re: MLB The Show 17 Impressions

Finally had a chance to play this last night.

    I'm very impressed.

Playing on a 1080p and OG PS4, and the game looks great and thr framerate is smooth.

    Ball physics are no joke.

I turned Wind down to 2 and that seemed to help balls from soaring out of Citi Field.
    Currently Playing:
    MLB The Show 25 (PS5)

Online is a slugfest but also offline it's easy to have game like the one linked below.
It's HOF pitching/hitting. And ok, maybe i'm not ready for pitching on HOF, but Jesus, i never see a game like this in the past years. I don't know why every sport game is literally being destroyed by cards, but it's really sad and whoever in SDS choose this path should think twice about it. Goodbye baseball.

That is a lot of hyperbole for the sake of hyperbole.

I have seen a difference, though the Yanks have some decent middle relievers, I definitely need to locate better, but so far have only needed to use the middle sparingly. I try and get 6 innings out of my starter, then it is Warren/Clippard, Betances and Chapman if I am up. Those 4 are solid, Shreve and Tommy Layne have struggled a bit in games I have been behind.

Also had a game where Betances was off and blew a 2 run lead giving up a game tying HR in the 8th and a walkoff dinger in the 9th. I know a game can't emulate player personalities and traits that well, but it is somewhat ironic. He had games last year where he would look completely untouchable, then have an outing where he got hardly any movement and left pitches up. These two games are eerily similar to what you could get in two different games early in the season last year.

I just blew a 7-0 lead as Colorado. How upset am I reasonably allowed to get as a 31-year-old man?

Just because one game is played that happened to be a high score doesn't mean anything. That's baseball. I played a game the other day as the Phillies against the Pirates. I crushed them 10-2 and even hit 2 3-run homers in the same inning. The next game I couldn't have hit the ball if it was thrown a foot in front of me.

Just the way it goes in baseball. Doesn't mean anything is broken.

Look at that Rangers/Orioles game back in 2007. Rangers beat them 30-3. There hasn't been another game like that in the last 10 years.

I really wish we could be more careful with the term "broken." I have about 25 hours played so far in this game and nothing I have experienced with pulse pitching and directional hitting is broken. Tweaks are needed, yes, but that's not broken

Why. I feel the whole balance of the game is broken. Not totally broken, of course, as i've already explain i was a little bit salty after a nightmare game, but the strong emphasis on HR's and big shots is still there and we shouldn't hide everything just because in baseball everything can happen. As a matter of fact, what i've seen from day one is that nearly every game is decided by HR's. And i've already seen three grand slams and a couple of walk off HR's. It's baseball ? Maybe. But the evidence here - for me, at least - is that this year we have less baseball 101 and more baseball on steroids. Broken or not broken.

I just don't have this experience. I've had two games back to back that a single homerun was not hit. One game was 5-2 and the other was 8-1.

                      I lost both

re: MLB The Show 17 Impressions

The power shots are a little more prevelant but I don't mind it. I usually play on All Star and I bumped up to HOF hitting and it's playing very realistic again. I like the game to somewhat resemble realism, so I wouldn't like to see every game being a home run derby.

It seems for most people the hitting is a little easier, so I would recommend bumping it up a level from what you're accustomed to in past games. And if it's still more than you want, then knock the "Solid hits" slider down a notch or two.

For the awesome gameplay and much improved ball physics, it's a small price to pay in trying to make a few adjustments so the Hr's don't ruin your experience.

Also, the word "broken" needs to be banned.
I shudder to think of what the next word would be to take the place of "broken" in being completely misused. I mean, if your game has literally been smashed to pieces by a hammer, then ok..

is the universal profile working? it says i have 77 games even though i have only played maybe 5-6. it basically includes batting practice and every restart as a game. WTF?

so it shows me as averaging .5 hits again and I apparently only give up .2 hits a game. lol.

This shouldn't be an issue for too long (just until the OSFM rosters come out) but does anyone feel like minor leaguers throw way too fast with the default rosters? Playing RTTS and it seems like every pitcher is throwing 95+ in AA with a lot at 98-99. Little ridiculous. And there are even some with a 15 mph difference between their fastball and change which is just bonkers.

Having a really good time so far, just curious if anyone else has noticed that with default rosters.

Yeah, I've tooled around a bit in RTTS (waiting for OSFM too) and in the showcase games the dudes were throwing mid to upper 90's which I thought was odd.
