Can you see hot/cold zones for DD players other than turning it on during a game?

Re: Directional Hitting Guide
First year trying Directional over Zone.
What I like:
-It allows me to focus on balls and strikes versus having to worry about guessing a location.
-I can absolutely punish a mistake pitch.
-I don't have to worry about jerking the PCI off the screen.
-Using influences based on hitters and counts.
What I am having trouble with:
-Hitting down and away strikes with good and bad hitters. I have tried push and pull (no down up or influence) and haven't been having any luck.
Any tips for the low and away strikes? I had to switch to Zone recently just to address these in a game.
Thoughts?Comment

Normally I'd suggest a push swing but you've already tried that. Mind you, you shouldn't be reacting and changing your influence mid swing like in zone, so in theory it shouldn't matter what influence you use.
What game modes are you playing? Is this for Franchise or RttS?

Re: Directional Hitting Guide
A word of warning: I don't play RttS, and there have been many who have complained that the guide hasn't worked for them in RttS, even when it is working exactly as described in their franchises. While I have my doubts, I have to at least acknowledge the fact that many people are struggling to see results in RttS. I suspect that the swing animation is the issue for most of them, but it is possible there is something just different about the game mode.Comment

Re: Directional Hitting Guide
This is my first year using directional as well after years of using zone and I’m enjoying hitting more than ever. Your hitting guide has been invaluable. Thanks👍🏻MLB: TORONTO BLUE JAYS

Hmm I've never had much trouble with low and away.

Overall I've been using the down influence a lot more than I used to, and I'm seeing a lot better results then I used to.Comment

I wouldn't be surprised.
I mean, logically, it shouldn't be a difference. RTTS should be player lock with story mode and off-field aspects attached. RPG off-field, same game on-field.
But it wouldn't be the first time a different mode had different gameplay for reasons.
I usually play player lock with a player in the minors half because I see differences in player behavior defensively (and I play auto-field in franchise so it's not a comparison to "what I would do"). Granted, that's pitching, not hitting, but still...that shouldn't be different either."Some people call it butterflies, but to him, it probably feels like pterodactyls in his stomach." --Plesac in MLB18Comment

Re: Directional Hitting Guide
Do you do a kind of registry or history in which you record the types of effective swings for each hitter ?
I'm thinking about doing this for my starting lineup on DD. I'm really curious to look at stats on different type of swings for hitters who are supposed to be very good like Mike Schmidt or flashback Nelson Cruz but are not performing well.Comment

Re: Directional Hitting Guide
Ok, i'll make an history of my swing/results and try to figure something out of the results.
Are there people using directional and this guide for ranked games in DD ? I have pretty good results using directional.
Also, if i can give you a tip (if not said before) directional is pretty effective to beat defensive shifts. That's how i beat CPU on legend difficulty.Comment

Re: Directional Hitting Guide
I assume you mean RttS, and yes that can be the issue. Your individual player might just have an issue hitting those pitches. A lot of factors can add up to this, but usually the most important one is the swing animation you chose. That is the biggest factor that creates the various minor quirks from player to player.Comment

Re: Directional Hitting Guide
I posted this question on a different thread but I’ll ask it here as well because I’m curious.
If you always use direction and hold it prior to the pitch and throughout, doesn’t that lend itself to really bad contact and kind of make hitting unrealistic in regards to sitting on pitches. Most MLB hitters hit the ball where it’s pitched. Sure they sit on pitches sometimes, but they also recognize and go with pitches as well.
For example: if I’m pressing in on the analog stick (trying to pull the ball) with a power guy, but when the pitch is released I see it’s going to be low and away but I don’t change my direction, will that not result in weak contact? It’s very difficult, as I’m sure most of us are aware, to pull the ball well on a pitch low and away. Does it happen, sometimes? Yeah, I’m sure. But not with regularity.
