It's been in the game longer than that. I still have a digital copy of '13 on my PS3 and it's in that game. I don't have my copies of '11 or '12 anymore so I can't say for sure about those ones.

Hey there, Jason here again, this time to relay some information on new features and improvements to the Online/SportsConnect area of MLB 09 The Show. Along with improving the league system and layout, this year we focused on two major components of the Online League System…A) Draft System; B) Flex Schedules (with new Schedule screen). [...]

Nope it was 14. I'm not talking leagues. I'm talking Online Franchise. It was introduced in MLB 14

I thought maybe it was a new option for RTTS where if your team doesn't make the playoffs, your RTTS character can play golf in the offseason.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

It’s frustrating that They (SDS) commented the whole mode out of the code. it’s probably still there just not available for selection from the menus. I’m not buying the “Kids”, spin. They have. Zero purchasing power., as kids. Just saying.

This decision is from the top. The actual code space occupied by OF was being grabbed by other modes’ expansion efforts. It’s obvious. The shady practice of not telling us early is what REALLY needs to be addressed, because they played our mob mentality to their advantage through preorders. It was not a last minute decision. That decision came months ago, maybe last year. That’s an atrocious breach of trust. If they cut DD or your favorite mode in any game, or your ability to create sliders or roster tweaks, without notice you’d be just as upset, and those are only features, not a whole game mode that brought small and large groups of people together for a common goal. They essentially did not give us the fair choice., by purposely hiding details of the MLB product despite repeatedly being asked a straight yes or no question from fans with real purchasing power. Speak with your wallet and it will return, just like the rush to buy stubs made DD a constant.. The kids have to ask for money we don’t.

I see them charging for the mode separately down the line, almost supported like DLC, just like other after market cash grabs, that’s IF it even returns. That glass is Half empty and leaking my dudes. They feel they are LOSING money if your not playing the intended money making mode. This is how the “competition” is removed, and the code space redistributed.

The same thing happened in 2k. there needs to be a percentage of our time dedicated for after market cash grabs now to justify the release. Now the approach is how much DLC can we sell slog with it. OF brings no addition money, unless it returns as DLC.

Who have thought Madden CC would be the only franchise mode standing when the DLC wars were settled. EA has a baseball opportunity here., as Cc is very popular.

First off......their parents all buy the game for them. So the kids are playing but the parents are paying. When I was a kid playing Atari 2600 my parents would buy me some games for the holidays, my birthday and I would wash cars and do stuff and save money and buy what I wanted too. So come on man.

Secondly I was simply pointing out where sports games are trending. Unless you are living under a rock Ultimate Team Card modes have taken over sports games across football, basketball, soccer and now yes....baseball. Diamond Dynasty is the #1 played mode on The Show now. I coach 13 and 14 year old boys who are all baseball junkies. They all play DD big time.

It is where the trends have gone.

Despite that The Show still offers many modes to play. They pulled online franchise and they gave their reason. Those that choose to just be belligerent about it or those that might want to give them a chance to rebuild it for 19 or 20....it will be what it will be.

I for one have stated many many times that if the mode actually worked I would have been in leagues. But the frustration of playing online has been bad for me personally. The game stunk online across all online modes.....not just Franchise.

My hope is they really got this worked out. And I truly hope they bring back franchise mode next year and make it even better than before. Because in it’s current state....it was junk compared to offline franchise.

Kudos to those that made it work all these years. You guys are troopers in doing so. But I share your frustration because baseball is by far my favorite sport and sports game to actually play on the console. Having a functional and immersive online franchise mode would be awesome. But this game has never even had that.

But it is clearly not a priority. And the kids and younger players is one of the main reasons. They all play DD and that will get the majority of development time. It is incredibly popular.

Let me tell you.....if offline franchise went bye bye.....future purchases of this game would be null and void for me. Pretty simple. So those that only play online franchise.....I get it.

But I also think this Dev team get’s it and knows they have a passionate franchise base of players and they will make good on it. If offline franchise was taken out of 18 but they told me they are revamping the franchise infrastructure or what not I would simply keep playing 17.....wait till 19 and see what they roll out.

They did not say it is over. They simply told you the truth. That they felt re-coding OF was not worth the development time since the mode is not payed much and also highly flawed (their fault of course). Time ran short and they made a decision.

But it seems a lot of people in hear don’t think it is the truth and insistent that they are liars, spinning the truth, etc etc etc. I just feel that that kind of rhetoric is uncalled for considering how well they have worked with the this community in the past. They actually listen. I know that. I have personally interacted with them. They do care about the game immensely. They will make mistakes and waiting till 3 weeks before release to unload this news was not great form. I agree. But let’s cool down the intense badgering like this is the end of the world. I guess I have a different perspective about “video games”. Especially after what my community where I live with my family and coached kids since 4,5 and 6 years old to now 13 and 14 and 15 just went through (Parkland).

Relax everyone. It’s just a game. Have fun.

I agree with Armor here. I don't believe this is a gone for good deal nor do I see this becoming DLC. I think that is an extreme overreaction to the news it won't be included this year.

I hate the fact it is gone, not because I played the mode, but because I'm always against features going away that have been there before. I do feel this team has earned my trust. It is for that reason I don't see this as a long term vanishing for Online Franchise nor do I see them moving it to a pay to play mode. They know the backlash they are receiving over it and I believe they will make it right next year. I believe them it wasn't the news they wanted to share.

But I do get your frustration and you can also understand why you'd think they might go the paid route. I just think they are smarter than that. Who knows? Maybe in a year's time you'll be able to run around and scream "I told you so" to all of us. But don't think so.

Has their been any confirmation that play a friend will be in? I have a group of 8 guys who if it is are still going to play a “league” of sorts. All games must be broadcast and will be played through the play a friend option if there is one.

Yeah I can’t see that not being an option. Playing your friends online is something that every sports games has (Madden, NHL, NBA The Show).
