Re: Too many HR's?
I've seen a check swing go for a home run in a junior college baseball game. I'm talking a pretty violent kind of check swing though (couldn't try if I wanted to), but it was not a full swing at all.
Not saying the game was replicating this kind of motion, of course. Probably just a glitch.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: Too many HR's?
I just finished spring training and the stats look good for the final spring numbers. Baltimore led with 46 HRs. Cubs .281 Ave. Dodgers 3.01 ERA.
In my opinion good solid numbers on the computer generated side. As for my Cardinals my pitching was very solid but as normal, I lacked some at that plate.
I settled on HOF on hitting, pitching and fielding. I'm using directional as a timing mode but I am not convinced that the players attributes are really controlling the PCI. I cannot seem to find anything that actually shows the contact of the ball on the bat. Does anyone know where to find that?
Okay...so Label_Hitchance. It can be found in Stats/Batter Analysis, under the "Result" filter - just cycle through to get to it. It plots every swing a batter takes, and measures their quality of PCI placement on a 1 - 15 scale. High numbers usually mean that, assuming timing was good, you will hit the ball hard. Most hits inside the PCI will be 15's or very close. As you get farther to the edges and outside of the PCI, this number will drop off.
As you can see, It's very possible to have 15's (meaning good pci placement) and still miss/foul depending on timing. So this can't be an end all/be all of how well you're hitting (not to mention actually getting that solid hit past the defense).
I'm using Zone here, but Hitchance works for all the other hitting modes too (as well as the CPU). That means you can use it to see where the game is placing the PCI behind-the-scenes to determine your contact on directional or analog. If the PCI didn't ever move from the middle on directional, you'd never see a ball hit on the strike zone corner (or outside the zone entirely) show up as a high number here. I can tell you that's not the case - solid contact can still be made on the corners in directional just by pressing the X button - but it's all up to where the game places that PCI. And that is all ratings driven.
Armor And Sword plays using directional and I'm sure he can attest to hitting balls solidly on the corners despite just taking a normal X swing. Anyone who plays directional probably can. And this mechanic is why they can do that.
Does that make sense?Comment

Re: Too many HR's?
On a side note, all this talking about sliders it's fine, but are you sure sliders can fix the issue ? Are you sure this issue isn't hardcoded with the game ? There's a tradeoff to pay ? It wouldn't be simple just to tweak it with a patch ?
And for all the "use sliders/it's accurate" guys, it hurts you if devs investigate on what many users are reporting all around the web ?Comment

I started playing the game as "timing" mode quite a few years ago because of that very reason.......using the players attributes as opposed to using my skill to nut the ball.Comment

Re: Too many HR's?
The problem does not appear this complicated to me. Although I only have about 200 at bats in RTTS. The difference I see, is the pitchesr are leaving pitches up in the zone more this year, a lot more. Especially early in counts. Definitely more so than last year. Reminds me of the year you could call timeout and immediately get a meatball on the next pitch.Comment

Re: Too many HR's?
Well, the home run rate in 2016 was the second highest ever (next to steroid era 2000), so it is possible that the coding reflected a huge surge in home runs that is simple multiplied due to user input (ie, we tend to make solid contact more than actual mlb players).Comment

As far as hardcoding......I'm almost 60 years old and most of you have forgotten more than I will ever learn about the backend of this kind of stuff.
Yes, your correct....if they patch the game to alter this, I will have to edit sliders again to make the game play the way I want it to......it just is what it is.Comment

Re: Too many HR's?
I'm seeing inflated home runs any time I adjust the weather. Partly cloud, overcast, etc. sunny days on all star seem to be normal results. Weather related games I'm seeing 8-10 HR's. including back to back to back in the 9th.

Re: Too many HR's?
Regarding sliders, I'm still on an incredibly small sample size, but outside of my Montero 492 foot blast and the CPU hitting a couple of 400+ foot shots the other way, I haven't seen anything outrageous yet. However, I know others have by doing the Longest HR Distance thread and I have also done so in Home Run Derby, so I am very aware of the situation.
Currently looking at less Power (click under), more Contact and Fouls or more Timing and Fouls (click over). Pitching control & consistency are just under.

