Re: MLB The Show 18 Won't Feature Online Franchise Mode
It's not in for 18 and that is the only fact we know. Beyone that it is pure internet anger and fodder to insinuate it's gone forever, or no way it is coming back for 19.
This development teams deserves so much better than what some posters around here have been dolling out. I give constructive feedback to this team every year without having to get into public flaming posts about the job they do and passion they bring to making this game every year.
The love and passion they have for this title oozes out every year. They play this game as hardcore as anyone. They want the best game possible....because they play it too!!!
If the new server and online code works as intended I have little reason to doubt that online franchise will make a return. They know it is a niche but passionate part of their fan base. But to sit here and continually douse gas on what is a forest fire for the online franchise community and make broad based assumptions when the development team is not even thinking about 19 and won't be for a few more months is ridiculous and embarrassing to the membership and Show community here at Operation Sports IMO.Now Playing on PS5:

Re: MLB The Show 18 Won't Feature Online Franchise Mode
I don't read much into that...18 hasn't been released yet, they're not going to divulge what they're working on for 19, especially if they haven't started on it yet.
The point Ramone was pushing to me is online stability...if it goes well without issues, I'd suspect online franchise to be the big bet next year.

I think that the focus right now is that online works as it should. It's stable, doesn't crash, or what have you. Because if online doesn't work then online franchise is, well useless.
Bottom line is at this point in time, the only thing known for sure is that online franchise is not in '18. Anything beyond that is pure speculation.I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.
I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

Re: MLB The Show 18 Won't Feature Online Franchise Mode
Definitely a bummer. My buddy and I were getting amped to finally play together, but alas we won't. I just hope they fix what they need to fix and bring this mode back better than ever.
Sorry OF'ers. (Thats awkward, sorry!)

Then what's the point of saying "we won't forget about those guys"? There is no benefit in saying it's coming back next year, especially being they want to ensure their online servers are stable first before reworking online franchise.

Re: MLB The Show 18 Won't Feature Online Franchise Mode
Online franchise players have absolutely no reason to give the benefit of the doubt to Sony. We've been pushed aside for years, stuck playing a mode that was nowhere near the SCEA quality of other modes in the game and now we have nothing. Like I said before, if the mode was such a low priority and the #s didn't support spending time and resources on it in any of the previous 3 years..Then why would they spend development time in 19 rebuilding this niche game mode? All we can base our assumptions on is what we've been told over the years. Which is basically, thanks for buying the game and maybe next year you'll get improvements. Next year(s) have come and gone. Now we're rightfully fed up.
Like a few others have said here, card games and fantasy have absolutely ruined sports games. It's all about buying the super deluxe version now, buying stubs, packs and stacking teams so you can have a blast playing against the other users who have 75% of the same team. DD is the reason for the online infrastructure upgrades. Online play in general has never been great. But now with DD growing in leaps, bad servers could potentially cost them money. Frustrated players in DD that can't buy packs or see games not registering cant happen because if the mode isn't working properly, people eventually stop playing and spending money.
DD has been given more updates in 3 years then online season/franchise had in 8 years. Battle Royale was added to DD a year or 2 ago. Online franchise players couldn't even pull up past game box scores for online franchise games that year. The league website pages were stripped of more features each year since MLB 15. But pulling up a DD box score is a piece of cake.
The game sold over 1 million copies worldwide last year. So this is what the casual fan wants. Fantasy, stubs, and live streams. Gone are the days of a simple but effective fact sheet, that would take 15 mins to read. That's now morphed into a slowburn of endless streams that drag on for weeks.
DD is always going to be the main online focus now. So yeah based on all of this, I have no reason to believe online franchise will ever return. The best and only thing we can do (besides closing our wallets) is to stay vocal. So I'm sorry if that rubs some of the SCEA apologists the wrong way. I have been lucky enough to get invited to the studio twice and have nothing but respect for the crew there. That doesn't mean they don't deserve a little bit of criticism on this. They can handle it.
This thread should stay on page 1 all year. I hope online franchise players continue to vent their frustration. It's basically all we can do to ensure the mode isn't forgotten.Comment

