Re: MLB The Show 18 Won't Feature Online Franchise Mode

I love the idea of online franchise, would love to participate in a online franchise (though probably wouldn't have time to commit to one) But the online in general has been very poor for years that to do a online franchise would have to been a living hell. I'm in no way a online player, i have only played a few games online with the show through out all the years. Most of the games i played online in the show, suffered from lag, framerate drops, glitches, etc etc.

However, despite those issues i was still able to play a full game and i'll tell you what, some of them were the most fun i have ever had playing the show. Something about playing another human oppose to the cpu just feels different. It can be very intense, challenging, frustrating, exciting, all the things playing baseball should be about. To bring all those feelings to a online franchise mode where you are grinding out a whole season against 29 other human competitors, would just be over the top. Hopefully one day, maybe next year they get it right and bring it back.

Will The Show 17 servers stay up with ability to play OF? that's the least they can do.
That is actually a really good idea... I guess $$$$ come into play here too they were would revenue not having the game out for a year though.

The Rugnly League game does it updates with a patch all the rosters and uniforms before the season kicks off. that game is usually a 3 to 5 year cycle too

well I would feel sorry for the online guys if this is the only choice they have because Judge will be going for rookie of the year with Acuna in 18, and you will see all the players with a annoying R next to their name that are no longer rookies

No Online Franchise just cost Sony $550.........from me. My baseball coaches I work with finally had me convinced to pick up a PS4 so I could play The Show online with them. I was debating between the Pro, since I just picked up a 65" 4K UHD TV, and the slim edition. Would have shelled out $60 for the game and $60 for PSN, with tax would have roughly been $550 if not more. With no rush to get The Show, I can sit back and wait on deals for the console and the game. Haven't played this game since the old PS3 days, so I am super excited to finally get my hands on it....even it is in 2019.

Side note, can anybody tell me if it is worth the extra $100 for the Pro? I have a Xbox One X already, so basically does it really make that big of a difference in graphics? Is Sony going to release a better rival to the X in the next year or so to just get the Slim and upgrade later?

I feel for them too, but at least there is something. It may not be an ideal option, but for those that would like to continue to play online franchise, they at least would have that option if the servers are kept on.

If the servers are taken down then they have no option at all.

That would be the least of my worries playing Online Franchise. Much bigger issues at hand to have to workaround.

Not to make this a console war but PS4 has far better games than the Xbox currently. If you care about graphics, load speed etcc....get the Pro. If you are just a casual, than don't worry about it.

The extra 500g of memory and updated guts are worth the extra $100 in my opinion. Yet alone the 4k'ish capabilities (i say 4k'ish only because i hear its not a true 4k console)

true but I couldn't deal with it, would be glaring and annoying for me. kinda defeats the purpose for franchise have about 3 times the amount of rookies on the same rookie service time. it completely ruins the ratio out of it.

when Madden took out 32 team control I tried a similar thing with older Madden and it annoyed me to much and I didn't last long with the inaccuracies of rookies who were not. Add to the fact you have to play the same schedule again from 2017.

... as long as you bought the game they’re making as much money

everyone complains that it is a roster update only with little change. so would you rather no game, or wait another year for more features.

I mean the Witcher 3 didn't take 9 months to make. for 200+ hours of story.
lol Man even sports game are being compared to Witcher 3 now. I don't understand the frothy lovefest that everyone has with that game, it bored the hell out of me.

Anyways, you can't compare the two. In conventional game development for RPG or MMORPG's, the majority of your development time, and money, is poured into making the content of the game, quests and stuff for players to do. You don't have that burden in sports titles. Obviously they have some limitations, but I have no tolerance/patience for the Madden/Show franchises having any amount of legacy issues. The gameplay should be fixed and tuned first and then you worry about adding stuff and/or taking stuff away. If they can't do that, what the hell are they doing for 9 months then? You've got one job in a sports game, gameplay is paramount. I've stopped buying madden completely due to that, I still buy the show because they have less of a problem with it, though there still are issues lingering around like that.

Point is, they don't have to worry about making content for the game every year. Sports games are basically the ultimate sandbox games, they give you the tools, and you tell the story.
