I can't see why you won't in RTTS. You just can't use them anymore to build your player via attribute points. hence the no micro-transaction statement. Stubs now will buy you equipment as they always have. Now Playing on PS5:

Not just one bat, I have a lot of added equipment. But I only have one Diamond piece and it is shoes. Everything else is Gold or Limited Edition. Equipment does not carry over from game to game.In Loving memory of my "Cricket" 1/2/96 - 11/19/2012

You earn stubs from simply playing the game....you can either save up for it or try your luck at packs.
I have no issues with it. It makes it more of a challenge. But I love collecting cards and finding the elusive diamond bat or glove. I think it will be super cool.
Look at it this way. Let's say you pull a Altuve or a Judge....but you don't play DD. You can sell that card for an enormous amount of stubs and buy some diamond equipment with that haul.
It will interesting to see the market place this year.
To me at least, they've been pretty sneaky and pretended to take out microtransactions but instead actually just made them a lot more important as now you can buy something with stubs that is completely unavailable without them, which wasn't the case last year.
The top diamond equipment is going to be insanely expensive because of the caps on DD and RTTS players.Comment

Seems like a bit of a con to brag about taking out microtransactions though, when they've implemented a ratings cap that can only be circumvented with the thing they claim they've taken out. Yes you can get the stubs through playing, but that was true last year for the training point boosts and the like.

I for one.....think that it has an old school smell to it. It makes it worth the grind instead of always knowing...well if I grind long enough I will be an all mighty elite baseball god.
Different strokes for different folks. I like knowing there is no guarantee I will be a once in a lifetime player in RTTS. I have to play the game and then hope for that awesome equipment sponsorship to help put me over the top.
It is what you make of it. For me that is how I will approach it. I get that diamond bat, that gold cleat, that diamond elbow guard...that diamond glove....yes....that is fun to me.
It's not everyone's cup of tea. I get it. But I also think you will absolutely have the chance to become a rare elite player on RTTS in 18. Despite ratings caps.
How about we all play the game and not jump to conclusions. I know i am also jumping the gun in saying you can be a rare elite as well. So I am going to withhold judgment till we play the game for a month or two.
But in the meantime....I am loving the direction of the mode itself. It has me playing it on 17 and looking forward to 18's mode as well even more. Now Playing on PS5:

Re: Revamped Road To The Show - Gamespot Video & Article
Unless they have taken out daily rewards and weekly packs, then everything I have on my player was post game or weekly rewards. I never bought a single pack or item with stubs, never spent real $ at all, until last month with the new game coming out and I was sitting on like a huge pool of stubs.
Everyone's luck will be different though. Even through there are a lot of Equipment slots it may be tough to compensate for the caps on all of the skills. You may need to concentrate on only a fewComment

The celebration for me is that it represents a developer moving away from microtransactions (even slightly), which is not something we're seeing much of in this industry right now.

I don't have SDS's numbers obviously, but I'd say they didn't see as many stubs being bought for improvement in RTTS as they did DD. This could be an underhanded way, in unison with the changes to created player in DD, to actually increase microtransactions in both those modes by, as others have said, making the equipment far far more valuable. I suppose we'll never know if that's the plan or not, but I find it hard to believe they'd throw away tons of cash for this design decision. I would wager they have their own internal metrics they're looking at that suggest they'll actually make more money this way.
I know I never spent a dime on RTTS, but I don't buy any stubs, but I would invest the stubs I was earning playing RTTS anyways back into my player. I would assume this is how your average player probably did it in the past.Comment

Neither buying equipment this year, or buying training points last year really were "micro transactions" as such in my book as they could be bought with stubs that you could earn in the game as opposed to only with cash, but my point is that they are more necessary this year than they were last (boosts were an optional shortcut, equipment is necessary to get beyond a certain rating) and yet they are claiming they've taken that aspect out of it.Last edited by BigOscar; 03-08-2018, 04:30 PM.Comment

Re: Revamped Road To The Show - Gamespot Video & Article (IGN video Included)
Another big takeaway I got from this, these attributes progress SLOWLY. It’s gonna take a week or so of a hot streak to bump up power or contact 1 point! In years past a good week and your Overall increases by like 5 points.
This is going to take away the callups to Triple A and MLB during your first season as an 18 year old.
Going to make the minor league grind longer and more difficult

Some other nice takeaways from the IGN video:
1.) The cutscenes and replays look way smoother this year. In 17, even on a PS4 Pro there would be a bit of chug between plays.
2.) Swings look way better. The HR replay looked much more natural.
3.) Nice to see it's still possible to advance on wild pitches. I was worried they'd overcompensate here. Very happy to see it looks balanced.
4.) Faces and stadiums look much improved. Was always an eyesore in RTTS.
5.) Love the new fielding cam.Comment

Re: PlayStation Underground RTTS video
Loved the double down the line. The grass finally didn't slow it down, which allowed it to role to the wall for a double. Nice to see that addressed.
The popup in the first game after he singled where he ran on contact, ran through second, went back, stopped, then ran all the way back to first and was safe was very annoying. The cpu fielder should've doubled him off EASILY!Comment

Re: Revamped Road To The Show - Gamespot Video & Article
Exactly. Last year you could get a player as good as you wanted without actually needing to spend a single stub. This year you won't be able to do that. Maybe you'll earn enough stubs while playing to afford the equipment required to do that, but the fact is that you will this year need to spend stubs this year to get the best possible RTTS player.
