HOF is the way to go. Had my most fun game to date on HOF. Saw a bad hop single, it was sweet, the ball hit a scuff mark in the dirt in front of the short stop, it just about hit him in the face. Also, those Nikes are sweet to look at in the batters box. The game isn't perfect, but it's baseball.

re: MLB The Show 17 Impressions
1. I am amazed by the differences in pitcher effectiveness. I may be alone in this observation but I feel like average to poor middle relievers finally REALLY play that way. I've played only 3 full games and in all 3 I was undone by underwhelming bullpens. My first game (play now) was Teheran v the Brewers #1 (forget his name). I was down 2-1 after 6 and forced to PH for Teheran in the bottom of the 6th. Time to try the pen for my beloved Bravos. I call in Cabrera to start the 7th and he promptly walked the 1st 2 hitters. Sure he was hitting 96 on the gun but he couldn't throw a strike, even when I simply tapped X (classic pitching the only way to go) and tried to throw it down the middle. He gave up 2 more runs and it didn't get better with the next 2 pitchers. I lost 6-2. Rinse and repeat that experience with the Pirates and then the Braves again. I loved the frustration of using these average relievers.
6. I know it's early but this is the best iteration in the series I've ever played
#1 was a big takeaway from me as well, even in the difference form starter to starter. After getting my sliders where I liked I started my Yankee dynasty.
Game 1 - Tanaka is untouchable, I take a no hitter into the 9th, 2 walks, 9 K's. I was almost wondering if I need to give the CPU some more help on All-Star with the sliders, as it seemed too easy. Lost the no hitter with 1 out and took Tanaka out as he was tiring. But, he does have the potential to pitch games like this, so I left it alone. Win the game 5-0.
Game 2 - Pineda comes out smoking and now I am really questioning my sliders, but sure enough, as in real life, he melts down, hangs a couple of sliders that wind up in the seats and I lose 5-3.
Games 3 and 4, Severino and Sabathia two loses (4-2 both games) Severino misses spots which cost him and you can definitely tell CC has lost it.
Game 5 I start Jonathon Niese, he goes 5 innings, giving up some hits, but avoiding the big inning and leaves with a 4-1 lead. He definitely "looked hittable" though and a lot of hard hit balls went right to people. I get some good defense and carry a 6-1 lead into the 9th, I put Betances in just to get some work and he is just filthy. His slurve is locating nicely and mixing that in with his fastball really isn't fair. He strikes out the side and Yanks win 6-1. Another thing I am seeing more, even I this limited sample, are guys like Chapman, who saved game 1, are blowing the ball past some hitters, even when it is center of the plate which should happen when you throw 102.

re: MLB The Show 17 Impressions
Why was the online pitch speed changed from last year?
There is no threat of being late on a fastball now. If you sit change up, you can easily adjust to anyon fastball 95 MPH and lower without a problem.
Almost makes it unplayable for me. Where's the challenge now?Comment

re: MLB The Show 17 Impressions
Has anyone notice a noticeable PCI size change in between pitches?
Mode: Season
Level: Hall Of Fame Pitching and Hitting
Custom Sliders based on Fenway and Marino's.
First pitch of AB: Kevin Gausman pitches to Josh Donaldson
Notice the PCI indicator and its size. Using normal swing (X)
Second pitch of AB: Kevin Gausman pitches to Josh Donaldson
PCI indicator is clearly smaller. Still using normal swing (X)
Has this happened before? I don't recall this happening in '16 and I've been playing HoF for at least 6-7 months now.
Played a couple of “Play Now” games and this didn't happen. Any input is appreciated.
Edit:
Here's an overlay of both screenshots:

Odd that you wouldn't see it in play now, unless by chance you were looking at a matchup where the batter and pitcher didn't have any, or were canceling each other out.Comment

That's due to quirks. The PCI size change reflects their increased/decreased ability in a given situation. Devs covered this in a pre-release stream and actually showed screenshots of the PCI difference.

I didn't catch any of the pre-release streams so yeah I was a bit confused about this mini change. It adds realism and I like it so far. I though it was just a glitch.Comment

