Re: Anybody else still on the edge about buying?

I decided to buy after watching some of the streams where they talked about the updates to hitting and how this yr fixing gameplay improvements seemed to be their main objective.
Guess I'll find out soon enough if they did what they said.

So is this tourney streamed on twitch today, if so what time. Thanks

Will probably wait to see a few days worth of reviews from OS and across the internet before diving in again. Until then, I will play 17' with updated rosters from the vault.

Used to be a game I would drive 100 miles to get it 3 or 4 days at a significant higher price. Sad that I still, 2 days from release, am still very on the fence.
So I'm quoting myself just to say, I got weak last night and pre-ordered digital deluxe on PSN. I'm telling you though, if I'm caught saying "maybe next year" too many times, this will never happen again.

Look at impression thread. Someone said they have the game and it looks like a roster update. Same as 17. Ugh

Believe me when I tell you that despite the loud loud minority about hitting is broken on 17 blah blah blah blah......offline gameplay was an incredible jump up as the ball physics were a game changer along with humanity AI with urgent and non urgent throwing, and imperfect tracking of fly balls from the CPU and fielding ratings actually mattering.

This cycle they really tuned it more and really killed it with the new tagging system and catcher animations which plagued 17 (that was the bugaboo for me but did not kill my love and immersion for that game overall as I am playing 17 still to to this day...which will be my last day with 17 LOL).

If you are a hardcore baseball fan and love playing the actual game (not simming) you really should go for it. You will be happy.
Thank you for all of that. I am interested in the gameplay and graphical improvements, of course. But at the same time, I felt that 16 was very, very solid in this regard. Not sure what to expect as a bump, but I'll find out.

Also, despite playing thousands of games of The Show over the years, and playing video baseball games for decades, I'm just....not that good, lol. I only am able to play with some slider adjustments that others would likely scoff at. I'm not sure if that will effect how the gameplay goes one way or the other. I know that sliders can mess some things up.

Do you, or anyone else for that matter, know if they improved the variable difficulty after 2016? My whole experience with the system is that it goes from too easy to WAY WAY WAY TOO HARD!!! in the blink of an eye. Maybe the style of play that I use, but for me that's the experience.

Re: Anybody else still on the edge about buying?

So with release date almost here, I take it, that there is no more new features and improvements, than whats already been mention? If this is the case, it looks like my MLBTS days are done with,as far as buying it new each yr on release. Had really hope they were leaving the best till last, and while the improvements they did make are a welcome addition, I cant say its 65$ worth of improvements to the only mode I play which is franchise So its OOTP19 for me this yr anyway.
I dont ever expect MLBTS to ever be as indepth as OOTP is, but I had hopes they would close the gap when the PS4 came out.
Im sure MLBTS18 will play a amazing game of baseball, I dont doubt that one bit, and while I do enjoy the pitcher vs batter realistic feel The Show gives you, Im a stats junkie, and love the management side a little more.

One impression is a drop in the bucket. Mine's coming tomorrow. Haven't missed one yet. 60.00 bucks is pretty cheap entertainment for a true Baseball fan.

Re: Anybody else still on the edge about buying?

yea... kind of getting tired of the whole... 'NEW animations! NEW improved hitting and physics!!! NEW glove and cleats!!!' jargon. If you watch previous trailers from the last 5 years, all the SELLING WORDS are practically the same. I get it, there ARE people out there excited for that much authenticity, I just don't think you should cater a whole 9 months developement to the 50 people that care about the stadium missing a sign, or the socks of a specific uniform being slightly off.

make the game accessible, make it fun... and I recognize that THERE ARE examples of that which they've implemented ie: quick counts, retro mode, 3 inning games etc... so I do see effort. BUT... fielding is still a snoozefest, hitting is still frustrating unless you're somebody that ONLY plays this game non stop. They should seriously implement a hitting reticle/pitching reticle option that ALL THE OTHER successful baseball games are using (because THEY'RE FUN).. mlb power pros, super mega baseball, that Japanese baseball game whatever its called.

anyway, tired of the 'under the hood' little improvements every year. mix it up. when the streams are long and boring... its a good sign the game will be too.

Re: Anybody else still on the edge about buying?

My decision is finally made! I am a "no buy" with the hope that MLB The Show 19 will be more satisfactory to me.

We've gone round and round about how disappointed we are about Franchise mode and how they removed Online Franchise instead of fixing it. But, the thing that tipped me over was people are now saying they removed Season Mode also. I don't care about that mode--I prefer Franchise mode--but I am not pleased there was no announcement about this while pre-ordering was going on. This strikes me as tremendously shady and something SDS should've addressed up front like they did about Online Franchise. I can't support this direction of theirs with my cash, sorry.

I encourage you all to vote yay or nay with your wallets as well.

Yep, I'm very pleased with my decision not to buy. I'll continue to get a lot of wear out of '17. I don't play season mode; however, the decision not to inform the people that they were removing this mode is incomprehensible. It's an extremely shady and deceitful thing to do and I'm not supporting them, in part, because of it. They have a lot of explaining to do about this.

I'm still grabbing it at 10am.
Love baseball and The Show too much.

With that said I am a bit disappointed they never mentioned taking out season mode.
I don't use it but that's not the point.

Decided to stick with 17. Played a game in my Franchise last night, 2nd year and honest can't be bothered transferring it over, losing half of the CAPS and having to redo them.

Might get it later in the year in a moment of weakness but I can put up with the slight issues in 17 and wait it out i think. If they revamp franchise I'll happily purchase but for some new menus, its not worth it.
