re: MLB The Show 17 Impressions

    Quick impressions.

    Pitching is about the same

Hitting is easier or it's my TV and less lag.

I have hit back to back to back homeruns 2 times in less than 10 games. I have hit back to back several other times.

I have played on All-star since this series came out. I think it might be time to step up a notch. I could just play with the Reds I guess.

Two things that disappoints me for RttS: the overlays that are in franchise (vs pitcher, etc) continue to be missing and the records to break are still the same it has always been. An inclusion of franchise records to break would be dope in future iterations of "The Show".

re: MLB The Show 17 Impressions

This is by far the best pure baseball game I've ever played. The ball physics make it fun just to see the variety.

My biggest gripe: I don't understand why the Franchise trade system is so archaic. It's not even remotely realistic. Why should I be able to check any trade possibility against the opposing team without penalty?

The logic behind a realistic trade system could've been programmed 20 years ago. All you have to do is make it like a mini game where you try to sell the other GM and avoid getting ripped off. Instead of adding three players max to your side and seeing which players they'll give you, make it more uncertain. Make it so you submit your offer, and then maybe a few days later the GM will give you an idea of where he stands. Maybe he really likes the offer but just can't agree right now. Or maybe he does agree and then calls back 5 minutes later and says he wants a physical on player A. Or maybe a certain player threatened to retire if traded to your team. It's so easy to do.

Come on, it's 2017. The rest of the game is amazing, and I just don't understand why this aspect is as silly and unrealistic as it's ever been in any game that didn't simply offer manual trading.

              Other wishes:

              - Make pitch feedback more obvious on the screen. The current black-and-white scheme takes some getting used to. The feedback doesn't pop out like last year.
              - I've always liked the pitch meters since MVP 2003, but this game's colors turn me off. Pulse is better, anyway.
              - I wish Franchise mode had a player wishlist or notepad that would let me store certain trade drafts or even player search lists so I can refer back. I hate having to research / reset up my trades when I decide to go back through to look at player stats or check something else.
              - I wish it was easier to track a player's progress through the season, as well as particular stats. Make it so I can keep slugging % notes on a player, allowing me to check his numbers from the last 10 games, the last 10 at bats, the last 20 day games, etc.
              - Allow me to set individual goals for players. Let's say I make it a goal for Billy Hamilton to steal 100 bases. Maybe he'll get a morale boost when he reaches it. Maybe I could add those sorts of goals to their contracts as bonuses.
              - Make the menus customizable with custom stat columns and different color schemes.
              - Take the Franchise emphasis off of complicated scouting and put more emphasis into the trade system, player management system, and so on.

              Positives:
              - Morale screen. It annoyed me how in '16 I couldn't quickly view and sort players by their morale. Now we can.
              - Game transitions faster, making it faster and smoother when I want to skip through cut scenes and get to the next batter.
              - Hit variety is unlike any game before.
              - Controller vibration used to annoy me, but this year it's awesome. It makes it harder for me to pitch on pulse, and batting feels more satisfying.
              - Slow motion on close plays is awesome and makes the game feel more cinematic and exciting.

I could go on and on. Yeah, some things really make me scratch my head, but I'm definitely satisfied with my purchase.

re: MLB The Show 17 Impressions

Game feels amazing so far! There's only one negative thing that stands out. Draft logic (Franchise fantasy draft) is still poor. Closers are still taken in the first round. The high first round.

I would love to see a sortable attribute called "Franchise Rating". This attribute would tell you how valuable the player is via a big picture point of view. It could be created by taking their WAR x years under control.

You could make the algorithm much more complex but the above would be leaps and bounds better than what's used now. (Arbitration years can carry less weight, potential and age can influence projected WAR, durability can influence this, etc.)

Basically, you want the CPU to draft an 85 overall player with a 5 year contract higher than a 99 overall player with a 1 year contract year. (99x1 < 85x5)

Carlos Correa, for example, consistently gets drafted 50th-60th overall in The Show 17. He should be drafted in the top 10. Reason being, he's 22 years old, 88 overall and under team control for 5 years. But instead, the CPU would rather draft a closer under a 1 year contract. They are valuing 75 innings pitched higher than 500 games at shortstop with a big bat.

MLB The Show 17 Impressions only.

For the people seeing too many homeruns, have you tried lowering contact slider instead of power to reduce the ability to make solid contact? Or lowering the solid hits slider?

Curious as to whether or not this will work. I'm playing on legend for hitting and pitching, and it seems like 75% of the runs are scored via homeruns. I've messed with the power and solid contact sliders a bit, but I, still able to hit way too many homeruns, it's frustrating because I feel like this game has never had a problem feeling "arcadey " in the past.

As for the rest of the game, I absolutely love the new animations. Unfortunately there are still stadiums that have a slight frame rate drop right as the pitcher is about to release. If you play in Fenway for example, it's very smooth, then go play at Coors/AT&T/Minute Maid and there's a pretty big difference.

In my first three games I hit 11 homers. I get that it's an all star team but dudes keep quitting on me. I went back to back to back in my second game. What's up wit dat? Love hitting them but man oh man it just seems excessive. I love scoring with tons of basehits and doubles not but exclusively homeruns.
Just played another Diamond Dynasty game after work on All Star and won 19-2. I hit 10 home runs, 3 doubles, 2 triples and few singles. I have total arcade mode going on and yeah I agree that this game has never felt arcadey except for this year. The ball seems to just float away into the stands constantly. 10 homers is unreal. Can't wait for some realistic sliders to enter. Lots of other people hitting bombs like mad or what else are you noticing with the hits you are getting and how are you scoring runs?

After playing 10 or 12 games in all different modes, my first impression is that really stands out the most is how the ball comes in. Compared to years past the ball from the mound to the plate is just floating in. It reminds me of when you would have a position player pitching in years past how slow it is coming in. This year it gives you in my opinion way too much time to calculate if it is a changup, fastball, and especially a curve ball. Really takes away from the challenge of baseball. I have tried turning the pitch speed slider up and it still doesn't really come in that fast. I wish there was a mode called like "pitching realism" that would step up the pitch speed to what it is really like to be in the box in the MLB. Thoughts? Anyone else noticing this floating ball effect? Like a grapefruit really.