Re: Too many HR's?
As far as sliders fixing the issue.....I am pretty happy with the results I am getting. Homeruns are inline with numbers being hit last season. During spring training I left a slider on a platter for Stanton and it landed 482' away.......longest homerun I gave up and a very reasonable number for him. The longest homerun I hit was 468' and I seen some 340' homeruns along the way.

Here a link of 2016 stats. Guess how many home runs cleared 500 feet?
Yep everything's playing just fine. Nothing to see here.Last edited by kiddlex; 04-04-2017, 10:18 AM.Comment

Re: Too many HR's?
How much have you played? I've finished 60 plus games and had innings (yes innings) where I hit multiple 500+ bombs with guys not named Stanton, Trout, or Harper on advanced levels using directional hitting with power down a notch sometimes two. It's either a design decision or a mistake. It's definitely not business as usual. If it's a design decision this is a paradigm shift for SCEA. If it's a mistake, I have to imagine it'll be patched in short order. I don't mind the moon shots as much as I do the percentage of runs scored that home runs are responsible for.

I'm not saying that people aren't seeing too many homeruns or too many moonshots, but given the fact that there are those of us who aren't seeing an issue, it concerns me if they nerf the power in the game that those of us who aren't experiencing the issue will then have a power outage. I also worry about other effects it will have on the game, like hard liners in the gaps that result in doubles, or hard hits that fly over the outfielders head.
You said you lowered power slider a few notches and it hasn't helped. Have you tried lowering contact slider? Seeing if lowering the ability to hit the ball on the sweet spot has any effect?Last edited by countryboy; 04-04-2017, 01:18 PM.I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

Re: Too many HR's?
I gotta agree with too many HRs. Played as the Tigers last night on Play Now, TNK's sliders, HOF. 5 Tigers' HRs in the game, 2 of them coming from Jose Iglesias, all no doubters. Second Tigers game and JD Martinez had 3. Both games at Comerica Park.
It's weird because I love the hit variety on everything else. It's just that when someone nails it, they REALLY nail it. And it seems to be happening too often, at least compared to what I'm used to - at least since '06, on all kinds of different slider sets.Comment

Re: Too many HR's?
Not sure why you feel the need to mock his experience, as he was only sharing what he has seen.
I've played 20 games thus far and I have yet to see a single homerun travel over 500 feet. I avg less than one homerun per game (0.87) and give up just over 1 per game (1.17). I play on HOF default.

Great game, however examining real world data from 2016 in its entirety shows that the show in it's current form is a departure from the game I've been playing since it's inception. As a nearly 15 year member of this board, I've never felt the need to defend myself sharing game opportunities as I have since the release of this years show. Many members of the board continue to police mostly relevant and topicable discussion, and it's like nothing I've ever experienced on OS.
500+ feet home runs aren't a game breaker for me, but it certainly challenges immersion. That's my last comment on the main board about the topic.
Here's to all enjoying a fine game.Comment

Re: Too many HR's?
I wasn't in any way mocking his experience, tone in text can be the tricky to convey. My bad if it came across that way. Tried many sliders, settings, and yes lowered contact. It throws other parts of the game off and slideritis soon flows.

Hmm...I thought that maybe lowering the contact slider would help. And I can see where it would impact other aspects of the game. and I agree about slideritis, which is why I never mess with them.
And in no way am I trying to make you defend your opinion or experience. I hope that is not how my post came across. What I am sharing is my experience and saying that there are those of us who haven't experienced this issue. Or at least some have found a way to remedy the issue via slider adjustments.
Like I stated, my concern is that if this gets patched that it could effect other aspects of the game and effect those of us who aren't experiencing the issue. I'm not saying there isn't a full blown issue nor am I saying that there is, just conveying the idea that there is a balance that has to be maintained and for myself, I don't want to see that balance disrupted.
Just out of curiosity, what skill level do you play on? What levels have you tried?Last edited by countryboy; 04-04-2017, 01:41 PM.I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.
