHAHA found the slider, not sure how I missed that thank god!

Anyone else think they don't really notice the sounds of the show songs, and then sometime during the summer they realize they know every word to every song?

How have I been having trouble hitting home runs so far? I'm on all star too and have been playing the show since '12 so its not like I'm a bad hitter by any means. I feel like I've seen an increased number of shallow outfield flyouts that I thought I hit better than I actually did.
