Honestly, I'm leaning towards a switch to OOTP and then buying this used in a couple of months. There are things that need to be improved and fixed in franchise mode that have been ignored for years now but I always gave the developers the benefit of the doubt because it's still an awesome game gameplay wise. However it's starting to look like they aren't going to do it unless there are financial hits. Although I know my not buying it new will virtually make no impact on this because most people still will.

Re: Anybody else still on the edge about buying?
it winds me up slightly when people come on here shouting about how awful the updates are and finish the sentence with "but i'll still buy it". If you want things to change talk with your dollars and stay away for a year. If sales fall then things will change.
Personally i might buy it a bit later in the year but will probably finish my current franchise and wait for next year.Comment

Re: Anybody else still on the edge about buying?
I'm never on the edge, buy it every year....period!
The game improves every year. Sure, sometimes it's minor improvements sometimes bigger ones.
But each year it improves and adds stuff, without taking anything out. (ok perhaps the player emotion got taken out of 17 compared to 16.)
As I continue to play it on and off throughout the year, a new improved version is - for me - a no brainer.Comment

Re: Anybody else still on the edge about buying?
I used to buy it every other year and then I bought it 3 years in a row. I'm playing 16 right now and I just got it last year sometime. I'm gonna skip 17 and maybe get 18 at the end of the summer, maybe. I just can't see myself spending money every year on sports games any more. I just don't see enough change from year to year to do that any more. Which is a shame really, because games used to make huge strides each year but, with the addition of things like DD and things like that game modes like frachise have suffered for it.Comment

Re: Anybody else still on the edge about buying?
I'm firmly in the "wait for sale" mode. IMO, $60 (or in my case, $80+ Canadian Rupees) is too much for this game. I mean, I can afford it, but I don't think SDS has done enough to earn it, and it's important to me to be a responsible consumer.
A lot of the things they said were improved in franchise I am kind of skeptical about. New retirement logic? Honestly, I haven't noticed anything egregiously wrong with it in recent years, and definitely not as bad as they made it out to be in the streams. It's sad, because in the past I trusted SDS, but this year has made me question their candor.
Even the best new feature, all the tweaks they made to tags and fielding, were shown off with extremely cherry picked situations. Maybe watching the dev tournament will show me the difference a little more, but I think I need to hear what OS has to say about this game in order to be convinced.
As a franchise player, I feel burned for putting my faith in SDS and defending them in the past. That, in itself, isn't the issue. I understand that not every year my mode of choice is going to get the attention, and even when it does it won't necessarily get the attention I want it to get. But I feel so consistently burned. The worst part is, SDS is going to look at their stupid data and be like: "people played even less Franchise this year, would should ignore the mode even more!" if I don't buy it and play. I feel stuck in a catch 22 here.
I'm way too committed to my year 2 year save to not buy 18 eventually, and I do feel once I get it I'll enjoy the improvements, but there is no way SDS is getting $80 from me for this years effort.Comment

Re: Anybody else still on the edge about buying?
This is the first time in ten years that I haven't pre-ordered the game, and it is unlikely that I will at all this year. I think 16 was the first year where I thought things were starting to get stale, and while 17 was a good game, it didn't suck me in until the season was over. I can live on roster updates for free instead of $60 for a brand new game.Rangers - Cowboys - Aggies - Stars - Mavericks

Even last year I had Brett Gardner retire after year one. He only just turned 34!Comment

Re: Anybody else still on the edge about buying?
My PlayStation 4 CD Drive has been acting up on me. It hasn't completely failed ... yet. But I am sure it's days are numbered. So because of this, I am kind of forced to buy the digital copies of games. But I don't mind the digital copies as I really only get peanuts when I attempt to trade games in.Comment

Re: Anybody else still on the edge about buying?
Really? Players retiring too early has been an issue for over a decade! Many of my franchises were ruined when guys like Jeter and A-Rod would retire at age 34 or 35. I think it was MLB 12 when after one season Jeter, A-Rod, David Ortiz all retired! It was ridiculous.

Back in 12 though yeah it was bad.

Re: Anybody else still on the edge about buying?
Definitely iffy about buying. Probably going to wait and get a used copy. I don’t see anything major that has been improved. Frankly I’m disappointed in the lack of progress over the past couple of years.Comment

Re: Anybody else still on the edge about buying?
I've been going back and forth, mainly due to OOTP giving me a great franchise game..
However in the end I am getting The Show because of that reason.
I'll play The Show for what it gives me.. a RTTS mode and a game where I can also do a franchise yet play the game (stick wise) when I want.
I'll be grabbing mine Friday morning after I'm done my physical therapy..Joshua:

Re: Anybody else still on the edge about buying?
The fact that I know and understand that The Show developers continue to work with what works and keep things simple is something I enjoy. Ever since I bought The Show ‘09 I have every game and with a PS4 Pro since last year there’s nothing to really think about I love baseball. I preordered yesterday at GameStop and will pick it up at 9pm tomorrow.
