Ouch!, really? I missed that stream....I'm still on the fence even though I have it reserved at Gamestop for Friday. But yea, it figures the commentary is still ****e!...They should just call the game "Matt Vasgersian Baseball The Show" Why oh why is this man still commentating in the game for 10+ years is baffling! I'm starting to think he's either blackmailing someone at SDS or he's a silent partner($$$) producing the game!...lol

As for the commentary, same old Matty V. Pre game, during game, post game. Stale and boring like the rest of the game.Comment

As if streaming a game early would effect sales anyway. if anything it would raise sales.
If I was a Dev I would be happy about a early stream to create more talk, unless I knew it was gonna be a crap game!
it was funny reading the chat in there of all the jealous snitches who had nothing better to do but report him.Comment

Re: Anybody else still on the edge about buying?
I went from 15 on PS3 to 17 on PS4 and I was underwhelmed surprisingly. From the videos I've seen, 18 will be underwhelming as well. If Super Mega Baseball 2 wasn't coming out this year I'd probably pay $60 for it because I enjoy the game of baseball that much. I may get it when it's on sale for around $30. I need something that feels fresh though. SMB2 will scratch my baseball itch.
But I can't in my mind, for the life of me, understand how someone could want to play Super Mega Baseball instead of the Show. I can understand if you're not a big baseball fan and just like the fun factor of SM2. But if you love or even like baseball and get in the mood when the season rolls around, I can't wrap my head around playing anything besides OOTP over the Show. For the sim guys, OOTP 19 is phenomenal. No doubt, that game is impressive.
Despite its well documented flaws, the Show is an iconic video game. In my opinion, it stands with 2k as the best overall sports game of this decade, wayyy above Madden, NHL or any golf game that's been released. Not into soccer, so not sure about FIFA/PES. And for my money, I'll take the Show over 2K.
Regardless if you like or hate the year to year changes and/or new features implemented, the effort and transparency is always there with the streams Sony does leading up to release. And the obvious passion and effort they have in the game always seems to be present. So I guess I don't understand all the negativity surrounding this game year to year.
I have no issue with dissapointment over a feature not making the game or frustration with the servers at times. But to not want this game as a baseball fan just doesn't make any sense to me.Comment

Re: Anybody else still on the edge about buying?
Anyone else also bothered by the new rating system? Like, how the heck isn't Mike Trout a 99 Overall? He's one of, if not the best player to come around in 15+ years. He's finished Top 4 in MVP voting in 6 straight years including 2 1st place trophies. Sorry but if Trout's not a 99, then who the heck should be? Might as well max out at 96. May seem to small to some people but that's another thing that is contributing to me being on the edge.
If you say Trout isn't a 99 OVR, then neither is Ted Williams, Musial, Mays...etc. Musial was slow and never hit 40 HRs. Ted Williams was slow, injury prone, and pretty terrible on defense. Willie Mays was all-around dynamite but his career wRC+ is 15 points lower than Trout's.Chicago Cubs | Chicago Bulls | Green Bay Packers | Michigan WolverinesComment

Re: Anybody else still on the edge about buying?
It's pretty transparent that they are trying to make the 125-rated players in DD stand out more. Mike Trout should definitely be a 99 OVR (although I despise going by OVR ratings in the first place). Trout has been comparable to Mickey Mantle so far and is bee-lining for a 1st ballot HoF selection.

Not saying I love it or don't. I'm still mulling it through. But that is the logic used and why those cards are much higher than Trout or any LS card.Comment

Re: Anybody else still on the edge about buying?
Money isn't the issue for me but I use manage mode and it wasn't good last year. I like some of the changes but I'm concerned the new tag system will just be automatic outs on all close tag plays.
I'd hate to buy the game and then feel like a chump. Might wait to see more gameplay before I buy although if I was convinced gameplay was okay I'd pre-order.Last edited by tessl; 03-21-2018, 10:46 AM.≡Comment

And with Online being added for SMB2, there is a chance that this will be the better game to play online, since The Show has never even been passable, to me. Of course, that is assuming SMB2 can nail online play on their first try, and that is asking a lot. MLB 2K got pretty close with their online play, but it was still flaky. At least you could read balls and strikes instead of turning pitching and hitting into a game of Rock-Paper-Scissors.
But SMB2 will not have any league play functionality, which is a bummer. It would be the perfect game for some cool 6-man leagues.
I'm going to have both games, so we'll see which one is more fun to play.Comment

Re: Anybody else still on the edge about buying?
For many people, gameplay is more important than accumulating stats. And SMB was surprisingly fun to play, and still very realistic in how games played out. All I need is a game that makes each at-bat fun and important, and not something you feel like you need to skip with quick counts.

