Re: MLB 17 Trade Discussion Thread

in 2018 all star break as the BRAVES looking to ad a big arm or maybe 2 also with a middle of the order bat

currently in first 1.5 games above miami and 3 on wsh

mets have the worse record in the mlb at 29-59 21 GB

so im looking to add DeGrom who has a year of control left

    braves get
    J.DeGrom 0-13 4.73 ERA

    Mets get

Ozzie Albies (A POT) since recently being called up .244 avg 6 hr 25 rbi 4 sb
Kolby Allard (A pot) who is killing it in the minors
and a B POT just drafted Guy what could play all positions

what you guys think about that trade

    also thinking of

    last places A'S

    sonny gray 7-3 2.90 ERA
    Khris Davis .254 22 hr 69 RBI

    for

    Aaron Blair
Dave Sammons (B poT) my 1st round pick of/1b
Kyle Freekand B pot doing well in minors
    jesse biddle
    bubba starling (B)

    opinion on fairness of trades

Looking at what the Cubs are getting for Happ, I'd say no.

Re: MLB 17 Trade Discussion Thread

I'm now at July 24. Still haven't pulled the trigger on the Sonny Gray deal for my Cubs franchise. I really don't want to part with Eloy Jiminez or Javier Baez. I've always liked and wanted Gray but the more I look at it, the more it might make sense for me to go after Chris Archer rather since he has a little more potential. I know it's not cheap but what about this for Archer:

Chris Archer for Javier Baez, Oscar de la Cruz, and Jeimer Candelario.

Baez is hitting .284/.344/.614 with 16 HR, 45 RBI, 15 2B, has a WAR of 2.3 and as we all know can play anywhere on the field. To be honest, I think this is the biggest piece in the move for anyone trading with the Cubs. And (I know I'm biased as a Cubs fan) I believe he has quite a bit of value. He's a 24-year old, A prospect on the game. He has a lot of value. In the deal I'm also including my second-best pitching prospect (B potential player) and another B prospect in Jeimer Candelario. I know Archer's expensive, but again, I really don't think a trade for an ace necessarily costs Baez AND Happ/Jiminez. I hate the idea of giving up Baez, but I have to have a controllable ace for the next few years.

        Thoughts?

Also, some additional deals that I'm looking to make for other teams that are contending at the deadline using 30-team control. I don't know as much about other farms as I do the Cubs so a little hep here would be much appreciated.

Cardinals could probably use some starting pitcher help. Looking to move Jose Quintana from the White Sox to the St. Louis Cardinals.

Houston Astros could also use a starter. What's the cost to get Gerrit Cole, Chris Archer or Sonny Gray to Houston?

Pittsburgh should be looking to sell Andrew McCutchen.

The Royals need to offload Eric Hosmer, Lorenzo Cain, and Mike Moustakas.

Brewers would consider moving Ryan Braun.

Archer takes more than Gray. So with all your off limits you'd have to probably include both Baez and Jimenez to get Archer back to the Cubs system

Other teams would be able to offer far more value than Baez, Candelario and De La Cruz

Been reading about what Tampa Bay will probably ask for and you're probably right.

What do you think about Javier Baez, Eloy Jiminez, and Trevor Clifton for Archer?

Itd probably need to be Cease not Clifton. You've got to WOW the Rays and give them a reason to give up 5 cheap years of Archer

I wouldn't think Baez and my top prospect AND my top pitching prospect would really be necessary. I could see possibly de la Cruz instead of Clifton. And I know I've harped on this but Baez isn't just some throw-in after thought. He's a huge piece. Baez and Jiminez alone are huge hauls. I know I'd be getting Archer but I doubt the Cubs would be willing to had over those three pieces. At some point, for me in my franchise (and in real life) you just have to agree that you're too far apart. If I'm the Cubs and the Rays are not willing to let me keep my #1 pitching prospect I. The deal when I'm handing over a player like Baez and a prospect like Jiminez, I'd just have to say no thanks.

Again, I think I could possibly do Baez, Jiminez, and de la Cruz at best. I'd rather it be anyone else besides Cease.

A few more games and I'm going to be out of time anyway. Ha. I really thought I was going to do Sonny Gray... still might. Good thing I'm not a real GM. I might not ever make a trade.

But look at it as the Rays GM. Why should they settle at all when trading Archer this season. They can keep him 3 more years and still get a massive haul when he has 2 years remaining. He's insanely underpaid. A trade for him will look like the Sale trade. Maybe even more. That trade involved the #1 prospect in baseball Moncada, a top #20 pitching prospect in Kopech, a fringe top #100 guy in Basabe and a lotto ticket.

Moncada is worth SUBSTANTIALLY more than Baez, Kopech is worth just less than Jimenez and Basabe is worth similar to Cease.

The Cubs are handcuffing themselves not allowing Schwarber, Happ and Cease to be involved. You're making it so Baez and Jimenez has to start all these conversations and it isn't necessarily enough depending on the pitcher you want in return

                      All good, valid points.

Schwarber is essentially untouchable for me. He's in the midst of an MVP year, putting g up just absolutely stupid numbers. He has 40 home runs, 82 RBIs, a slash line of .296/.393/.684. Side note: I wish he was this good in real life.

In regards to Happ, I don't know if I ever said he's off limits. If I did, I could be persuaded. I've had him up with the Cubs (Zobrist currently out with a torn shoulder) for most of July. In 61 at-bats he's hitting .311, has two homers, and has driven in 11 runs. He's been amazing and I've played him in every outfield position and at second some. So he's definitely improved his already high stock.

So essentially everyone is available to trade aside from Schwarber, Bryant, and Rizzo.

Trading for an ace is supposed to hurt when you see these guys leave your system. Just remember you get another draft and potentially can get some more prospects. To get a true ace is tough to come by.

And if were being honest, most AL teams would demand Schwarber for their ace since he's really a DH or 1B and just fits better as an AL player. You have the position player surplus to get a very talented pitcher but it will hurt a lot

We've already done a straight up swap for Happ and Walker in this thread. Going off of earlier conversations in this thread, I would only have to remove them receiving Palumbo and their outgoing prospects to make this work for the Cubs.

Tampa Bay walked from an amazing offer from Houston for Archer. If you're dealing for him, it's going to hurt. Really bad. As Gamecock said, you have to put yourself in the chair of the TB GM. Why would he settle for anything less than a return that would make you cry? His job is to win Championships, just like yours. At the end of the day, he's building his portfolio off of this trade. You overspend or you don't get Archer.

I"m trying to tweak my trade for Villar with my Braves since I was told it was a slight overpayment + I've lost Ian Anderson for 3 months+, so I can't deal him at TDL.

Sean Newcomb (now 24YO/B POT/65 OVR)
Rio Ruiz (now 23YO/B POT/73 OVR)
                                Micah Johnson--amazing season after 1.5 months .349/2HR's/11 RBI's/9SB (now 27 YO, C POT, 72 OVR)

                                Fair?