What I really can't stand though is we are getting more and more of a mob mentality in hurling insults and just wasted posts. They are well aware of their "franchise" base. It's right here at OS. Offline and online. I never could stick with an online franchise because the mode stunk. It was half baked and then never touched and while we are at it online playability has been atrocious for as long as I have played this series.
The new age is upon us. The sooner everyone accepts reality about card collecting based modes the sooner you can get on with your life and not get all worked up about a video game.
And I am not directing this at you NYYanks.....this is in general to the flaming posts and insults I have seen hurled at SDS who by and large make one heck of a great baseball game. In fact the best console baseball game I have ever played bar none. And believe me.....I have played them all hardcore.
However I do see the glass half full. I do believe these guys are old school too. I do believe that once this online server and infrastructure is built out properly (and I hope and pray it is on 18) they will circle back and give Online Franchise the mode it has always deserved.
Functional and fun.
It does not have to be full of bells and whistles. It simply needs to work and function like offline franchise. If/when that happens I am sure we will have a happy community (well mostly as there are always doom and gloomers and naysayers).
I coach two baseball teams (13U Travel and 14U Middleschool) all my players have PS4's and play The Show. All they talk about is Diamond Dynasty.
That's it. They kid with me about franchise mode!!! They tell me how do you play 162 games? Blah Blah Blah. Play me a DD game coach.
This is where sports games have gone. We are old men here crying about video games?
Sorry if to me it sounds a little ridiculous. But I am just as passionate about my sports games as the next guy.....but I find a way to make them work with whatever hand I am dealt.
Sorry for being too Zen or too optimistic....label me a fanboi...call me an apologist.....I really don't give a ****.
I love the game, I love playing Madden, 2K....does not matter. The games today are better than ever and it is not even close.
And yeah again....this particular group of guys (SDS) get it too. They improve the game every year, they make incremental but effective gameplay improvements every cycle and I do believe once online is functioning like it should we will see an online franchise mode return and function as it should. It may take a cycle...maybe two? I don't know. But they do deserve a chance to work it out.
As far as being sore about where it falls on the priority list? Wake up. Reality needs to soak in. These guys need to work and put food on the table. Card Modes are the present and where all the money is being made each cycle.
Competition arguments? HA!!! They would make card modes too!!! Otherwise they would never compete and be able to produce a AAA baseball game.
The world is about revenue. Sports games are about card modes.
Our time came and went once the PS2 era was over.
Thank goodness I can still play franchise modes offline in baseball, football ,basketball, hockey, boxing, tennis etc and have my little universe and fun.
I would suggest anyone who has not played OOTP baseball to give it a whirl. If your looking for an incredibly deep franchise game where you have total control of everything (except actually hitting, pitching and fielding) and crave a franchise mode where you can be the GM and Manager......it is the best for that.
As far as Diamond Dynasty.....I embraced it on MLB 15 and 16 and really got into it. On 17, online connectivity and gameplay was so bad I had to stop. So I truly hope it is worked out and I truly hope Online Franchise returns. I would love noting more than to play in an online franchise....I would do a classic roster online franchise in a nano second too!!! (I tried it on 16 with the 1987 roster but like all of you know, the play-ability and functionality was terrible).
Hopefully they do a solid on 19 and make it right. If they don't and this is the only mode you play. The game is already dead to you.
My sincerest condolences. It sucks for you. Not much else can be said. But the game will move on regardless. It is gaining even more traction with DD. Why? Because that is the present. That is what the kids play. Now Playing on PS5:

Re: MLB The Show 18 Won't Feature Online Franchise Mode
There you have it folks. Everything that can be said, needs to be said, is gonna be said in four simple words posted by Armor... THAT'S WHAT KIDS PLAY... repeat.. THAT'S WHAT KIDS... KIDS, KIDS, KIDS, KIDS play.
The days of adult thinking, strategy, statistics, sim type games are gone. It's all about KIDS.. Money is spent by KIDS. They don't want to think, They want action, they don't care about statistics, long involved series, They want 900 feet home runs, they want 100 to 75 point Football scores. They don't want to be bored with realism. That's not fun. They want to play for 15 minutes and move on to the next game. Why would they play an ol franchise season when they can purchase studs, buy tokens and out do their friends. They can beef up a player and play HR derby. They would love it if a player exploded and the stadium would collapse after a HR.
This is now the mindset of video game makers. Get used to it. With in 4 to 5 years franchise will be a thing of the past in all video games. H2H games wont exist. if you want to play anyone, you will have to play OL.
This is a new day and age, Old players like myself are considered relics. We don't need to think or strategize any more. We just need to react and have quick hands and thumbs. About all we have left is Chess or Golf for people like myself.
Those of you that believe that Franchise is going to be improved over the next few years or put back OL. I wish you the best of luck. I have seen franchise diminish with promises to get better every year.. And then all of the sudden, they are cut out at the last minute. Look at Madden.. Same story every year. But it never happens. Just remember Armors words. THAT'S WHAT KIDS PLAY. And in today's world. That's what video games are all about.. KIDS and money spent by kids.Last edited by CleveCluby; 03-10-2018, 05:06 PM.When I do something right, No one ever remembers.