But what do you think is so bad about online play? The servers have sucked for small blocks of time but overall it's been a fun as hell game to play online. And judging by how many people have been playing online, I don't think that's a minority opinion.
Servers are definitely frustrating at time, no doubt. But I find that in most games that I play online. Servers are a somewhat unexpected type of thing. Hoping they are better this year being they supposedly spent loads of time trying to make them more efficient for the increasing amount of people playing.Comment

Re: Anybody else still on the edge about buying?
A definite pre-order since like 2012, this year, not so much. The videos have not shown me that this game has made any serious leaps forward, thus not warranting SDS or Sony getting my money early, or at full price. Will probably wait to see a few days worth of reviews from OS and across the internet before diving in again. Until then, I will play 17' with updated rosters from the vault.
Used to be a game I would drive 100 miles to get it 3 or 4 days at a significant higher price. Sad that I still, 2 days from release, am still very on the fence.Comment

Re: Anybody else still on the edge about buying?
Of course,
I won't even consider buying until I'm proven that the in-game ambiance has been brought up to par, at least with expectations for what they should be capable of. If they went that extra mile to level up showcasing pride in their presentation, that would put me over the edge and force my hand into being a day one supporter of the game.
The only notable improvement this franchise has taken over the past 4 years is with ball physics. Gameplay otherwise has been a smoother version of what was on PS3 with a hugely underwhelming presentation package, especially when compared with contemporaries. Defensive gameplay has the potential to be an exciting facet of their improvements too. Ultimately, it's important for a game like this to look and feel as good or even better as it does to physically play it. Presentation is about the biggest feature they have promoted for this version, but I'm still in the dark about how well it has improved. I won't be able to bypass the series for the entire cycle, this time, but I'm not currently excited because their track record hasn't been encouraging enough lately to warrant my excitement.Red LegendComment

Trout has put together a hall of fame worthy career statistically speaking, but to compare him to the legends of the game you got to let his career run its course. Pujols put together a decade of absolute domination. Very few players matched his output in that timeframe, but age regression and injuries kept him from reaching certain milestones he had the talent to reach. It happens to everyone, the best of the best. Some guys it happens earlier than others.
This why I like the separation of ratings for DD from other modes. No doubt for other modes with 99 caps Trout should be a 99 (I have yet to see what his non DD rating is). He is the best player in MLB right now. But when you add in legends of the game he's obviously going to be a notch below. He could very well become arguably the greatest ever, but that hasn't happened yet.
There are plenty of things that depress me about this game. Some areas where realism doesn't match up. Old physics engine and animations clash with new ones. There are unrealistic pop outs to catcher, and I make contact on balls I have no business touching. Franchise is stale and key components don't function quite to real life expectations. We can be honest and The Show probably has the worst presentation and commentary of any yearly sports title. Matty V has needed to go years ago, to use the excuse of all the dialog they have saved of him is atrocious, we've heard everything he's got to say and it's redundancy drowns out any improvements they try to make. There is a reason John Madden doesn't do the football game named after him anymore. You've got so many great play by play guys they could go after, and they could blend in to the new color group they have with DeRosa and Pleasac.
With that said, this game is so good. It really is fantastic. It's the best simulation sports franchise all around, and it's produced by a much smaller studio on a smaller budget. This game can be bad if you choose to dwell on things that you don't like, but that goes for anything. I go through moments when I can't stand the game, but I always come back to it satisfied. I've played 17 sparingly the last couple weeks, online play became too frustrating and i tried to do the Altuve grind but burned out on it. However, I have been having so much fun against the CPU with WTNY's realism roster that I made some updates to be close to current day. The hitting physics are better offline, and the roster re-rates foster so much more realistic play both offensively and defensively I've gotten addicted to playing it again. I love baseball, and I love the Show.
I think we are a very outspoken group that is very passionate, and we feel entitled sometimes by how much interaction we get from SDS, you don't see other developers of the other major sports titles interacting with their fans like they do, or showing game improvements pre launch like they do. I'm just as guilty of it as anyone else, but heck it's the only game I play and I enjoy it very much. So, when we get no response or the response is not very helpful (god the style guide excuses) we tend to bite back hard, and we'll go after each other depending on what side of the fence we land on. All things considered though, this is one bada** community we have. Great rosters, slider sets, SOTS lists, helpful input etc.
I understand some of you that don't want to purchase the game this year, that is your right to do so. It sucks that you guys feel that way, and I wish it wasn't that way for you. Personally, I am pre ordered and ready to download, and ready for first pitch weekend. I'm at home recovering from gall bladder surgery so I'm going to get some major time in lol 😎Comment

Re: Anybody else still on the edge about buying?
Come on now, Trout is the best on the planet but he's got 6 years under his belt. To use his 6 year wRC+ average against Willie Mays' 22 seasons is ridiculous. He has quite a bit to go to catch career milestones. In Trout's first 6 full seasons he had two 10+ WAR seasons, so did Mays. The only metric that really separated them is fielding where it's undeniable Mays was much better. It's all relative anyway, they are playing in two totally different eras. Hard to quantify all this data when they game was so much different then than it is now.

as for your other points, I can't dispute that buying MLB 17 and 18 the show would be a smart purchase for any kind of person desiring baseball at any cost, but while taking that into account there exists people on the opposite, highly critical end of the spectrum who won't buy into the series anytime soon.Red LegendComment

Re: Anybody else still on the edge about buying?
reading that while in a willie mays warmup shirt was/is satisfying but my gripe with the DD fictional ratings are with cases like Kershaw and current players who accomplished things even bonafied legends have not, such as Altuve. Their attributes will remain on planet earth while legends will come down with alien marks and it's just distasteful. without giving it a chance, it still feels lazy and unwelcome and I don't even play Diamond Dynasty nor intend to. my problem with online modes is when there is a lack of diversity on the game lobbies, but that is just my personal gripe with anything online oriented.

I acknowledged that there are different opinions than my own, and those that choose not to purchase are justified in their decision. Everyone has areas they are highly critical of, importance is in the eye of the beholder and we all have our quirks and things that bug us. I felt it was important to acknowledge that, and commend the community as a whole for it's role and contributions to my favorite game.Comment
