Should his value be based on the 1.1 for value the following season?
So the complicated answer is yes and no. You do discount him but not to the full extent of being a 1.1 WAR player. Just like we don't value McCutcheon as a .7 WAR player. You'd consider the season an outlier, and lower his overall value based on the added risk a bad season adds

Alright gotcha. So if a players WAR last year say was a 7 WAR and in my season they happen to have a bad year like Cutch and it dropped to 1 WAR I could safely take that into account and pretty much avg it out to a 4 WAR value in the formula if I understand right....

This is a tough one, I know if I deal say a Brad Brach or even a Zach Britton I could get a starter back but it probably wouldn't be a major league ready guy but at the sametime the farm system is terrible and besides Chance Sisco or maybe Trey Mancini I don't have anything to deal that would get me back anything better than what I have already?

        Any ideas for trade targets?
The O's just don't have enough to get a guaranteed upgrade but could buy a high risk/reward like Buchholz or bring back Chen and his massive contract. Reyes, Lee or Ynoa could all fit that type of deal. Dealing from the bullpen will just make the other starters worse plus, Britton alone could restock the farm.
You could always wait until next year, tell Mr. Angelos to look the other way and overpay for Darvish.

Unless the player is really old. Like mid 30's you would consider them closer to their career average. If they're older you'd place their value as if they're actually declining

I asked this earlier but it got a bit lost in all the traffic. If I'm rebuilding the Rays, what sort of value would I get for Alex Colome, particularly from the Nats or maybe even the Cubs?

Also, what sort of value does a year of Alex Cobb have, or would I be better off letting him show he's healthy again and then move at the deadline?

One last questions. How would I find Gary Sanchez value with it only showing one year of a contract when there is more team control than that?

Yeah, I am on focusing on high risk/reward guys as I know we have nothing to get anything done and was just trying to think about who would fit that mold.

If I could get the contract of Chen to work that could be an option. I guess Phil Hughes could also fit this mold.

Great question. He had less than a years service time. He will have 3 more seasons of roughly $500k as salary then 3 arbitration years. So you can ballpark his salary based on what Buster Posey got in Arbitration.

What teams realistically would want McCutchen?

If you were the Marlins and wanted to rebuild, what would you target for a trade if you dealt Yelich and Stanton? I think I would have to go for a top young pitcher to start, but I'm curious of what you think. I saw a lot of talk about people trying to bring Yelich to their own team, but I'm wondering what you would target if you in the Marlins' shoes.

Given it was a different circumstance, I believe I sent Kyle Seager, Taijuan Walker, Tyler O'Neill, Tyler Marlette, and a couple of others to them for Stanton and Capps (this was a couple of years ago).
Stanton, even with that albatross of a contract, will get a Miggy-like return. An elite arm, elite bat/athlete and some PTBNL. I don't think it would take much to engage the Yankees for that type of deal.
I wouldn't trade Yelich but if forced, an elite arm and 2 legit prospects (a high bonus international player) would open the bidding. As you mentioned, his value was talked about earlier and I don't want to stray too far from that but I'm also very high on him.

I asked a similar question (some buy-low guys for my Jays) that was also lost in the shuffle, guess it's hard to compete with McCutchen/Yelich talk, lol.

I'd value Colome pretty highly as a guy who seems to have settled into relief really well. The Nats could be pretty desperate around the deadline with not much of anything likely to be available given who's up for FA this offseason. Certainly no Miller/Chapman combo like last season. If Colome is showing the same level of production as last year, I'd probably want a mid-high B to start, maybe another low-B/high-C prospect or two you find interesting or a good fit. Colome likely isn't good enough to get you Robles (unless he's flat out Miller-level dominating), but what would you be looking for? Pitching?

As for Cobb, I always lean on the side of waiting when it comes to injuries. Right now, he's probably worth a flyer prospect. Nobody is going to want to pay big for a guy who might never be the guy you're selling him as. If you can wait out, let him rebuild some of that value, he might be worth quite a bit as a rental in the offseason or next deadline. Just my two cents anyway.

Similar to Yelich. He costs more in salary but is ceiling is absurd. I seriously doubt you get Stanton unless one of Sanchez or Torres is involved.
