Re: Too many HR's?
I found an article on ESPN that the MLB was on pace to hit 5,584 home runs in the year ..
Balls are flying out of the park at the highest rate since the steroid era, and theories from global warming to a new hitting approach to changes to the baseballs themselves are being discussed.
I don't know the exact number since I can't find it .. but if all teams play their entire schedule that is 4860 games played, that's an average of just over 1 home run a game.
So if your average is one home run a game or over then you're on a pretty good pace of normalcy ..
Some games all runs are homeruns, this isn't out of the ordinary ..
Home runs are becoming the norm as more and more are hit every year ..
MLB hit 5,610 HRs last year, 2nd most in history, to the tune of 1.16 per game. It went up .15 per game from just last year.
However, it seems the problem people are having is that there are 3-4 times that hit in every game they play. Plus, many of those HRs are being registered as mammoth bombs. Now, that could just be a case of the distance meter being off slightly, but seeing 3-5 HRs per game consistently is troubling.
I wanted to hope this "Too many HRs" claim was an issue of a small sample size when the thread was first started, but it seems there is something to this potentially. I personally haven't seen it to the extent others have, I haven't hit a HR over 420 feet yet, but I highly doubt 20+ people are just going to make this up without there being something there."Baseball is the coolest sport because, at any moment, the catcher can stop the game and go tell the pitcher a secret" - Rob FeeComment

Re: Too many HR's?
They were FAR AND AWAY the HR leaders, as the 2nd place team were the Cardinals and they only hit 225 for 1.39 per game.
If you want to go more in-depth, Baltimore hit a HR every 21.8 ABs."Baseball is the coolest sport because, at any moment, the catcher can stop the game and go tell the pitcher a secret" - Rob FeeComment

Re: Too many HR's?
Roger that, thanks for the info.
From a video game standpoint, I'd be personally ok if my team was around that number even if it's probably a little too high by true "sim" standards. As long as the number is in the realm of possible.
I need to start keeping track. In probably averaging under 2 a game right now for sure but I could be glossing over some results

Them, the Marlins and the Giants really brought the league average down, as they hit 122, 128 and 130 HRs."Baseball is the coolest sport because, at any moment, the catcher can stop the game and go tell the pitcher a secret" - Rob FeeComment

Re: Too many HR's?
Congratulations are in order then, because you broke the record of most combined HRs in a game! The previous record was set in 1987 when The Blue Jays and Orioles combined for 10 HRs in a game.

Re: Too many HR's?
First, let's keep them focused on server issues. Second, there is no way if they try to change home runs that they won't go way too far the other way. Let's give it a month before we go nuts complaining about anything but servers.Comment

Re: Too many HR's?
I play on All Star and maybe I suck compared to some of you guys but I think Home Run hitting seems pretty normal to me not much different then in 16. I have had games where have hit maybe 3 home runs then other games I had none or maybe 1 seems pretty normal and like real baseball to me anyway.Last edited by tnixen; 03-31-2017, 09:54 PM.Comment

Welcome to the board. Servers are an opportunity that's more important to some than the exaggerated power. I'm not one of those people. I'll continue to chat with others about their personal observations and potential solutions. Cheers Thebard.Comment

Re: Too many HR's?
Just gathering more data to see if this is indeed a big problem is a good first step. This just could be a case of a small sample size and everyone in this thread is just having some amazing HR luck. I mean, Rudy York did hit 18 HRs in one month in 1937 and only ended up with 35 for the entire season. In comparison, Barry Bonds highest HR total in a month when he hit 73 was only 17.
However, that being said, the mammoth HR distances is off. Perhaps that's just a case of the distance meter being slightly askew and the 530ft HRs are really only 440ft HRs.Last edited by BA2929; 03-31-2017, 10:00 PM."Baseball is the coolest sport because, at any moment, the catcher can stop the game and go tell the pitcher a secret" - Rob FeeComment
