Re: Shohei Otani in The Show

I think the best way to implement this would be to bring back the ability to give pitchers a secondary position. If they have a secondary position then they show up under the bench in the lineup screen and you can put them in the lineup. If they're pitching that day they don't show up unless you remove the DH (which would be nice if there was a option to o that). In franchise, the simple way would be to set them in the lineup but have the AI automatically pick a player to replace them in the lineup when they're pitching. Otherwise, I'm sure some work would have to be done to where you have more control. Like, days whoever it is is pitching this exact player takes their place and hits in this spot in the lineup. Something of that nature. Since Ohtani announced he was coming to the states a little late in the development cycle I'm sure if we'd see anything it might be the former.

Either way, I'm super excited for this year's game!

I don’t think it can happen, they won’t put all this in the game for a player that isn’t going to be in the game, he won’t be in the game till a roster update in mid April

I think they'll make it work. He's one of the biggest stories going into the 2018 season. People might buy the game just to use Ohtani as a 2-way player, it would be a big disappointment if they weren't able to utilize his unique skill set.

Is Ohtani capable of being a two way player in Pro Yakyuu Spirits? I know he was in the final release of that game, but I’ve not played it. Just curious if it’s been done for him in particular.

I did upload it a while back, but the secondary positions either disappear or they are grayed out. I can't remember which one it was.

What they could do is update the game with a patch and add the Ohtani stuff at a later date.

The devs aren't going to ignore something so vital to the state of the game. Just be patient.

If my memory serves me right, I think they treated him as two players (a la Yahoo fantasy baseball) so he technically could be on two teams. I don't remember this being all the games I just remember it most, it may have been 2013 or something. I think the Pawapuro series had him as one in the most recent game.

Speaking of that, was it just me or did they add those "generic" hr celebrations that are extremely over the top at a later time? As well as like 16 through 19 of the generic batting stances? If they did I wouldn't be surprised that they add some stuff for Ohtani later on. Face scan not likely but other stuff I could see.

They included the switch pitcher Pat Venditte and Ohtani is a much bigger name than him. I can see them doing this.

Yeah but he was a actual Licence player in the game, Otani won't even have that till about mid April

When they first added Venditte in MLB 15 he didn't have the switch handedness. That wasn't included until MLB 16 and it was only Venditte exclusively.

We couldn't even give CAPS the ability to be switch pitchers.

Hopefully they make 2 way players possible in 18. It's more common than people think. It's not just Ohtani. Brett Eibner, Ike Davis, Cristhian Betancourt, Anthony Gose, Jordan Shafer etc.......have all become pitchers or 2 way players. Betancourt and Eibner were 2 way for sure last year.

The Astros may also use Gose as a 2 way guy this year if he makes the team out of Spring Training (He was Rule 5 pick). They plan on bringing him out of the pen and play the outfield from time to time.

Re: Shohei Otani in The Show

The biggest excuse is gonna be that 'people will exploit it online' that is why we could not change it in CAP as far as handiness goes.

I don't know how having a pitcher as DH can exploit online however, I just don't see how they can do this because Otani is only going to be a created player via a roster update come Mid April. because of Pujols I don't even know where he will play anyway. unless it's 1st base.

We can't even switch a position player to pitcher and edit that in could not do i switch Betancourt last year, we had to wait for a roster update for that. this would require changing a hell of a lot for example the stats. what can they do with this??

as far as I am away you can't look at position players as a pitching stat on the game, only the other way around.

so no doubt he will be a pitcher in the game. and I guess if you wanted to use him as a hitter you have to pinch hit for him or something and sacrifice a sub

I believe that the Show negotiated to add Fukudome before he played a mlb game with the Cubs.

                          It is possible.

Angels will likely give him 300-400 AB’s at DH/OF. That was one of his biggest sticking points. Pujols will likely end up on the bench or at first throughout the season.

In my current franchise I added to the Angels as a pitcher because I think that when all is said and done, this is where he will end up full time.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

He's not going to play the outfield. The plan at the moment is to have him DH on days that aren't the day before, the day of, or the day after he pitches. Pujols will likely play first base on the days Ohtani DHs. Things can change, but the Billy Eppler has confirmed that he will not play OF. Our OF is loaded already.
