Re: MLB 17 Trade Discussion Thread

Once OSFM drops this weekend, I'll be picking up MLB the Show 17. I plan to start a franchise as my favorite team, the Reds.

What do you think a realistic trade value would be for Cozart? I'm not even 100% on trading him, but if I'm way out of contention (which will probably happen) I'd like to move Cozart so Peraza can play SS and Dilson Herrera can be my 2B.

I know the Mariners had interest in him at one point, as did the Padres. Thoughts?

      Year 2 Reds
Let Hamilton go. He asked for 9 mil per year. Signed Dyson for half price.
Made 2 big trades this season.
      1. Sent Suarez, Duvall & Leury Garcia to Nats for Adam Eaton.
      2. Sent Winker, Aristides Aquino, SP Manzanillo (2A, 1 B prospects) to San Diedo for Will Myers

      Opinions??

I actually made a trade to LA for a good pitching prospect with Cozart. The prospect hasn't worked out but I moved Peraza to SS and he's been great. Scooter Gennett is at 2B. He's tough and improved some.

I think a trout trade is realistic. Angels arent going to win anything with him. They have bad contracts. They have a horrible farm system thanks to inept scouting. Theyre best bet is to trade him and rebuild around the pieces they get in return.

Philly is a team that i think can realistically pull it off. Would they part with the pieces needed to get him? Idk. Angels might need to lower their asking price id think slightly. Would the angels really turn down a package of say: Crawford, Nick Williams, Nola/Vasquez and a player like Sixto Sanchez?

Lol, I forgot all about Scooter being there. I'm still getting used to him even being on the team, given he's only been there a week(ish), although his Opening Day homer was nice!

I can see a Trout trade being possible, but not until he's closer to being a Free Agent. I think back to the Ken Griffey Jr trade. He was arguably the best player in the MLB at the time, but was about to turn 30 and only had 1 year left on his contract.

Don't forget the full no-trade clause. You're right in that we're 2 years away (after the FA class of '18 sets the market) from having any kind of relevant conversation of trading Trout but that will be his decision, not the Angels. Any receiving team will have to be guaranteed an extension as they will be giving up 5+ years of their farm system and that value won't be set until Machado, Harper, etc. get paid.
That being said, it'll be fun to speculate until that happens... or he just signs an extension with the Angels and disappoints all of us arm chair GM's.

Thanks for the input. Lets chuck the Dodgers out there, assuming the Angels talk, does Trout have interest in staying in the area with a contender? If so, do the Dodgers have enough or even the desire to say start off with...

                  Pederson, Bellinger.... Alvarez, Calhoun?

Dodgers have what it would take. Angels would ask for Urias, Bellinger, Alvarez, Verdugo to start and LaD wont trade Urias and maybe not even Bellinger for Trout. Think Philly and the Yanks are the best bet to get Trout

Which the Yankees might possibly do but I can't imagine a scenario in which Philadelphia would sell their future for one player.

Trout grew up like 45 minutes from Philadelphia. I'm sure their dream scenario is getting him. And they're a big market team with money to burn. I agree it would sacrifice their farm though

Now the Cards have resigned Molina for 3 years, what position do you think they look to trade Carson Kelly for? I can't realistically see them hanging on to the best catching prospect in baseball for 3 years waiting behind Yadi, or him really getting enough time behind the late with Yadi still there for it to be worth it to keep him

Here are the trades i made with the pirates:

Twins receive: Daniel Hudson, Josh Harrison and a top prospect (using some roster from the vault)

Pirates Receive: Brian Dozier, Miguel Sano, Jorge Polanco

i know this trade is a steal but for some reason the cpu wanted to do it. bad trade logic. i was only looking for Dozier or Sano. Twins were out of contention and ended up 66-96

                            Pirates Acquire: RP Josh Edgin
Mets Acquire: 3B David Freese, 2 prospects Mets finished 9 games out of WC spot

                            Pirates acquire: Derek Dietrich
Marlins acquire: Will Craig, Yeudy Garcia, another prospect Marlins finished 16 out of WC spot

                            Pirates Acquire: RP Andrew Chafin
Diamondbacks acquire: RP Antonio Bastardo, prospect Diamondbacks finished 14 out of WC spot

i feel like these three are somewhat realistic. I also made a spring training trade to get Cam Bedrosian from the Angels but i can't remember who i traded for him.

My 1-7 in the lineup all had double digit home runs

                            CF Marte
                            RF McCutchen

                            2B Dozier
                            1B Dietrich
                            3B Sano
                            LF Polanco
                            C Cervelli

In the offseason i signed cutch until he is 37 and Cole until he is 34. This lineup is my starting lineup in 2018 too.