Harold says the same word very closely together sometimes. I don't remember it exactly but will say he did a good job and then a couple words later say good job. Very odd.
Gameplay is just overall improved and I love the fielders knowing the speed and throwing accordingly.
Graphics are better. The skin color problem is gone. Text seems crisper.
I have gotten more challenge calls which is awesome. I still wish we could skip the whole cutscene though and challenge whenever we want as opposed to only when the game lets us.
I love the new slowmo when the play is close at the bag.
I have noticed that the game does not save your gameplay options. I've had to change everything twice now in the 2 DD games I've played against the CPU. Bug? I'll go into the main options and change it there to see if that works.
After 2 games, I have not gotten the player of the game highlights or after game interview. I have read that others have and they added a gatorade bath. Guess it's random now but that's disappointing they don't highlight the player of the game every time now. The new victory animations are cool though.
The blue/light blue XP wheel is tough to see.
The MLB Network broadcast hasn't been that much different from normal ones in my limited experience with it so far. The 2nd game I played with it had absolutely no MLB Network stuff. There were 3 home runs hit and some nice catches too.
Matty V sounds like he has a cold in some of his commentary with the new guys.
It's awesome to be able to play with my favorite baseball player Ken Griffey Jr!!! Only rookie(he's so skinny lol) but hopefully soon I will get to play with other versions.
I have definitely noticed some new hits and ball trajectory. Very cool!
Every batter doesn't chew gum anymore.
You don't get as much XP every half inning as last years game. I've played 2 games on All-Star and get much less XP compared to 16. Bummer.Comment

re: MLB The Show 17 Impressions
Maybe I'm reading it wrong, but my universal profile states I have played 64 games and that I average .58 hits a game, but my highest is 15 from the first game I played???
I've played 2 full games against the CPU, 2 online games, and maybe 1-2 innings of 4-5 other games. Not really sure where they are getting 64 games from.Comment

Can Tomba be gushing? Can Tomba be blushing?
My goodness how good IS MLB The Show 17?!?!
Its the Hit Variety this year that shines. I've never seen the same hit twice in my 20 plus exhibition games.
Hitting Homeruns is SO fun and is the equivalent of scoring a goal from long range as good as when Fifa 07 did it(arguably the best long distance physics ive seen next to winning eleven 6 final evolution for GameCube)
Also after calibrating my TV (to Nintendo Switch Color Gammas!...YUP Insane the calibration tool that the Nintendo switch and Zelda can be) the game looks superb in the lighting at times and at different times of day.
If your reading impressions on whether or not you buy MLB The Show 17. Just stop and ask yourself...
Do I want to be happy?
If the answer is yes then go to Best Buy,Go to Gamestop Target or whatever store near you that YOU think "might have MLB The Show 17 and buy it this morning, this afternoon OR tonight when you get chance after Saturday dinner with the family...
OR you could just digitally download it on the PSN store
But.... JUST GET IT it IS THAT good.
Amazing how ball physics can overshadow almost everything else and make itself a game changer.
I mean I hit a bomb and the ball reacted the way it should have when it landed....Brand New Tomba Slider sets ready for Next Gen Versions of NBA,Madden and Fifa Stay Tuned...Comment

re: MLB The Show 17 Impressions
I don't know guys, the more i play the more i see how gameplay is totally broken this year. Hitting is easier than ever ( and i'm just an average zone hitter ), tons of HR's, tons of doubles, tons of hits. Balance is gone. Online is a slugfest but also offline it's easy to have game like the one linked below.
It's HOF pitching/hitting. And ok, maybe i'm not ready for pitching on HOF, but Jesus, i never see a game like this in the past years. I don't know why every sport game is literally being destroyed by cards, but it's really sad and whoever in SDS choose this path should think twice about it. Goodbye baseball.

I use HOF pitching/hitting and haven't had a game like this. Played two Season Mode games last night and I won one 3-2 with 4 home runs in the game (3 mine, 1 CPU), I struck out 7 times and struck out the CPU 5. Lost the second game 5-2.
Maybe you need to toy with sliders a little?Comment

Really isn't that outrageous of an outcome. If every game was like that, then I'd understand your concern, but I strongly doubt that's the case. Had one game where I generated 16 hits then the next I only managed to get 4. That's baseball.
Also, the word "broken" needs to be banned.Comment

re: MLB The Show 17 Impressions
I'm simply Wow'd here.
Screenshots and the streams didn't do the game any justice at all. Based off of thoses the game didn't look all that different from the previous years, but now seeing it on my own t.v. i can definitely say the graphics are significant jump from last year. I've only play one inning and that was enough to make my jaw drop.
Mlb 16 looked better when i got my ps4 pro on my non-HDR 4k tv but Mlb 17 blows its out of the water. (on 4k mode) When batting the player has so much depth to him and is so crystal clean, its insane.
The overall look and depth of the camera angles all appear to be overhauled, that really does make this game look like we are playing a new generation of the show. i thought others on here were exaggerating when they stated that (because every year the game in a way feels new over the previous year) i can attest that those statements are true.
My hats off too you SCEA your team really did a phenomenal job on the graphics and presentation this year. And i just realized while typing this (gushing over the graphics and presentation), that major improvements have been made to gameplay and animations and i haven't even checked out those yet.Comment
