Re: PlayStation Underground RTTS video
One thing I'm curious about is how power and contact are going to be increased. I know Ramone's saying that he gets power bonuses from power swinging (which makes sense), but what happens if I hit a HR with a normal or even contact swing? And is there a power increase for gap doubles/triples?
Two things that are going to be extremely gratifying to improve are my Vision and Plate Discipline, because I enjoy working counts and getting quality at-bats. Seems like you gain plate discipline for every Ball taken (not just walks), so that could improve pretty fast if you have a good batting eye.
Really enjoyed that video. The slowdown off the bat and that weird no-reaction infield play at the end were the only things that bothered me.Comment

Re: Revamped Road To The Show - Gamespot Video & Article
As a fan of obtaining the utmost realism out of this game, I'm happy to see the changes to this year's RTTS. The MLB is rapidly evolving into a league of specialization and one-dimensional players, and I think archetypes are a fantastic way of representing that change in The Show.
In past iterations, I've certainly made my share of 99 overall superhuman players at nearly every position, but the challenge just wasn't there after a while. In MLBTS17 I created new players instead of carrying over previous ones with the intention of specializing at one or two different facets of the game, which made it far more fun to play.
The new version seems to be much more challenging. The migration away from training points toward gameplay-oriented progression is a welcome change since it actually represents your skills as a player and gives you incentive to hone your tendencies as a gamer.
One thing I hope for is that this type of progression is implemented in Franchise mode. I'd like to see archetypes there too, especially when scouting players and developing guys in the minors.
As long as they work on improving GM and Manager AI in RTTS, this mode will be nearly perfect, at least in my opinion.Comment

Re: PlayStation Underground RTTS video
If you're using one of the other control settings on one of those types of hits, you're pretty likely to miss the branch points on the throw and end up resetting to "throw ready" before you can finish the throw input. Even for me, and I've played RTTS since the mode was introduced - my reflexes just aren't that good. Even if it doesn't cost you an out (the ball is hit hard after all, and you have all day to make the throw most of the time), it still looks bad. And it's more likely to cost you a double play because of how smoothly those throws need go.
So, if that's what Chris was getting at when saying people couldn't react in time and that being why the slowdown was made standard, I can accept that. Gotta make the mode fun and playable for everyone, for any position they might choose. The great thing is that it's still an option.Last edited by bcruise; 03-09-2018, 04:56 PM.Comment

Another big takeaway I got from this, these attributes progress SLOWLY. It’s gonna take a week or so of a hot streak to bump up power or contact 1 point! In years past a good week and your Overall increases by like 5 points.
This is going to take away the callups to Triple A and MLB during your first season as an 18 year old.
Going to make the minor league grind longer and more difficult
I'm not sure the way difficulty level works in RTTS stays the same as before (i.e., AA lowers difficulty by one from setting, AAA is played at the setting, MLB increases by one), but if you are so inclined you might still be able to lower the difficulty/adjust sliders to help accelerating the experience down in minors.Comment

Yes, I don’t recall them mentioning any changes to the difficulty settings. My main thing is that it was too easy and too quick to upgrade your player to an overall that is MLB Ready. I like the new progression system because it forces you to play the game and play well enough to legitimately improve and getting to that MLB ready overall is going to be much more satisfying.

Re: Revamped Road To The Show - Gamespot Video & Article
Not meaning to beat a dead mosquito, but
So with that option turned on, whenever I'm in the outfield / infield whatever the count is, I know the ball is going to be hit toward my direction.
So if I'm playing SS and it's a big time hitter like Stanton and the count is 3-2, I know it's NOT going to be a HR because I'm playing in the infield during that at-bat.
That's the predictable-ness I'm talking about. I might not be fully explaining what I mean.
Basically when I'm using that option, I've never seen a HR or another big play happen while I was playing defense. You guys are still missing the point. I obviously know you can turn the option off. But when you do, you have to play the entire game basically. And when you want to get through games faster to get through multiple seasons faster, it would be nice to have that randomness in quicker games. The result play option that was in the game before was perfect.
Not sure why it was taken it out. You could have watched the last pitch of every at bat, so you wouldn't know when the ball was coming your way.
I used to use during key playoff games, and then they removed the option and only left the every pitch option and I highly doubt anyone would use that option.
(Aside from the misuse of the term "scripted"), extremeskins was referring to the mentioned "Result Play" mode which used to be in RTTS that was taken out when the major effort was made to accelerate the quicker RTTS experiences (last year I believe?).
Some people may argue that watching other players in your team is boring and a waste of time... which is true in the vast majority of time, but as Factzzz mentioned, being able to do so at the right opportunities like important regular season games, playoff games, all-star games, etc. could add significantly to the atmosphere of playing a team-oriented sport. I loved Result Play feature when it existed.
I think the devs have been doing a good job introducing RPG-like elements by adding stories in periphery, outside the gameplay, but I'd still argue that by removing Result Play option and similar, the team-sport element and the feeling of your presence among your peers is totally lacking, because you almost never see your teammate plays...
Though RTTS is enjoyable as it is, I still get a sense that I only play in a bubble of just myself.
Do you have any memory of great teammate(s)/opponents you sort of competed with as rivals, the kind of players with whom you can reminisce good moments and write stories with when your RTTS career ends? I bet you hardly remember any players from your RTTS career right now, especially if you don't do any fielding or base running. In that sort of way, I think the mode still has a potential to grow in the area of gameplay.
Results Play helped me to customize that experience (even if that may not have been the intended use of the option).Comment

Re: Revamped Road To The Show - Gamespot Video & Article
Also think of the 5 tool players right now or throughout history. Like Mike Trout, I dont think he would be maxed out on all stats, his speed, glove, and average are definitely high but his power and arm wouldnt be 99. Even 5 tool guys are lesser in some categories. I think the equipment boosts are really going to help players become a realistic 5 tool player.San Jose Sharks

Someone will have to explain me one day where’s the fun playing a guy who’s 99 maxed out everywhere.
To me it sounds like playing battlefield 1 with an inter-galactic space warrior.
But I may be missing something somewhere ;-)Last edited by TripleCrown; 03-09-2018, 08:56 PM.Comment
